The problem with pidgin is that there is no formal way of writing it. If I speak proper Port Harcourt pidgin English, many people will not understand what I am saying. Warri or Benin Pidgin is also different. Many Nigerians don't reside in areas that speak pidgin. Some of my relatives in some parts of Nigeria struggle to speak pidgin.

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater There was an issue with a stranger who claimed to be part of us, and we are agitating to change our language rules. Let us consider those who don't understand or cannot write pidgin. Do we want to chase them out of the local board because they were unfortunate not to live in areas where pidgin is popular?

Quick fix;

For those who want only Pidgin speakers in their threads/topics, you can indicate it in the OP, report anyone breaking your topic rules if that'd help so we don't keep having this conversation ( local rules allowed this)

This suggestion is okay. If people see that these rules are becoming popular, they would be forced to learn pidgin English. Those who are not knowledgeable about Pidgin should be allowed learning if they are interested.

No need for all these neutral tags because everyone is entitled to their opinions. Based on their observations, they assume that you are not a Nigerian. I have also had such doubts because of your reactions. Nigerians should have a brotherly spirit, but you are quick to escalate matters.

There is not a single Nigerian who I've heard call buka, "bukateria". Not one. That is not a Nigerian pidgin. I've been to at least 12 to 15 Nigerian states in 4 geopolitical zones of the country, and I've never heard Bukateria. Even the cafeteria, they don't say it that much, they say restaurant or just fast food. Buka, mama put, restaurant, fast food restaurant, or just fast food are the words I know. Bukateria might just be slang for your particular area or among your friends, but bukateria is not a Nigerian pidgin word.

Bukka is the word everybody knows, not "bukateria'. Even you have never heard the word Bukateria used in Nigerian pidgin. Words meaning different things in different places is a normal thing. there are English words that mean different things in the US and in the UK. But this particular "Bukateria" is not in Nigerian Pidgin. It can be a street or school slang where he is, but it's not Nigerian pidgin.

And this does not make him not Nigerian, nor does it make him Nigerian. I couldn't care less if he was Nigerian or not. It has no relevance whatsoever.

But you have known about it today. Bukka, Buka, Bukateria are all the same thing. Naija Deltans need to travel more than staying insider their state, mostly those of you living in River States that want pidgin by force.

Go and ask your dad or grandpa that have travelled a lot about bukateria, they will explain it better to you. There are things that gen z in PH can not know. I'm just observing this debate since and trying not to get emotional as Many posts I'm seeing here already. Is there anything wrong in self determination? Why is it that each time they raise this issue of making pigin language the major language in local board, some selected few  will stand  and give many reasons why pigin language should not be enforced in our local board. But just like I have quoted earlier, during the history for the creation of this local board as documented by hatchy, can anyone of the older members explain this part better...

This has been my debate point. We have a history and we shouldn't just throw it all away. Even though I understand that Many people who are Nigerians may not be fluent in pigin, but when a Nigerian who's not fluent in pigin speaks, everyone will understand that yes, he's a Nigerian but not very fluent in pigin. We are supposed to have an identity and I have never seen any Nigerian spend all his life fighting the pigin language (since childhood).

If you are not fluent in pigin, you can still adapt and manage and we all will understand. The problem is, if you're not a Nigerian that you go into using Ai translators for your pigin, we will also know.

Saying that all those supporting pigin are only those from Niger Delta is only misleading because me that created this thread is not from the Niger Delta. I may not be as fluent as the Niger Deltans but I know that Pigin is what Nigeria is known with everywhere in the world.

Again, is it mandatory for everyone to be part of a local board? If yes, is it also mandatory to post in the local board? I guess No! So why should this be a problem? If you can't manage with the pigin language, then you can stay off or you can just speak the much you can and of course, just like English boards where we also see many grammatical errors, we can also contend with that here.

My suggestion remains that, even if pigin is not made the only language for the local board, it should receive the support it deserves instead of making it look like supporting pigin is a crime.

I didn't use pigin for this post, not because I can't use pigin, but of course English is easier to write but I still support only pigin with my full chest. I have raised it before and I will always raise it again, it is not wrong to support pigin for our local board.
