I've been into sales before and I've sold some packs of my products to my family and relatives. They never complained, I just offered it without that much talk and see if they're interested in it. It's a household product and fortunately, they took that product and bought it. I was happy like a kid who's been supported for his toys but it's really hard to find these people that will support you in what you're doing like the promotion or selling of products that needed to be consumed. I myself have consumed those products that I've sold in the past to know how it actually works and how effective it is, you don't get to market it to your prospect buyers if you know nothing and experienced nothing about it.

I will speak for myself on this, I don't promote things that are going to be harmful to others, I see a lot of people promoting or advertising products that don't really do what they say they do and as a matter of fact they end up hurting them. If it is not legit then I am not going to promote it because it is actually wrong to sell this to other people because they are not your family members, this shows that you don't really have integrity. Whatever you are promoting to others is something you should be able to recommend your family members.

A business can create value when many people need it.

I prefer a win win relationship with my customer / buyer, my customer must get demanded quality product based on their request and what we promised and i get income, my supplier get market, my business get revenue, i get income and community get economic circulation. I like build wealth with nearest community first  not only within my community, its form of support to our neighborhood especially buy from small grocery store near our house. Our small purchases could become their meal today. Buy from local producer when price and quality competitive will have larger social impact than what we spend because actualy we maintain retaining revenue streams. Its also form of solidarity,no need to fo charity just through daily economy activities.

Whatever products I'm promoting,I will definitely recommend it for my family and friends,and I and my family are going to use it also , I'm always surprised to see many people don't use there product ,why producing what you can't use, something that is bad all because you want profit or probably for your selfish reason,one need to be selfless in business,in as much as you want profit ,but it's best to produce something that is worth it and won't be harmful to your comstomers and society at large ,it's better to be selfless in business than being selfish.

If I cannot recommend it to my family then it means that others should not also get to know about it, most times we don't get to think about the damage something can cause when it doesn't affect us directly, we assume that others can cope with it even though it is not really good for them. I think this has a lot to do with integrity, a lot of people that Market products online know very well that what they promote is harmful but they still go ahead to promote it because it doesn't affect them.

Some might say, it is all about business and making money, well, you cannot make money at the expense of others, this doesn't really tell well of your integrity. If you want to promote something make sure that you can give a 99 percent assurance that it works.

I will try the product myself first and if I think it is good, I will tell other people around me about it. A review can influence their judgment when they are looking to buy a similar product. Personally before I buy something, I usually ask my friends what the best product with a certain budget and they do the same when they are looking for a product so recommending a good product can be beneficial to other people.

While the selfish reasons are by people who go into business mostly to earn a living, make money or benefit themselves, these are less likely to consider the quality of their products/services, unless compelled by the law. The drive to make money for personal gain makes them to ignore quality and serve their customers slow killing poisons. Afterall customers wellbeing isn't their top priority.

Creating a product without thinking about your consumers is not a good strategy for the long term. Consumers might buy your product because it is cheap but if the quality is not good you won't get loyal customers and they may not continue using your product in the long term because there's no real effect from it.

I should; the service or product provider should be the first quality control or user of their product. If they don't believe what they are selling or promoting, they should shut down.

Honestly is important in sales, that's what I've learned and it's not only about selling something to them and leaving them behind. One time sales isn't no good but repeat customers is the better idea and we'll only get that once we've been trusted and the customers saw that we're true to our words. Not just all about getting the sales on that day but proving them that the quality of what we've been selling and what we're telling them is real. While in those things you've mentioned like getting the supplier and other staff, I'd prefer to be the simple salesman that would only care for my task.

Don't look at it that simply. Business is much more complicated than that, and as some members have already pointed out, every product is aimed at a specific type of customer.
A product can be very useful to you but not suitable for someone else, or the other way around. So, a business owner not using their own product doesn't mean the product is low quality or harmful.

I'm in business to make money, make a living - call that "selfish" and that's fine. Making profit and providing value are not mutually exclusive, they are exactly the same objective. I fail by cutting corners, sell junk, mistreating people and I lose reputation, lose repeat customers and go out of business. Looking out for my customers is not saint-like self-sacrifice, it's basic long-term self-interest.

And as for using the "loved ones" test to prove whether someone is ethical? It breaks down fast depending on what you actually sell.

