Premier League is paying a whole lot of money to these players so I wouldn't blame them for staying for the money because who wouldn't stay, premier League has truly dominated and gone are those days were Italy and Spanish league dominated and these days players are more concerned about their reputation and they want the fame and prestige too which only premier League is capable of giving them and it doesn't matter to them the club they play in the popular premier League as long as the pay is good and they get to be famous. However, nothing has changed too much for other leagues because there are still very known and famous players in other leagues and I enjoy watching them too.

Absolutely evident that it is the best Championship, as management, as economy, as prestige.
Clearly any young player who wants to make a career wants to reach the top level in everything, the only Championship that I would perhaps put in second place is the Spanish one, still Real Madrid and Barcelona are teams coveted by many young people, it is no coincidence that they have many talents in their squad.
Unfortunately, the Italian Serie A has been experiencing a decline in performance for several years compared to the others. This season, I've noticed a "slight" improvement in quality after the transfer window.
But gone are the golden days, of Milan, Juventus, Inter where for long sessions they dominated the Championship.

You think a player can just join whatever club they want to? The club has to want you too, with that or you are a free agent the rest of your professional career. People clearly still want to play for the big team but that's also why it's difficult because if everyone wants something, only a select few will be able to get it and the rest will have to work hard to put themselves in a position where the clubs will want them while also making due with what's available in the mean time.
After all you can't be a good footballer if you are no playing and if you are not playing then no reasonable club eill want you.
I'm not too big on the NBA so I don't fully understand the comparison.
And if every players has that right to join any club they wants then believe me that there will be no more local leagues because those playing there are so interested in playing in the international or popular league season but because, as football has it stages, so the performance and influences of players determine which league they would be while there relevances attracts the clubs and the club too considers the worth of the players before signing contacts with them.

The club as well have to consider its bankroll before signing players because the as the possessions of players differs, so their payments differs too.
But in all, it is usually clubs that goes for the players and not the players going for the club because you are not going to play free for the club.

Joining the premier league alone carries more prestige. Even though the club you joined is mid level. As long as you are in premier League, you've entered another new era of probably fame and boast. The league is big no doubt. And players are willing to go mid club just the join. But that does not change anything for European league. There are still dope elite clubs there that players too aspire to join. So it's all about players preference.
Premier League actually gives popularities to players, the premier League is the best League in the world and they are the most watched League in the world, they have a lot of clubs with millions of fans all over the world, clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City has a lot of fans all over the world.
I love the premier League so much, I don't think any player playing in the premier League will not be happy to play there.

These days players that want to retire usually go to Saudi Arabia to retire because they pay more money there than any European club but they can't give popularity to players that is why players usually go there when they want to retire.

You are right because in terms of popularity, I don't think there is any league that give players the type exposure that the Premier League gives. This is not surprising because England is strong in terms of the media and by the fact that they colonized so many countries with their language being the most popular language in the world, it becomes easy for them to control the media beside the United States who are not much into soccer. If it is just money, then oil money is where it is and even some Chinese teams pay more than the big European teams.

The premier league is popular, spends alot of money to get players of their choice. Any footballer who wants to make money and fame will join the premier league. The premier league makes more money through broadcasting and others, the club's there usually circulate players amongst themselves with huge fees. But at the end of these things,. Players dreams are always to play for either this club, Barcelona and  Real Madrid. The issues with other league now is their finances, where they can't spend huge amount of money. Take La liga for an example every club are battling with the FFP issue, so clubs can't bid for top players and offer big salaries. This summer window alone, shows us how premier league mid. Club's spend more money that Real Madrid and Barcelona. For now , it the money and fame in which the premier league has that attracts players, but if you ask them deep down, their dream is to play for either of the two la liga giants.

For example, Sandro Tonali is moving from Newcastle to Tottenham, so there’s no career progression in moving from a team not competing in European competitions to another that hasn’t qualified. It’s certainly a better contract.
A better contract clearly explains why a player has no problem to play in a team that is not pushing their career progression. Their career progression is 2nd important compared to the financial motive. They play football as their job, and achievement is just a bonus.

Beside that a player doesn't care in what club they play as long as it's in EPL. This is because EPL being valued higher than other league in term of various factors i.e popularity, financial, and etc.

Nevertheless, playing in a mediocre club of EPL isn't that bad. We have plenty of new superstars like Vitinha or Olise who shining after they started his journey from low - mid table clubs. It shows EPL has some magic even for a player who played for a low tier club.

England hold a greater esteem when it comes to football entertainment and as OP has illustrated it step by step on how those great players of those years was really dominating as of then in different clubs within the premier League, so i humbly agree to what you have said earlier run because most of those great players of those time has a record in England preimer League before moving down to any leagues outside premier League and why most of the players doesn't want to leave England when their contracts finishes because they believe that people are more interesting in watching premier League more than any other leagues, so the popularity of preimer League has contributed allot.

