It will be a lie if I said that all gamblers are gambling to have some fun, most gamblers want to make money from gambling atleast, now if you manage to win $300,000 from online gambling, fully paid, is this enough for you to stop gambling?

Someone I don't know was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and he said he once won 300k and gambling took everything back, he did alot with the money, build a house and start a farming business.

Slowly he started losing everything back to gambling and it was all because he failed to take his eye off gambling, a big mistake that cost him everything, but then I am thinking, isn't 300k big enough to walk away completely?

Additional, 300k is a lot of money in my country, enough to make one life like a king.

No, I am not gambling because I want to make money from it.

Someone I don't know was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and he said he once won 300k and gambling took everything back, he did alot with the money, build a house and start a farming business.
I do not use more than $10 to gamble every week. If I win $300000 with just as little as $10, I will withdraw all immediately without thinking twice. I will gamble again next week or after two weeks.

But I think I also gamble because I am on this forum. If I am not really active on this forum anymore, I may stop gambling or at least reduce it further.

That’s the same reason why they will not stop even when they win a large sum of money, but the fun and the desire to win more will keep the gambler hooked on gambling; even if their activities are checked for responsible gambling, they will still have to gamble.

The player has done well by using the money to settle some of his pressing needs, build a house and open a business, and that money put in that place won’t be all of what was won from gambling; his mistake was to still slow what has been invested to be used for gambling. Before that winning he was already earning something from which money used for gambling comes out of that place.

Assuming he kept to his normal gambling schedule and budget, there is no time he will fall into using his business money to gamble, but the same thing that usually happens to jackpot winners becomes his problem: an increase in wager size and being too eager to win the same amount or even higher.

Every gambler has their own level of satisfaction, so we really cannot give a fixed amount, but for me maybe $1k is already enough and I can walk away with that.

However, here's the trick, most gamblers don't really set a target before they gamble, like how much they want to win or how much they are willing to lose before stopping, and that's one reason why sometimes we become emotional and greedy.

Additional, 300k is a lot of money in my country, enough to make one life like a king.

That's the thing, to you that money is big and enough for you but then the gambler either he has his eyes set on something bigger or greed is just a factor at play here. This is why you always advised to define each gambling session before you start so when you reach your limit for the day, your discipline will force you to call quits for the day but without a defined gambling session, i can promise you, you will just be going till all your money finishes. One time i know for sure is the longer you play, the greater the chance for the house to win it all back from you so always define your gambling limits and expectations before you start.

We do know that human being doesnt have that contentment about money on which we would be thinking that we will be able to do it again. Once you managed to make $300k then you would be thinking that you can even have more on betting or gambling even more and this is where most gamblers will definitely be doing and we do know about reality that we will aim for more. Now in the talks about winning 300k then i will definitely stop and will be securing out that profits into put up into investments but of course i can buy a house and a car then the rest will really be saved up and also to be making some physical business. 300k might not be much into those first world countries but if you do live on a 3rd world then you would definitely be able to live up without needing on having a job for you to live or survive on day to day.

When you say you can walk away, do you mean stop gambling for a time being or for a lifetime? Because $1k can be a target for one to reach either a year or a month, and when it’s achieved, the person can stop for the main time, but for lifetime settlements, I don’t think that amount is enough. I know no money is too much because of human greed, but $1k, on the other hand, is also very little.

I might not completely stop gambling but I am not also going to lose all that money back to the casino because I have self control and I would invest the money wisely such that I could still make more profit would likely be using just the profits I made to gamble. Someone that is gambling strictly for the purpose of earning money might likely lose back the money to the casino because of greed, impatient, and lack of self control. Although some people that ends up winning such huge amount do not have enough financial knowledge.

This is an interesting question, for me it really depends on the bankroll. Say my bankroll is $1k, then if I make another $1k I could already walk away, that's a 100% return and I don't think that's being too ambitious.

But sometimes I start with only $100 and I still want to stop only when I reach $1k, that's already much more ambitious, and most of the time I just end up losing the money.

So I guess the lesson is to be realistic, if you want a bigger win then you probably need a bigger bankroll too.

Additional, 300k is a lot of money in my country, enough to make one life like a king.

It can be easy to say for a gambler who haven't gotten such win before.

Don't you think the same thing that made you play to get up to $300k will still want you to play and make more? And now you have even more money to gamble and risk it will be easy for you to not look back with the kind of risk you are taking.

If one is really going to stay away from gambling, they will need to put more effort after the win because it will not be easy.ghey have to make up their mind completely fixed not to gamble ever again even if it comes to the worst.

Just because someone has $300k in their hand does not mean their gambling habit will end. In fact big win can often reinforce gambling. In my experience I have seen many player gamble more after big win. And to feel that high again they start looking for bigger and better win.

And if that person win $300k and build house and farming business but then goes back to gambling and loses it all then for me the problem is not $300k shortfall. Rather I would say he had less control over his gambling.