That is the thing that people do not understand. Yes, the rich people are not ethical, but they are not stupid either. Maybe Nestle gets water from people who need it and sells it to you; that is unethical, but they do provide great water to you. They are not doing it to the customer. For example, I am not selling a product, but I am selling my services. I work for what I do, and if anyone I love ever needed my services, I would be happy to do it for them, and sometimes even do. I did the translation of a whole book for a friend of mine, and free of charge as well.

This was maybe like 10 years ago; I wasn't even as good as I am today, so if I had to do it today, I would be able to do an even better job without a doubt. So yeah, if I were in business, customers should be happy, because happy customers mean more customers, and more customers mean more sales and more sales mean more money. It depends on the context we are looking at because in most cases, the only reason why you might sell a product that's legal and not consume it is probably because it's not your thing and to an extent, most legal product that are armful are so because users tend to abuse it.

For instance, if you owns a pharmacy, it's most likely that people will buy a lot of drugs that is harmful to Thier health. They already know it's going to harm them in the long run and you also know that also. But with that, you will still sell it because if used in the right proportion, it won't harm them. Does that make you a bad person for the choices people make? Our conscience is big enough to tell us when to stop or continue at a certain thing and in general, if you're doing a business that doesn't sit well with your moral believe, it's only best to quite or shift into something else.

I get your message OP about people going into business for two reasons which are selfless and selfish but I don't quite get how people get into business the good of others. It's true money or profit might not be their priority but I wouldn't say it's for the good of others. They may not be as selfish as the other category but they also want their business to grow and don't run a charity to help out others. These are the best category of business people who are likely impressed by their customers and win the trust of customers than those who are driven by profit.

Not promoting what you sell and recommending them to your loved ones could mean you don't trust the goods or maybe you are selfish and think your loved ones will only want them on credit. I won't sell what I can't consume or recommend for my loved ones or use myself, I think it's selfish and bad to sell things you don't trust yourself

This is more of a very good test of someone’s integrity in business if I am selling or promoting something I should be confident enough to recommend it to others being it people who are care about or not. I don’t have to use the product personally if it is not meant for me to use. But what I am supposed to do as a good business person is make sure the product delivers what I am telling my customers it can deliver, the moment it fails to pass through such integrity test, it means I have failed as a good business person. And I honestly understand why these things happen. The problem begins when someone promotes a product they personally would not buy, use or recommend simply because they want to earn from the commission it generates. We have seen such things happen several times with celebrities and influencers selling all kinds of products they would not use themselves because they want to make the money and end up selling bad products to their fans and loyalists.

There are lots of reasons why people don't use the products that they sell and the most common reason is that they know the product doesn't work and In most cases it probably has hazard effects on health but they comfortably sell it out to others, this is the highest level of wickedness.

Well to me the kind of business you do determine if you are selfish or selfless. There are businesses you do you automatically become selfish like selling of hard drugs, alcohol, indian hemp or any item capable of destroying human life that you don't take
 This is an example of selfish business, because you don't care about their welfare or health but only money. In this business, no matter how caring and selfless you are, provided you do any of this listed business then you are automatically a selfish person. Then a person that sell consumable items that is not harmful is automatically a selfless person because he is selling things that are not harmful to the human body even though the person is selfish in character, that is how I see it.

I see no reason why I won’t be able to consume what am selling, or whatever am advertising. If am not consuming what am selling, then it should be because I don’t like it, or it’s not something that I can consume, but am not going to sell or advertise what I know I can’t consume because it’s harmful. How will you be happy spending money when you know you have harmed someone, it doesn’t make sense, I will rather not sell the thing instead of selling what’s going to harm people.

Some people are just so desperate to make money, and they don’t even care if they are going to harm anyone just because they want to make the money. If you are looking for money, then make sure you just do it legally, and you don’t have to endanger others because you want to make money.

It's just like those influencers who go around to preach about fake products even advertising scam platforms, I have seen some celebrity doing that. Sometimes I wonder if they even care about Thier reputation, I know some might be doing it due to ignorant but even at that I can't take it as an excuse because a person is supposed to be fully aware about what they are advertising and / or promoting more especially a celebrity. So anyone who is selling a product or promoting a site need to ensure that they are promoting something that is legit.
