 As you said that fraudists may send minute amounts of crypto currency in order to trace transaction histories and  link the wallets together the only way to prevent ourselves against it this is simply leaving those tiny amounts unspent.

Op If only your address had been exposed there would have been no problem because they would not have found any way to contact you but since they got your email address they can message you with various types of techniques so you should be careful about this. I don't think anyone would purposely exposed their wallet address, you can exposed it and people may not be interested. The interested parties are servers where you connect your wallet to sync your balance. Your common spv wallet are connected to nodes and server and some of them watch IP address and wallet address for some reasons best known to them, people do this this a lot without realizing and it's one of the very concern with address privacy.

If your address contains huge funds its not really the best option to expose that to the public. Knowing that dust attacks and other threats exist, they might be a potential target if they brag to much about their balances online.

So if they are dealing with online platforms regularly for investment and other financial matters. Much better for people to use dummy wallets which contains small funds. Because with this they became less attractive to the hackers or bad actors online.

Maybe there's incident of data breach happen and they didn't disclose that incident to their costumer, that's why you receive those scam mails even if you didn't give it elsewhere.

I agree,  even when it cause no harm, exposing it meant difference things to people,  they might see tou as a begged looking for aid from the public,  because if you have no intention there's no need way You will public your address out there. We have to stay locked in ,in this crypto space,  many people see crypto investors as scammer while some view us a wealthy people,  don't let public know about your crypto investment. In situations like this, creating two or more Bitcoin addresses that will be used for applying for jobs online and that of personal investment that will not be posted online is the best way to staying safe for thoes who might be scared of a dust attack. Because apart from a dust attack whuch an exposed wallet address can be prone to, every other thing is safe. Because despite how the rate of online scams may have increased recently than before, its still impossible for anybody to have access to your Bitcoin without having access to its seed phrases.