Slowly he started losing everything back to gambling and it was all because he failed to take his eye off gambling, a big mistake that cost him everything, but then I am thinking, isn't 300k big enough to walk away completely?
And real gambler would always be back, there is no need walking away totally from gambling since I'm not there to make money in the first place. If I win $300k, I will withdraw it, use it to improve my living and still go back to gambling the following weekend to catch my fun, life continues. The problem people have is that when they record a win, they see it as a motivation to chase profits endlessly, only for them to discover after a while that they're now chasing losses.

What happened to the person in quote was because he was gambling for profits and the win provoked more irresponsibility in him and he went all in on the casino. I've been there, so I know the exact feeling.

Additional, 300k is a lot of money in my country, enough to make one life like a king.
Whether $300,000 is a big sum of money or not is not the real question. The real question is how the person viewed gambling and whether they had their own stopping mechanism.

isn't 300k big enough to walk away completely?
Financially it may be enough. But psychologically not necessarily.
If a person thinks I can make more if I play once again, then $300k or $3 million, none of them, is a magic stopping point.
IMO he never really won. The real skill is never winning big. The real skill is knowing when to leave the table after winning big.

now if you manage to win $300,000 from online gambling, fully paid, is this enough for you to stop gambling?

I'm not really sure if I could completely stop gambling even if I won that much. I can control my gambling, actually there's no big problem with my gambling activities. Even if I win big, I guess I just stop for a while to enjoy the win. But indeed, big wins sometimes make us lose control. What happens is that we end up using the winnings to gamble with an even bigger budget.

It will be a lie if I said that all gamblers are gambling to have some fun, most gamblers want to make money from gambling atleast, now if you manage to win $300,000 from online gambling, fully paid, is this enough for you to stop gambling?
Money can be involved in gambling, and the fun can be there too, but despite the involvement of money, some gamblers don't allow it to dictate their decisions, and they are not desperate to win by all means.
Quote
Someone I don't know was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and he said he once won 300k and gambling took everything back, he did alot with the money, build a house and start a farming business.

Slowly he started losing everything back to gambling and it was all because he failed to take his eye off gambling, a big mistake that cost him everything, but then I am thinking, isn't 300k big enough to walk away completely?

Additional, 300k is a lot of money in my country, enough to make one life like a king.
No matter how small or big a win in gambling is, it is always better to walk away. If you think the win is too big and you deserve to win more, you may end up losing everything. If you think the win is too small, there is no guarantee of winning big. Every win, no matter the size, should be treated as an opportunity to walk away.

We are always talking, and encouraging responsible gambling,  and honestly someone who is responsible cannot loose back this kind of win or investment back to a gambling company. How much we need to get out of gambling is highly dependent on an individual, there are some gamblers who even quit without even winning anything. Some quit after winning less than 300k, and some gamblers won more than  $300k yet refused to quit from gambling. It is actually something very difficult to quit from gambling, but people who have control over their personal decision can quit unconditionally. However, if you are a gambler, and you happen to win huge, it is advisable to still maintain discipline as a gambler, count your huge win as a profit, and avoid behaving as if you are still a bigginer who has not made any huge profit, instead you become even more responsible.

No amount of money will make me quit gambling. Of course, sometimes I still gamble to make money. I want to win, but it doesn't mean that if I hit the jackpot I would stop gambling. I would still gamble. It may not be as much as I gamble now, but I would still gamble, especially sports betting.
Sometimes when I place bets, not because I need money, but because I want to bet on my predictions; if I win from it, then fine.
Winning a life changing amount of money will change a lot of things in my life and may even make it in a way that I don't have enough time as I do now to gamble, but whenever I have the time, I will still gamble. The only time I will quit gambling is when I notice that it is getting out of hand.

There is an amount I spend on gambling weekly and if I'm being sincere, I will still spend that money on something else if I don't spend it on gambling, so No, winning $300k won't make me stop gambling, but you also won't here me say I lost $300k to gambling, this is because I do everything I can to make sure i don't exceed my personal weekly limit. It doesn't matter whether I'm winning or losing, the moment that amount is reached I stop gambling for the week, if it spills over to the next week then I simply have the luxury of spending more that new week.

Stories like this are not rare in gambling, the most famous one is a trash worker in UK winning near 10 million pound and lost it all in 8 years got so much broke that started working as a trash man again. He lost it all in wild life parties, drugs and gambling all together. The amount won by your country man is irrelevant compared to 10 million pounds so I am not surprised that gambling took it all again from him, that is how gambling is designed, to take all money away from us in the long run.

If the conditions says i shouldn't gamble again then I might have to stop gambling but if there is no condition regarding if I should continue or stop gambling then I am likely gonna keep gambling.
Greed is something that a lot of gamblers need to deal with esle it would ruin their lives. I'm not saying I'm better than those who have made these mistakes but from a perspective standpoint I know how well I have conquered the urge of wanting to gamble even when the funds are available. It's not even reasonable to liquidate a business just so you can gamble with the money, that's considered a careless mistake.
