The board has grown in population exponentially and many things have happened since then, so imo there is no point referencing the old thread. What matters is what we do choose to do now. I was one of those who voted for a mixed language lb but recent events have made me change my opinion on the issue.

Events? I could only remember one and besides posting here in English doesn't automatically turn anyone into a Nigerian. We've had many foreigners come here and contribute to discussion positively and earned some merits. This is normal on a forum.

In my opinion, I don't think that's enough to change things and 58 voters from 100+ active members isn't enough either. We'd have a better one, get the OGs involved when the time is right.

I think it was created when we have not been given local board, but the Nigerian local thread was so much active at the time.

CryptopreneurBrainboss and some people said they needed Pidgin, Brainboss told me through a call at the time that both English and Pidgin will be allowed once we have local board, but that theymos may not give us local board if we do not have a local language. I told him that theymos will give us the local board. I am just glad that I did not listen to Brainboss at the time and we have the local board already. I believe Brainboss will also be happy now that I did not listen because some people that did not know him are supporting Pidgin now, when I think he may now be supporting both.

Which means you are implying that those that voted that time did not know what they voted for? Why not tell the senate to change our constitutions to be written in pidgin? Or tell them to make pidgin to be used to teach people in school? Or tell the bank to allow their employees to use pidgin? Or they should change the default ATMs language from English to pidgin? Or tell the people on the largest forum in Nigeria (Nairaland) to be using pidgin to post.

Na wey people dey agitate for strictly pigeon to be used on the local board some people no dey reason an from the way we dey reason an, and even the mod himself no agree see reason for weting we yan. As for me, anything wey them decide I mount like mountain, even if then say make we start to yan for hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba for the local board men go still run an, at least I fit yan for Igbo and hausa.

Even if a law has been made concerning this before, and there comes a consign and a good reason for it to be amended, it should be amended.

If we cannot amend the laws that have been made in this local board, then we are in a big mess.
What may seem right and very okay today may not be right and okay in the future and this is one of the reasons why the Nigeria laws can be amended.

Right now we have seen that using English in the local board is causing some problems and is trying to mess up the integrity of the Nigeria people, what we should do is to talk about possible ways to amend the rules, and right now using only pidgin is the only solution.

Some of those people way they talk say make we Dey use English no be Nigeria people, if you check there account them never speak pidgin before.
Anybody way say en no sabi how to write for pidgin na big lier.

I didn’t say it’s enough, that’s why the thread is still open and I haven’t made reference to the poll yet. It’s a simple thing really, it’s either we want it or we don’t it. Do you mind telling us “when the time is right” will be? I don’t see why the OGs can’t be tagged in this thread.

Okay. The link you provided isn't the main one - I think it was on the old local board thread not a topic or something.

Our fear at the time was theymos would not give us a local board of we continued using English but little did we know that local boards are created based on several factors and not just language alone. It's a "community" for people with common cultural values.

First we wanted it to be "African" local board but decided to narrow it down since the active members then were only Nigerians.

Because you'd need at least 80-90% of active members to cast a vote and that's not easy to achieve in a short period of time now that we have 100+

+ You still need to provide a system to reduce alt votes. Not going to be as easy as it was 5-6 years ago.

That’s true. I’ve thought about the alts as well. What I think we can do is wait till we get 80% votes, we can ask voters to make a public vote so we know exactly who voted for what. Still, I don’t believe it’s something that should take more than a few months to achieve.

If only valid votes are counted, local board will not have up to that. They are alts and I believe they are doing a meeting about it somewhere which is not on this forum like a secret cult. I am not saying they are cultists but I use it as an example.

Silly idea but I totally support both, what about people that want to be anonymous. After some of you have done your meeting, what if some accepted what you said in your meetings for only pidgin but decided to vote for both english and pidgin?

This is out of context, we're trying to get a solution that would prevent foreigners from hiding under this local bard and bring bad names to us all, it is never about changing the Lingua franca. I voted for pidgin only because I see the damages and it would only get worse with time.

We need 2/3 of the community votes should do that, from a democratic standpoint, that is what it takes to implement a change. We need 66% votes and not 80-90%.

This is very hard to achieve, there's no reliable means of identifying alt accounts that is in existence. The address connection still contains false positives.

I have said this before, just because someone makes his or her post in pidgin doesn't automatically makes them a Nigerian. Pidgin cannot stop others from coming to our local board from hiding their identity, it can only make things a little bit difficult for them. There are still some reputable members in this forum that comes to our local board from time to time, they give out merit to good posts and they also contribute.

Omo make nobody come force person to do watin them no won do.
If you're okay posting in pidgin then go ahead with it, I'm simply more comfortable expressing myself in English and that should not be a problem for anyone.
Besides, someone who is very determined to hide their identity will make use of translator to communicate in other language.

There are not many people involved, if you want to talk to me, talk to me directly and stop bitting around the bush. I'm not against the use of English and pidgin on the local board, I'm not just comfortable with the way foreigners are coming to the local board to hide, and whenever they break forum rules or cheat, they are assumed to be Nigerians. I just want the local board to be cleaned up, and it is for the betterment of all us.

As for mod, what I want from him is to acknowledge the main issue, which he has yet to acknowledge.  It is not as if that we who are truly Nigerians don't know one another, including those who live abroad. Anyone who is from another country and wants to be a member of our local board should indicate that, so that when they commit crime Nigerians won't bear the bad name.

I'm a Nigerian and I know my follower Nigerians too well, although I can't deny the fact that Nigerians don't cheat or break forum rules. But, believe it or not, most of the offenses being committed by members of this local board (naija) are not by Nigerians but by foreigners. You can also argue that if you want, but those of us who are Nigerians on the forum know ourselves, include those who have decided not to identify with Nigeria.

See karl_3000, I don't say things because I want to comment or contribute like others I speak based on facts, if they decided to allow the use of English and pidgin on the local board back then, that's doesn't mean it can't be amended, because written constitution can be amended how much an unwritten custitution.

Note, I'm not against the use of both pidgin and English on the local board, I am against those foreigners who are coming to the local board to hide or for whatever reason, even if they want to become members they should clearly state that they're not Nigerians but they want to participate in the Nigeria local board by doing this, the equation will be balanced.

If we wan do this vote among ourselves, e go really dey hard because some people here wey no be Nigerian citizens go also vote, and make we also know say dem no go vote for something wey go affect dem for the local board for future.

From my own idea, one of the easy ways wey I believe say fit work na to invite at least 150 real members of this local board, especially those wey dey before the local board (OG's) and few other pipo wey we know say dem be our local board members, and rank go be hero member and above, to vote on the language wey dem believe for the betterment of the local board.

Anyway, I done talk am before; as we don try this pattern and things dey like this, make we also try the strictly pidgin for at least 1 full year to see how the things go be and if e good way stick to am; but if e no work out well, we switch over to the current pattern we dey use. I just believe say there's no harm in trying, and if we no try new things, we no go fit make progress and also learn.

I am not defending them but they can look for other ways to do it, not in a way they will not allow english which everyone of us know the best. Pidgin is not forced anywhere in Nigeria.

I do not really know how to post pidgin and some people are not good in posting it, this only look like they want to force something they have not done before on them including me.

If they like or hate there will be other ways these people will earn merits.

Since it's community voting, we can deploy the same voting pattern used for the 2025 Bitcoin carving contests, where the moderator can ask for the admin's help to forfeit the vote of members who might be coming from the same IP. It might not be much, but from the admin end, it’s easier to get. better data compared to where you ask anyone who voted to announce it in form of comment.
