I have been using cryptorank.io to monitor my crypto portfolio, simply as watch only kind of operation.
Today they send me this disturbing message.



While many will say it shouldn't bother me just like a friend said, I want to know for sure if it is something that I shouldn't be worried about, my email address is now known with my wallet address.

The question in mind is if your address is know to hold $7000 worth of Bitcoin and alternative coins is there is possible dangers that I should be on the lookout for?

This is why I refuse to provide my personal data to crypto portfolio analysis sites: the utility simply isn't worth the risks. Sure, it might seem convenient to monitor your crypto addresses on these platforms, but you need to realize that such sites might be negligent in safeguarding user data, making security breaches a very real threat.

It's like safety first approach to stop using that email for important accounts in the future. It can be considered like an email for unimportant things, something like a throwaway email.

Of course, there is. The scammer could send a phishing link to your email with the hope that you would click it. He could also send a dust transaction to the exposed addresses, hoping that you would accidentally copy the fake address when you want to make a transaction.

I'm happy that Cryptorank informed their users about the data breach, which will help them be on the lookout for possible scams. However, I would suggest you send your coins to a new address and discontinue using the email address if possible. Also, I would advice you avoid using similar service in future because the risk is not worth it.

Having knowledge of blockchain does not mean that anyone cannot fall victim to scam when they act carelessly or fail to take note of little details that may put their bitcoins at risk. Scammers are also improving on their skills and getting sophisticated that they can make things look so identical that it becomes a bit difficult to spot the differences.

Everyone with their own scope of avoiding scammers; someone can never be too careful, and I personally know how to identify and ignore scam and phishing mail, but to be on the safer side, I have abandoned 2-3 of my old mailings that I have publicly posted in places that have led to countless scam mail being dropped in my inbox almost every day just to avoid the mistake of clicking on a link I should not or my child doing that while using my phone. I have trashed them all.

The email address is the risk you're exposed to, you can receive personalized phishing links there. Scammers will try to get you to panic and make a mistake that can lead to you sending them actual sensitive personal information.

Your address being exposed doesn't pose a security risk. Many users here are on campaigns with their addresses in a public spreadsheet. A dust attack can be attempted, to try and get an idea of any other wallets you own but that also doesn't expose you to any further risk.

One shouldn't worry about wallet addresses being exposed because Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency wallet addresses are open for anyone to see or view all your transactions from the day of creation of that wallet and to the first transaction you performed that wallet on the Blockchain, so the email is where problem lies, however everything is still in your control since you have this information about the attack, you should now be more cautious in what links you will click or open in your mailbox and if you haven't, or you can as well choose to abandon that email and create a different one.

If you frequently receive unwanted emails and shady offerings coming from unknown sources, that means the email you have used has been acquired by scammers. Maybe they got it from past data breach happen or there are scam platforms you signed up before sold the data of their costumers.

That's why if that case happen all the time. Better abandon it and don't try to use it on other important matters.

Same goes with wallet addresses to. If we know that this on experience a past hacking issue or think that there's some shady stuff happening, especially we receive some dust transaction out of nowhere. Better not to use it and grab fresh wallet.

This is how important not to expose our wallet, especially if we used it for storing our funds for long term. Since with this we can minimize or avoid any unnecessary issues.

So basically the portfolio tracker you are using get a data breach, now possible here is your email is now already expose to them and most of the email has a binded wallet address you put into their platform one of the vulnerability i can see here is they will check your bitcoin address if there is a balance and then use that email to set you a phishing message or trying to access your email itself so your device can now be compromised.

This is the reason why we do not recommend to stick with the single wallet address because once they know that you are the owner of the address your information is already exposed, and you are at risk now. Most of the bitcoin wallet now support the use of the UTXO destined to your wallet address (change address), but not the same wallet address.

They can be careless at beginnings when they're newbies for example but they can learn, improve knowledge, change their practice and be more careful later. Hence, they will be able to avoid phishing scams quite easily, it completely depends on them.

I don't know the advantage of using this third party website to monitor your portfolio even though you set that up as watch only wallet. I feel it is even risky to expose your wallet that much becaise you may be opening yourself up as a target for phsishing and other forms of attacks. As a matter of urgency, discontinue using that service and if possible, transfer your money out of that exposed wallet that have been tied to your email.

In my case it's never going to happen because that wallet address is a airgapped device, where will they send the phishing link to? I am not the time that uses devices connected to the internet and still use such devices to keep my Bitcoin and crypto assets.

Phishing can only happen on my PC or my smartphone and they both have nothing to do with my airgapped hardware wallet, let's sayy email is exposed as the wallet address owner, so what?
