I have two charts out of many charts here which I was keenly watching and I then thought, what's the point selling off your bitcoin when you are still agile and actively working? Is it not better to make bitcoin your retirement plan? If a person who has up to 20 years left before retirement, if he starts buying bitcoin through the remaining 20 years before retirement, he could pass through 5 different cycles before his retirement.

From the records, bitcoin has always gone to a New All time high in every new cycle  which shows how safe your money is when saved in bitcoin. Each cycle shows a huge percentage increase from the previous all time high just as we witnessed in October 6th 2025 all time high of $126k, over 82% rise from the November 10th 2021 all time high. The increase rate differs with cycles and could get better or less, but the point is that we're almost fully assured of a positive response with each cycle. Another good thing is that each cycle always almost has a bottom low higher than the previous bottom low of a previous cycle as shown in the second chart.

Making plans for your retirement using bitcoin as your asset is not a bad decision since even real estate does not assure anyone of such quick profit of up to 82% in just 4 years. Make your plans now and set your accumulation target based on the number of years left before your retirement. Self employed people also have their retirement period when they hand over their business to their children or workers. Make hay while the sun shines, invest in bitcoin today for a safer tomorrow.

You have a very good point, instead of buying and selling bitcoin like a trader, having the retirement plan in bitcoin is better. People have retirement plan so that they have the money they can rely on at old age. Something that can hedge against inflation and also that can preserve their money. But in addition, bitcoin can increase the value of their their money.

Bitcoin is getting less volatile, having reducing volatility. These can increase Nigerians confidence in investing in it. It is far better than saving naira in bank. And for those that prefer fiat collateralized stable coins like USDT and USDC, know that knowledgeable people that are living in United States still want assets that can be used to hedge against inflation.

Dis things go make beta sense if say government go fit allow people to choose which way dem wan save dia retirement funds and dem go dey allocate the amount wey match the monthly contribution to retirement plans in Bitcoin to maybe ETF provider like Black Rock on behalf of de person, den after many years and de person wan retire, em go choose to cash-in, continue with the ETF or receive their coins in self-custody wallets.

E go really make sense as retirement plan dat way, de value of your retirement benefits go dey preserved right from time and you go dey in good profits. This go dey better dan all the companies wey dey use people money do business for many years, come dey give dem peanuts when dem don retire.

It’s the right idea to invest in assets that can hedge against inflation and Bitcoin is a very useful option in that regard. I would encourage anyone to take up Bitcoin investment for this purpose but, I wouldn’t advise them to go solely on it. Reason being that, it’s a volatile asset and does its the fact that, it’s volatility is greatly reduced at the time, the need to satisfy your daily needs would always require you to make consistent withdrawals and that would in some way defeat the goals that a Bitcoin retirement plan would have brought for an investor.

There should be an alternative source of income that would fuel your daily expenses while being supported by the Bitcoin investment even as you build your portfolio.

The United States are already doing this, various states pension funds have invested some part of their funds in bitcoin ETF. But all these narrows down to the individual acceptance of this practice, I read on the bitcoin discussion board on this forum about how most of the people still considers it risky.

In Nigeria however, the practice of using retirement funds for bitcoin investment by the retirement bodies and the government is highly unlikely, because even before Bitcoin I don’t think Nigerian Pension Funds are even publicly investing in other “risky” things like stocks, so I doubt the regulatory agency managing the risks associated with the funds investment will even allow bitcoin investments whatsoever.

So if anyone wants to use Bitcoin investments as his/her retirement plan then e go need sit down redo him budget and create a small space to get discretionary funds so as to start the investment by NCA especially if he/she is a working class and salary receiving person.

You have a very good plan, one that'll not be influenced by the market's volatility, that's what I find very interesting here.

This is a very good plan for someone who's working and thinking about retirement, you don't need to constantly buy and sell. Having a long-term strategy is very rewarding plan that's mostly likely going to be extremely beneficial after retirement.

