... Because of the result he got from both sides he vowed never to gamble again because it almost ruined his relationship with his family. ..
What do you think would have prompted these people to return to gambling?
The question is, did he really quit, or was it just a temporary pause because he didn't have the bankroll to start again at the time?

I believe that when someone genuinely intends to stop, they will eventually stop regardless of the circumstances. Unless, of course, saying they will quit was just a bluff or something they said in the moment without any real intention of following through.
Otherwise, they'll probably end up doing it again, just like your friend who went back to gambling after saying he was going to stop.

Maybe back then he felt guilty using the family’s education money to gamble, so he decided to stop. But after he started making his own money, he can now gamble without feeling that kind of guilt.
In certain situations, it’s very possible for someone who has gambled to start gambling again because they remember how easy it was to make big money from it.

Your friend went back to gambling after a bad experience, he should come back gambling in a better way. Or maybe he’s still the same as before. You need to keep an eye on your friend.

What do you think would have prompted these people to return to gambling?

From what i’ve seen, every one of us who gambles has surely been in this situation, where the sudden urge to stop gambling arises, and we vow never to touch it again. We all do this when we’re in the midst of a losing streak, facing losses that may be too large for us to bear.

In the end, it’s just a promise or mere empty talk, because once we have money again, we’ll never remember that promise. However, when we lose again, we’ll curse our luck and promise once more never to gamble, that’s the pattern.

A friend of mine while we were growing up, made quite a terrible mistake with gambling. The money that was ment for his school fees, he used it to gamble and that really made his family lose interest in supporting anything that concerns his education.  Because of the result he got from both sides he vowed never to gamble again because it almost ruined his relationship with his family. Recently I met with this same old friend and he was still in the act of gambling.
He is definitely not the only one who has declared not to gamble again but still did it anyway, so my question is:
What do you think would have prompted these people to return to gambling?
Gambling is a great way to pass the time when a person is trying to get some moments lonely. It is not uncommon for someone who has gambled and then quits to return to gambling. The entertainment that comes from gambling is something that cannot be found anywhere else. Some people may become addicted when they cannot control themselves, but the excitement that comes from gambling is something that cannot be found anywhere else. Those who enjoy this excitement will definitely return to gambling again and again. I have seen many gamblers who have quit gambling and then return to gambling. Those who have not learned to enjoy gambling will never understand the pleasure of gambling.

I have heard such heartbreaking stories; it even happened to a friend from the office. He gambled away his mother's operation money and lost it all, and he could not recover later. He had to take a loan from the bank to treat his mother. I think if one does not have extra money, then he should not gamble, because the risk in gambling is much higher than the profit, so you should not deposit your hard-earned money here, or gamble with an amount that you can afford to lose. After the first loss in gambling, everyone vows to themselves that they will never come back to gambling. After losing a large amount for the first time in my gambling journey, I did not associate with gambling for many months, and I promised not to come back. But still, I gamble.

This thread is inspired by a true-life story:

A friend of mine while we were growing up, made quite a terrible mistake with gambling. The money that was ment for his school fees, he used it to gamble and that really made his family lose interest in supporting anything that concerns his education.  Because of the result he got from both sides he vowed never to gamble again because it almost ruined his relationship with his family. Recently I met with this same old friend and he was still in the act of gambling.
He is definitely not the only one who has declared not to gamble again but still did it anyway, so my question is:
What do you think would have prompted these people to return to gambling?
My personal experience was that I repeatedly promised not to gamble after losing at gambling and then broke it. A gambler repeatedly returns to gambling due to psychological pressure. That pressure could be from the pressure to recover money lost in previous gambling, from the pressure to make easy money, as part of a long-term effort to win the jackpot, or from addiction.

If you ask a person who smokes cigarettes regularly why you smoke, he may not be able to give a good answer for it, but after a while he will smoke another cigarette again and he will continue to do so regularly.

The world of gambling may seem very strange because most gamblers lose here but still most gamblers return to this platform because although it varies from gambler to gambler, it is a kind of psychological thing and also fun.

Maybe he met some few friends that later influenced him and changed his mind. If he was serious about changing his behaviour, he should have already by now left gambling and never came back. The situation was a very crucial one back then for his parents not to want to pay his school fees again after using the initial one to gamble. I feel your friend was truthful and actually left gambling but he later got influenced and return back to it. Since you guys having met for long and just saw recently again, there is a high chance that his new friends or the environment he stayed in made him go back to gambling. I just hope he hasn’t gotten so addicted that he can’t control it again. Using your school fees to gamble is way too much, he should have not done that, that shows a big sign of addiction.

The inability to accept defeat. That one will be difficult to move on from. When our brain keeps on telling us that we should go back because there might be a chance that we will win, it is possible to happen. I think this is the reason why a quitting gambler should always have something to keep him busy. Games, hobbies, or work. It must be something that he will enjoy to take his mind off gambling again.

That's what I did because I also couldn't stop thinking about the losses I received from slots. It made me go back many times, but there was a time when I told myself, "No more!" I will just use my money for something good or just save it. I also told myself that it would be like a charity that I donated to on that gambling site. It made me feel better.

I’ve been in your friend’s position before. I stopped gambling because of an addiction that caused some problems. I lost a lot, but I’m grateful to have a good family.
I started gambling again under close supervision from my family, with a set budget and gambling schedule. Even though I can do everything freely now, the habits from those limits I kept for quite a long time have stuck with me until now.
I’m not entirely sure why I started gambling again, but I just can’t completely stop at the moment. My family often reminds me, which sometimes sounds like a threat, but it’s actually a good alarm for me.