Until a few years ago, the best players aspired to play in Italy and for Spanish clubs; in England, Ferguson’s Manchester United, Wenger’s Arsenal and Abramovich’s Chelsea dominated, alongside Steven Gerrard’s Liverpool. Players who went to play in the Premier League were the exception. Twenty years on, the Premier League is every player’s ambition, whether for money or prestige.
Remove Italy from the equation, and this is still the case. Yes, money has a lot of motivating factors, but there is a point where a player just wants to achieve success at the European level. Obviously Italy was so good back in the day but not anymore. Spain, on the other hand, is still a good destination, and I will tell you most players still dream of playing for Barcelona and Real Madrid. Problem is Barcelona became very broke in the recent years, leaving Real Madrid at the helm.

Spain is the ultimate destination. PSG from France and Bayern from Germany are right behind them, but when it comes to European history, there is only one destination for very ambitious players in their prime.
The funny thing is you will never see players in their prime in Spain crossing to England. Like Mbappe, Vini, Valverde, and Yamal, moving from Spain to England, but the opposite is very possible.

Historically, Spanish players have been very attached to their domestic league. La Liga means a great deal to Spanish players.
But over the years, a number of Spanish players have moved abroad – top players such as Morata, David Villa, Raúl, Morientes, Xabi Alonso, Thiago Alcántara, Santi Cazorla and many others.
Top Italian players, on the other hand, used to rarely leave Serie A; nowadays, it is rare for them to stay in Serie A.

I am not even just pointing out only Spanish players. I am talking about players in their prime who are playing in the Spanish La Liga at a top level, moving to the Premier League. How many do you know? vs top-level Premier League players moving/showing interest moving to Spain?

How many Premier League clubs have you heard bid for, let's say, Lamine Yamal or Vini or Fede, and are so sure about getting them within that transfer window?

If the sides flipped and Real Madrid or Barcelona (the one that is not broke Grin) wanted Saka, Rice, Bruno Fernandez, or Halaand, they would certainly have him in a season or two.

The premier league has been an attractive league for years, and it has also remained the most watched league in Europe top 5 leagues. So it’s not surprising when it is attracting big players to come play there. The pay is also good, so to the players it’s a big win for them, playing in the most watched league in Europe and you are also earning better wages. So there will be no need to leave to somewhere else. But honestly I still believe that Barcelona and Real Madrid still retain that pull factor on players. The very best players in the premier league will jump to the offer of joining Barcelona or Real Madrid.
One thing you should know is that players will always want to join a bigger team that comes with good offer, no player will reject an offer from some big teams in europe unless those players are very okey in where ever they are. The premier league is actually the most watched league in the world and why it attract some players is that players wants to be watched by many people and premier league teams also offers a good amount of money to players this is because the least team in premier league has good revenue more than any other smaller team across the leagues in europe.

For example, Sandro Tonali is moving from Newcastle to Tottenham, so there’s no career progression in moving from a team not competing in European competitions to another that hasn’t qualified. It’s certainly a better contract.

What I see is that many players, just to play in the Premier League, are willing to join mid table or lower table sides; something that would be unthinkable in other leagues. It’s just like the NBA: a player isn’t interested in joining the Nuggets rather than the Golden State Warriors or the Mavericks; the important thing is to play in the NBA.

What do you think?

Obviously, it's all about visibility and career names and progress to other leagues. A player can move from worse team to another worse team and when he finally get the chance to show his talent, make moves and come the top of the club, it get attentions from different part of the leagues. It's easy for a player to play on English league and get recognition from other leagues than for a player to play on Spanish league and get recognition from other leagues.

It's only in English league a player get signed for a huge amount of money, you can never see that done elsewhere except for top players from other leagues that do retire top other leagues that are obsessed with them. Even Ronaldo was sign from Manchester United as English player, till date, there is no any player that was so expensive that was signed from English Premier League to any other league, it remain the biggest transfer salary in Asia and in football.

It’s because the PL is the biggest league in the world (commercially). The PL is maybe not the best league in the world but it’s the richest league in the world by far. The TV deal is more lucrative than any other league in Europe. This all means that PL teams on average, in comparison to other leagues pay the biggest wages. Players want to earn more money so that will always dictate where they play.

Any player you see moving round from one club to a lower one is because his value is declining. Of course, most players from England prefer to be roaming about in EPL because they don't want to leave their home. However, England prefer their own players in their clubs.

You cannot just move from one club to another if you are not of interest to the other club. Since, similar thing is happening in NBA, it means that's human for you, and there must be a reason for this if not what I stated above.

I appreciate that you later mentioned there can be valid reasons for players to move from one club to another,  if your initial assumption is not correct.
It's a misconception to think that players who make the choices are diminishing their worth.
In reality, many players opt for a move due to family considerations, while others seek increased playing opportunities, better salaries, favorable relationships with management, or enhanced career growth. It can often be challenging for a player to develop their skills when they are surrounded by many talented individuals at a major club, as was the case with Real Madrid in the past.
Some players take all these factors into account and decide to join a different or lower club.