That said, it's also important not to totally assume that Bitcoin must make a new ATH every four years, Bitcoin regardless of it's history is still a volatile asset so anything can happen.

I get your point, and its even better that way and may even become more profitable because individuals don't have to take themselves of trying to save up there retirement money in Bitcoin, trying to get a right investment amount each week or month as you wish, but instead, government does that for you, it will be nice, yea.  But that isn't happening any time soon.

So, this is a personal decision. While you are getting your salary monthly, and you have decided to get bitcoin as your retirement plan, you simply start buying Bitcoin with the particular amount you wish to save. Of course, you will be doing your buys using the DCA, payment attention to the basic necessities and also building your investment. It's a nice idea. It should be practiced.

Saving Bitcoin for retirement is definitely a good step and it is definitely good to take. But the problem is to implement it, it is very difficult for a person to save money in self-custody for 20-30 years especially if there is profit involved. In case of fiat savings, a bank/an institution takes the responsibility of custody of our money and is forced to follow some rules and regulations, so saving fiat for 20-30 years is possible.

But when you have a large amount of money that you can use very easily, even that money is growing over time. In this case, it is very difficult to keep your goal strong for such a long time. You have to take various steps to protect your investment so that you are not forced to sell the investment. But the steps you have to take to maintain your savings during retirement are also very difficult. Saving Bitcoin for retirement is a very good step, but it is very difficult to maintain that savings for such a long time. Even in the case of continuous savings, you may get bored at some point. But if it is done in an institutional way, then there is a possibility of success...

Good point OP. Personally, I see Bitcoin as good retirement plan but the fact remains that nothing is certain - only the future will tell, so we just have to rely on our personal assessments to weigh available options.

Generally, a good practice would be to make retirement  plans for atleast for different kinds of assets/stocks, that way you don't end up losing everything if one asset or stock goes bad. For bitcoin investment, I practice a modified form of naira cost average; I buy aggressively when there's a bear market, then buy less aggressively when there is a bull run. So at the time when I am buying less aggressively, I channel the remainder of my investment funds to other asset.

Any investor who can muster the courage and take it upon themselves to accumulate Bitcoin for the next 20-30 years is definitely going to retire rich because that's a guarantee that would pay off better than retirement benefits plan in 20-30years in fiat.
The difference is that while inflation would reduce the value of retirement funds in a 401k pension plan, Bitcoin would be a hedge against such an inflation and have the magic of volatility and Bull seasons making it more valuable after that duration.

I especially like to advise those who don't earn from salaried jobs but rely on manual blue collar jobs to survive on a daily basis to plan their retirement with Bitcoin as the backbone, because while there is still strength from youth, it is the best time to plan for the future where old age sucks the strength off and there's no prearranged pension plan to fall back on for survival.

It's not as if making bitcoin a retirement plan is not good but make sure you also have an alternative retirement plan to back up your Bitcoin investment because scary things are happening now, a single compromise of your Bitcoin wallet can make you lose all what you have hold over the years. Invest in physical assets too, if you have enough money also invest in real estate because from time immemorial, real estate business has been one of the most lucrative physical investment that is unlikely to fail you in the long term inasmuch as you can afford its maintenance in the long run. Bitcoin is a good investment but we should not forget about volatility, the price might fall when you needed to use your bitcoin and apart from that, what if something happens to the Internet in the future (even though it is unlikely to happen) how will you be able to cope? Have a sense of urgency because you can also need a quick money to sort an immediate need, what if you have exhausted your emergency funds and maybe you needed that money at a time when the market is in bear season. This is why it is important to also diversify into other investment plus bitcoin as your retirement plan so that you won't encounter many challenges in the long run.

In as much as there's a big advantage especially in terms of ROI, the risks are still there. My best advice to people is diversify your retirement plans and investments. The parable don't put all your eggs in one basket is very important in investments even as good as bitcoin investment sounds a lot of things could go wrong. Worse is getting hacked and your funds stolen.

