How many soccer leagues are there and why do we need so many threads?

Just looking at the 1st page of this section and counted 21 threads dealing with soccer alone. That's just what I counted on the 1st page, imagine if i went counting a few more pages. All of these 21 threads are not different leagues, but more then 12 are. Kinda insane.

1. How many soccer leagues are there? (did a google search and found 191 professional leagues)
2. Is there no way to combine some threads so this section isn't so messy?

Seems a bit crazy to me that we have a separate thread for every single soccer league but I am not 1 that watches the sport so I am curious mostly about the ability to combine some of these threads into 1? 191 leagues means there could be at least 191 threads if someone created 1 for each league, then add on possible gambling threads about these leagues, and duplicates as people just don't pay attention to if there is already a thread on a subject.

I pretty much agree with your point that having so many soccer thread on first page makes this board look cluttered. However, it is not necessarily true that there must be 191 threads if there are 191 professional leagues. This is because not all leagues have the same level of interest on Bitcointalk. In my opinion, better solution would be to have dedicated threads for major/popular leagues such as EPL, La Liga, UCL. And keep low-interest leagues and minor competition in a broader International/Other Football Discussion thread. Duplicate threads for same league or multiple threads for same season should definitely be avoided.

If we merge everything into one thread, it will be difficult to find useful analysis again.

Even amongst the 21 leagues thread, barely about 10 of them are very active with discussions daily which shows people watch them the most than the rest. I only comment on the league I watch and have an understanding of the game there while I don’t comment on the other ones.

As long as there is no two different thread for one league, there is no way two threads can be merged as one when the league is different. It will not allow for the order flow of the conversation there. Maintaining one thread for each league is the best and for every new season that’s starting, the conversations should go on there without a user creating another new thread for the new season.

If EPL, FA and EFL Cup can all be under England, and other countries to be having their own single threads, it might later lead to more people from different countries posting their own professional leagues.

The professional leagues that you are referring to are in up to 135 countries. But most of them are not discussed on this forum.

If we combine some league together it is going to be more messy and it will be very difficult to identify spam.
It's not possible to combine English premier League and La Liga in one thread because it is going to confuse people, this two league are different even though it's football, the clubs are different and players are also different, so talking about what is happening in English premier League in the same thread that others are talking about what is happening in La Liga will make things more complicated.

Even if we decide to put EPL, FA and EFL cup on one thread it will be confusing, let say for example Manchester United and Arsenal meet and play in FA and i talk about it in that thread a lot of people not following the FA cup may be confuse. You need to understand not everyone follow all competition.
The way it is is okay and the best, combining different thread will cause a lot of harm.

Putting all the football leagues in one thread means making extreme messes! Just think if Arsenal vs Man City title race pressure tactics, Real Madrid-Barcelona El Clasico debates and minor league betting odds were all posted in one thread on the same day then it would be impossible to keep track of who was replying to whom.

With a separate thread, fans or bettor of a particular league can go directly to their desired place to discuss.

Creating a huge Megathread will drown out the original analyzes in flood of notifications and random comment.

I'm also against Premier League having a prediction thread and another discussions thread, maybe the merging should start from that one.

Continental football discussions can stay, same with major Leagues like EPL, Bundesliga, Ligue1, Italian League and Laliga, Europa and UCL. Others should be provided a gambling section in their own LB or moved to a separate board called other leagues.

Based on what OP said, out of the 21 threads about soccer leagues that e counted, only about 13 was of a different leagues meanjng the rest threads are repeating original original threads. I agree with you that two different leagues can not be merged in the same thread since it can cause confusion but some members can stop opening a new thread about a league when their is already an existing topic about that league.

What if they do not have a local board? I do not think this kind of restriction should be granted. But I am in support of those premier league for England to be merged into one. No need to even merge them, moderators can just lock them and leave only one which is enough. But nothing has been done about it since the case was reported months ago.

Not at all! Football is number 1 sport in the world, so this game has the highest engagement on our forum. You know, football holds a large portion of betting sports in Bitcoin and crypto space forums. In fact some spam thread have been created due to duplicate threads and our laziness. Those can be deleted or merged by forum moderator. But having a separate thread for major leagues isn't a problem, it's just a necessity for navigation.

It may seem like an overlap because you don't watch football. But if you think about it from the fans point of view then this split is most logical!

In general, the recent trend of everyone taking up the task of improving the gambling section is alarming   There are a lot of things I don't like, but at least there's no need to break what works. After all, if users can create threads and keep them active, then why bother them?

Some members want their country's league to be discussed on the forum even when they are not popular. There are some Leagues that have very low contributions because they are not well known. Merging these threads would make it complex since there will be difficult to follow-up discussions. My suggestion is that every country should be limited to one thread. The UEFA Champions League and other European Champions should also have their threads.

You might need to re read what I wrote. I said there are 21 threads on page 1 talking about soccer, that's just page 1 of this section. There are probably another 30-50 threads on soccer on the following few pages.

I don't visit any of the threads as I do not watch the sport, I am just commenting on how this section looks really. We almost need a sub board for the soccer stuff TBH. It's a bit overwhelming.

Fusing some of the thread into one is good and most specifically those threads that are coming from one league. Like the world Cup, the premier League and other related threads. But the casino sponsored, regional and country threads shall be separated. And if it is possible there shall be a bylaw (rule) pin on the board. I think the main thing here is the rule. And let the rule clearly stated that each Soccer League most have one thread and duplicating thread is prohibited.

To combine as a whole in one thread is difficult but it would be better if we had at least 1 do not need as many threads for one same discussion (same league) as threads in 5 domestic competitions, and 3 threads for Combined Competitions (Champions League, Europa League and Conference league).
But sometimes there is always a new thread even though the old thread still exists as it exists today where there are 2 threads for EPL that are currently active even though they both discuss almost the same thing.

On the other hand I think for the major leagues it can be one of the things that can be discussed but for the minor leagues it is even though there are always enthusiasts especially for one or a few countries that like it but it should be minimized.

That is where it will become more messy because imagine when people are discussing about different leagues in a single thread, it will even lead to spam because there will be many discussions of what had already been discussed.

Soccer comprises of many leagues, it will be orderly for each to have a separate thread just like you've seen. Though there are some particular leagues that have different threads that are created, those are the ones we should ask the moderators to luck some of them if not all and leave only one thread for that league.

Actual problem is not the number of leagues. You know main problem is, most of these thread end up being low effort tip sharing & signature spam instead of actual discussion. Major leagues like Premier League, Champions League, La Liga must have their place. Because the betting volume and depth of analysis of these leagues are completely different compared to random third tier league.

A practical middle ground, in my opinion, would be to create sticky Minor Leagues & Other Competition thread for all leagues and competitions outside the top 8 to 10.

And old megathreads can be locked after a season ends, this will make the board usable.

Well... maybe that would be a solution, but first we need to understand where the problem came from. I don't go these threads either (I have no idea about any Paraguayan/Romanian/Uzbek leagues and don't want to find out) and I could be wrong, but I have a strong feeling that the explosion of these threads occurred, in part, because many were accused of posting in megathreads... i.e., we return to the fact that due to attempts to improve the gambling section, we have received a new problem   Should we continue this cycle? Maybe things will settle down on their own.

This is gambling section, people gamble on different leagues. While you gamble and find major leagues discussion important there are those who loves discussion about the minor leagues and those are the leagues they gamble on and also like discussing about them. I agree with you about a league not having a discussion thread and a prediction thread concurrently because both can work in one dedicated thread.

I object to each local board creating a gambling sub-board for gambling discussions of their country, it doesn't make any sense to me except they want the discussion to be done in their own language and not English.
