Monetarium is a hybrid PoW/PoS network, live on mainnet since May 2026, built on the Decred codebase.
It is mined on CPU, and the project currently runs a buyback program for node operators: the terms are below, after the parameters.

No premine. No treasury. The genesis coinbase is zero VAR.
Every VAR in circulation was mined, under the same rules offered to you here.
Check that before reading further, it takes one request: https://monetarium.online/block/0

Network parameters

Algorithm: BLAKE3, CPU mining; no GPU or ASIC is needed.
Block time: 5 minutes.
Block reward: 64 VAR, split between the miner and the holders of the tickets that voted on the block.
Miners receive 50% of each block's reward.  Today that is up to 32 VAR per block, about 9,200 VAR a day network-wide.
Decred, on the same codebase and the same BLAKE3 algorithm, currently pays miners 1%.
Both figures sit a few lines apart in one function, `GetSubsidyProportions` in `blockchain/standalone/subsidy.go` (https://github.com/monetarium/monetarium-node/blob/main/blockchain/standalone/subsidy.go) - read them there rather than take them from us.
There is no pool: mining is solo, through your own node, and the installer configures it.

Setup is one command.
It installs the node, wallet and CLI, creates your wallet, configures mining and registers a system service, so the node keeps running across reboots.
Guide: https://monetarium.world/ways-to-earn · Installation video (26 min): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVq9EMbOciQ

Today the whole network is mined by a handful of addresses, and the campaign page shows the live count.
The small number is the argument, not the fine print: your share of the range's blocks is your share of hashrate, so the earlier you come, the larger it is.

The buyback

The network is young and we want more independent nodes running.
So for one month, defined as a range of 8,640 blocks, the project buys back up to half of what participants mine, at a fixed price.

Campaign range: blocks 33,501 - 42,140, approximately 20 September 2026 - 20 October 2026; the range is what counts, not the calendar.
Price: $0.10 per VAR, paid in USDT (TRC-20).
What is bought: up to 50% of the miner's reward for blocks your address mined inside the range.
Cap per mining address: 27,000 VAR, counted across all claims from that address.
Minimum payout: $10 per claim.
Claim and transfer window: 7 days after the range closes; payouts go out in one batch within 7 days after the window closes.
Payout condition: subscribe to @monetarium_world and join @monetarium_world_chat.
Size of the program: at $0.10 the buyback cannot exceed $13,824 - half of everything the range is able to pay miners.
That last figure is a ceiling, not a budget that runs out.
Nobody's claim is reduced by anyone else's, and no rule in the terms scales a payout down.

Only the miner's part of a block is bought.
Staking rewards are a different kind of transaction and are not counted.

Your amount is public before you ask for it.
The blocks your address mined are on-chain, and the campaign page shows how to read your own number off the explorer at any moment while the range runs.
The arithmetic is not our discretion, and you can check it during the campaign, not after: https://monetarium.world/promo

Claims go through the form on the campaign page, and nowhere else.
No forum post, comment or private message is required, counted, or read as an entry.
The transfer address is published on monetarium.world and nowhere else.
We never write to you first in a private message, settlement never happens in Telegram, the only email about your claim comes from support@monetarium.world, and nobody will ever ask for your seed phrase.

One disclosure, so you don't have to dig for it: VAR is not listed on any exchange.
$0.10 is the program's buyback rate, set and funded by the project; it is not a market quote.

Update: GPU mining on the network

When this thread went up, mining on Monetarium was CPU only. That changed this week. GPU miners are on the network, and difficulty has gone from about 12 to over 800 in four days.

Blocks mined on a GPU take part in the buyback on the same terms as any other. Nothing was ever forbidden, and eligibility is unchanged: an Ms mining address, blocks inside 33,501 to 42,140, and the terms on the promo page.

The line above about an ordinary CPU being a visible share of the hashrate was true when it was written and is not true now. Work out your own expected share from the explorer instead: https://monetarium.online/hashrate-shares

The range is a fixed 8,640 blocks whatever the hashrate, so the campaign buys back the same amount either way. What hashrate decides is whose addresses those blocks belong to.

GPU mining on Monetarium: the software is out

On 2 September we said we would rather mining on more kinds of hardware came from our own software than from third-party miners, and that we were not putting a date on it.

Here is the first piece of it: https://github.com/monetarium/monetarium-stratum

It is a solo stratum pool that runs next to your own node, with a GPU miner (OpenCL) and a CPU miner that connect to it. Your node builds the block template, the pool hands work to your miner, and solved blocks go straight back to your node and out to the network. The GPU miner is deliberately plain: one OpenCL BLAKE3 kernel, no per-vendor tuning, so it should run on whatever card you have rather than run fast on one brand.

The blocks stay on your own address. The coinbase is built by your node from your miningaddr, so there is no pool operator in between, no share accounting and nothing to withdraw. The reverse is worth knowing too: if you point a miner at somebody else's stratum server, the blocks it solves are credited to whoever runs that server's node, not to you. For the buyback that is the whole difference between a block that counts as yours and one that does not, so run the pool on your own machine. We do not operate a public pool, and if you are ever offered one in our name, it is not us.

This is early software and we are asking for testers rather than announcing a finished product. It is built and tested on Linux, there are no prebuilt binaries yet, and you build it from source: Go 1.23 or newer for the pool and the miners, plus a C++ compiler and a working OpenCL runtime for the GPU part.

One thing catches everyone, so it is worth saying before you start. The node will not serve work while it is mining on its own CPU — it answers getwork polling is disallowed while CPU mining is enabled. Run monetarium-ctl setgenerate false, and take generate=true out of monetarium.conf as well, or CPU mining comes back on the next restart. Leave miningaddr where it is: the node still needs it to build the coinbase, and it is the address the blocks are credited to.

Tell us how it goes — what card, what hashrate, what broke. Issues on GitHub, or https://t.me/monetarium_world_chat.

Nothing about the campaign changes. Blocks mined on a GPU take part on the same terms as any other, and the price, the block range, the cap per mining address and who is eligible stay as published.

The campaign range is open. Block 33,501 is on the chain, and from that block on every block your address mines counts toward the buyback. The range runs to block 42,140.

Weekly numbers, week ending 16 September 2026, straight off the explorer:

Blocks mined this week: 1,899
Active mining addresses this week: 18
Largest single address: 19.6% of this week's blocks (https://monetarium.online/hashrate-shares)

Campaign range: 142/8,640 blocks mined, closes around 20 October 2026.

Questions welcome.

The Monetarium node map is live - it shows the public part of the network.
https://monetarium.world/nodes

A public node is one with port 9508 open, so other nodes can connect to it. Right now the vast majority of nodes run without that port open: they otherwise work normally, but only make outbound connections, so they cannot be reached from outside and do not appear on the map.

Want to see your node on the map? Open inbound TCP port 9508. Behind a home router, forward that port to the node. The map updates once a day.

Weekly numbers, week ending 7 October 2026, straight off the explorer:

Blocks mined this week: 2,180
Active mining addresses this week: 28
Largest single address: 42.4% of this week's blocks (https://monetarium.online/hashrate-shares)

Campaign range: 6,701/8,640 blocks mined, ends at block 42,140.

Questions welcome.