It depends on whether, when they start gambling again, they can manage their money responsibly or whether they continue gambling recklessly with whatever money they have.

If someone has promised not to gamble again but eventually returns to gambling while still having self control and being more responsible, I believe they are mainly doing it just to pass the time. But if they return to gambling and continue betting with money that should not be used for gambling, then they may have a gambling problem.

Once you've been addicted to gambling then you've been able to face up those consequences and made out some promise that you wont be doing gambling again but it turned out that you've been still exposed into it then most likely that promise would really be broken on which you will definitely be playing once again and actually its really hard to stop yourself on that urge on doing that at the moment that you've been that exposed to it and thats why its really that important to have that discipline and control when it comes into this aspect. If you dont really mean up on quitting then you would just coming back not unless if you do lose up everything literally on which you dont have anymore money to spend on gambling then thats the time you would definitely stop.

I feel there are gamblers that can never stop gambling no matter what promises they’ve made to their family members, even no matter what have happened with them with gambling, I have my own experience with gambling as well, sometime last year, I personally told myself I was going to quite gambling, I tried staying away from gambling for some few months, but I had to get back to gambling, because is something I see as entertainment.

The same story that you just gave us, I have had a similar experience with gambling, back in 2010 when I was living with my parents, I was asked to buy some groceries, but I stupidly had to get into a betting shop and start using the money I was asked to buy some groceries for gambling games, I won and made some profits, unfortunately for me greed had to set in, instead of me going with my profits I had to continue gambling, and I lost everything, all the money was lost, there was nothing I could do but to go back home, it was a very terrible day for me.

I have rarely seen those who become addicted to gambling completely quit gambling. If they are in a really bad financial situation at some point, they may stop betting for a few days or a year. But later they come back. Many people may not become addicted at that time. They bet responsibly but they do not quit betting. Because the excitement they feel while betting is not possible to get this kind of feeling in any other activity. However, I have also seen those who were addicted once and were able to get out of it with difficulty. But later they went back to betting just for a few days just to pass the time temporarily. But later I saw that the person was addicted again as before. And the loss was more than before. But he keeps making the same mistakes again and again. Behind this, excessive greed and the mentality of becoming a rich person overnight are more impactful . betting should be done responsibly from the beginning. If at any time a gambler feels that he is not able to control his emotions, then he should stop gambling.

Usually, it’s winning that drives someone to keep playing. I used to be a very active gambler myself you could even say I was quite addicted and often, when I wanted to quit because I was so fed up with being in debt, I’d end up gambling again when I remembered the wins I’d had before, or perhaps because I was influenced by seeing other people win.

From this, we can conclude that a proper understanding of how the game works in producing results is very important, because that way you won’t assume that past results will repeat themselves in the future.

A genuine quitter will not definitely returned to gambling, some are only taking a break without knowing that they will definitely come back to gambling after the reason why they left has been settled, you cannot be gambling and enjoying having fun and all of a sudden determined to leave, I have seen several people deciding to create gambling all because the turn to the problematic gamblers, this is where the first question we should ask on this regard is how responsible are you with your gambling behavior.

I can't say what really made your friend to start gambling again after having such bad experience in the past. I believe, he's in the right position to tell you why he started gambling or didn't you ask him.

People can go back to their vomit because of the pleasure they get from it. I believe, that your friend didn't quit gambling, he only went on a long break just like what some of us do.

As a child, I loved reading Fenimore Cooper's books about the adventures of Hawkeye. In "The Prairie," this frontiersman demonstrated how to stop prairie fires. A backfire is needed to burn dry grass to the ground. Once firebreak , it can no longer burn.🙋

In this situation, the gambler didn't burn the source of the fire to the ground. Yes, he took a break from gambling (driven by an acute sense of shame). However, his gambling addiction didn't go away. When the memories of this situation began to fade, the gambling addiction returned.🤷

Unfortunately, for a gambling addict, a small trigger is enough to return to gambling. This is exactly what happened in this situation. Here, in my opinion, it's important to understand that gambling addiction results from a physical restructuring of the human brain (completely new, stable synaptic connections appear in the brain).  Breaking them is not easy, but it is absolutely necessary to get rid of gambling addiction once and for all.💫

Straight to the question. There are different factors that can make a former gambler to return but there is one common one which happens to everyone quited gamblers. And that should be partial winning. Once or twi winning in gambling can make them to come back because they believed that since they have won before the can win big one day to recover their losses.

And another thing is the winning of peer group and friends. If someone close to them wins big then it would motivate them to come back again to gamble to see if they can also wins. This has been discussed before.

He is definitely not the only one who has declared not to gamble again but still did it anyway, so my question is:
What do you think would have prompted these people to return to gambling?
Stories like this are very common and even some of my friends have experienced it, including myself. The only difference is whether they return with the same mindset or not.

I have a friend who used to gamble and you could say it was extreme he lost a lot, even selling some of his vehicles to gamble. After losing everything, he realized it and promised not to touch gambling again. But that didn’t last long because the environment also had an influence and eventually, he gambled again. But this time, it was different unlike before when he gambled uncontrollably and excessively now he gambles with good control.

What I mean is, actually there's nothing wrong when someone has stopped gambling and then suddenly they want to gamble again, but with a different mindset. What's wrong is if they used to gamble badly and when they gamble again, they do it the same way that's what should be avoided. I used to promise myself not to gamble anymore but since I'm also a soccer fan, I ended up gambling again but this time with good control.

Gamblers can find it hard to quit even after an awful experience because gambling activities has more to do with psychology and emotions than it has to do with the amount one losses.
Most people enjoy risk and I think gambling gives them the kind of risk experience they want that stimulates their minds and can make them forget their problems even for a slight moment.