For everyone considering this make sure you weigh your psychology and expectations to see if it's something you can actually handle sometimes it doesn't play out as positive raw ROI outputs when you have are not ready.

This is a very interesting discussion, because most of the foreign countries like US from some articles I have come across are looking at (if not already implemented) to put this into play for their citizens.

It would have been very much okay if the government are able to put this into plan for those in the government parastatals and private sectors who also carries retirement plan for their staff members. But we know this is not going to work, except we start executing this plan ourselves before our retirement time.

Everybody does what they believe works for them, real estate, land buying, or holding assets that have a good store of value. Some who are capable, choose to combine all in one as part of their retirement planning. Bitcoin is a good option, but it is only an option, not a criterion.

I will pick Bitcoin over so many options, and if I find out a more preferable option other than Bitcoin, I don't mind diversifying for the benefits.

Retirement is a big phase of someone's life, you either enjoy it or live to regret decisions that were made in the past, it is necessary to make the right choice now that it is not too late, the clock keeps ticking, and time waits for nobody.

Having Bitcoin as our retirement plan is actually the best decision anybody could do for his or herself in the future. Because with the high tendency which Bitcoin has to skyrocket higher after it's 4years life cycle, if an individual is to start investing in Bitcoin now, then they stand a better chance of having a far more financial freedom than someone who might have kept his money in the traditional bank, that could be affected by inflation, due to poor government's policy. So for those who could still be working and might have been thinking of a good retirement plan they could do, this is a perfect option. And you don't need to start big, because whatever amount you can start with, whether $20 weekly or monthly, it's still not bad, inasmuch as to stay consistent.

The term retirement plan tells how long investors are ought to hold bitcoin if they want to achieve profit, it doesn’t necessary have to be before 20 years of retirement or beyond, provided that there’s a good management plan that can help sustain the investment. Now the common mistake concerning retirement plan is people assume this kind of investment is only meant for aged investors meanwhile anyone can start their retirement plan at any time as mentioned this plan is more favorable compared to selling and buying at any market price. Bitcoin circle can be complicated at times, although understanding the all time high strategy can be encouraging but, the problem concerning the circle is when it takes longer time to reach probably desired target, most of this plans are calculated reason why holding for long should be considered as a retirement plan.

Honestly Bitcoin is a good retirement plan but I wouldn't say that taking all of your money on one thing in the long run is very safe. There has been a major decline in each previous cycle and each time, there has been a new ATH, so every time there has been a new high with a major drop each time. As Bitcoin fell from around $69,000 in 2021 to around $15,000 in 2022.  This means that the market can turn around at any moment. You don't want to put all your eggs in one basket because you fear that if it falls then everything comes crashing down, so it is better to have some savings in real estate or other investments than just crypto. High returns but a slightly diversified portfolio in sensitive areas such as retirement is much safer for the future.

It's so sad when people don't see the reality about Bitcoin Investment.

They put fear of volatility first and it becomes an obstacle to seeing what they could really accomplish with Bitcoin over the years. Think of Bitcoin like a safe heaven but on a wider scale.

Those who have held their Bitcoin since the very beginning have bigger visions and it doesn't matter how much the market dips, they are still going to hodl their coins because they have a plan for the future.

In as much as it's profitable to hold bitcoin for retirements doesn't mean user's selling their bitcoins is making wrong decisions.
You don't make the profit ONLY when you're investing for retirement either. Everyone do have their investment goals and so on their timeframe with the need's to sell differs.
Any bitcoin investor who hasn't considered retirement investment plan's as an advanced investment plan is also missing a lot because instead of saving those your incomes in fiats that values can be dismissed over the long term at a retirement stage of such duration of 20 year's, saving it in bitcoin will definitely give you an edge to preserve it value against inflation.
