I’m a new member and recently posted this discussion thread in the Economics section: XXX What does speculation actually cost you mentally? We talk a lot about strategy, timing, entries and exits but not much about all the speculation actually does to a person over time. The obsessive checking even when one has bought an asset for the long term (I’m guilty of this, big time), the euphoria when prices go up and our inability to tamp it down in spite of having experienced it before and knowing what’s coming next, and the gut-drop on a loss that just doesn't quite compare to other financial setbacks. I'm an independent researcher/writer, not affiliated with any company or institution and am looking into just how this plays out for people: risk tolerance, financial behavior, and the psychological side of it. I have put together a short anonymous form if anyone wants to contribute (only takes 4-7 min, no personal data collected, nothing commercial): https://tally.so/r/eqg4QQ. Even if you don't fill it out, genuinely curious how others here think about both the mental and financial side of speculating. XXX The thread has since disappeared. It is no longer in my profile/post history, and when I follow the original thread link from my history I get: “The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.” My other 7 posts are still visible, but this thread is no longer there. I contacted mprep to ask about it and he said that he didn’t delete it and suggested I ask here in Meta, as it may have been considered ad spam. Could someone please clarify why the thread was removed and which rule it violated? Also, is an independent, non-commercial research survey like this considered ad spam in the Economics section? Thanks.

Haven't you received an email? Normally, when a thread or post is deleted because it's considered spam or because you've broken a rule, you'll receive an email notifying you of this. ... and when I follow the original thread link from my history I get:
“The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.”
Also, can you clarify this? Can you put the link here?

Nope, no email, nothing it actually happened twice, I posted my thread and went off and when I got back, no thread to be found, it was only by looking at my history that I got the 'either missing or off limits to you' and then I asked the moderator about it.
looked in my profile for any hint, got nothing there either.

I think it is when the full thread is deleted that you get the notification, but when only your reply is spam and gets deleted, you don't get notified. ... and when I follow the original thread link from my history I get:

Also, can you clarify this? Can you put the link here? I think he has another one deleted earlier as well, maybe the mod is against the form https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5592827.msg67098257#msg67098257https://bitlist.co/post/67098257looked in my profile for any hint, got nothing there either.
Not even a message? You should at least get a message in your profile even if the email you provided during registration is not functional.

From this thread you created, I've read through the content of the topic you created that's no longer visible and I think the ending part was what probably made one of the moderators to delete the thread I have put together a short anonymous form if anyone wants to contribute (only takes 4-7 min, no personal data collected, nothing commercial): https://tally.so/r/eqg4QQ. Adding this "anonymous form" wasn't necessary, it doesn't add to the topic you created. It made it look like you wanted to use the thread to invite forum members to your "independent crypto survey", that's where it's probably considered as an ad spam

Also, I AM inviting forum members to the "independent crypto survey", to have them fill it, if they want to and if not then simply share their views. So, is that not allowed here, on the forum anywhere? To ask members to take a survey?

Grow a thick skin first if you do not want this kind of thread get deleted next time. You are just a new member and you want to conduct a survey on crypto users of this forum.
All the surveys of this type that I have done before, I was paid for it. There was even one that I did 3 months ago on an exchange, I was paid $18 for it.
I gained nothing from you, no free survey for you. At least post and let the community gain from you first if you want it free.

I’m a new member and recently posted this discussion thread in the Economics section:
80% of the economics and speculation board of this forum is on the fine line between spam and having any usefulness. A newbie who comes to share some kind of survey does not deviate from it. I'm an independent researcher/writer, not affiliated with any company or institution and am looking into just how this plays out for people: risk tolerance, financial behavior, and the psychological side of it.
As an independent researcher/writer, what are your experiences? How reliable are anonymous investigations with a community that you obviously do not know well? The forum is open, are you sure there isn't a more precise way to collect the information you're interested in? I have put together a short anonymous form if anyone wants to contribute (only takes 4-7 min, no personal data collected, nothing commercial): It is not necessary to spam the entire forum with your survey. The meta section is not for that.

I just want to know why my post was deleted, what is allowed here and what isn't. I am not forcing anyone to take it as I even said in my post. It is through ppl's responses that I'll know what works and what doesn't. I understand that you don't want to participate and I respect that. But I am not an exchange or a company. I am just one person, a crypto user and investor who's curious and trying to understand the psychology behind it all. If this type of survey isn't allowed here, that's completely fine. I just want to understand the rule so I know what is and isn't appropriate to post.

It's not like this and you're wrong. When your post deleted, you will receive a notification in your inbox. When your post is in a thread that was deleted all by a moderator, you will not receive any notification for that thread deletion.

This is an independent exploratory project and this is the approach I currently have access to. If you have a particular method in mind that you think would be more appropriate, I'm genuinely interested in hearing it.

What I posted is not just about me, it is more about the community. You created an account on this forum on 31st of August, just one day after, you posted the topic which was on September 1st. It can look somehow suspicious. If you are an old member, the probability that the topic will be deleted is very low and close to zero.

I understand what you're saying and I can see how a completely new account posting a survey can look so suspicious. I'm not trying to argue that my post should automatically be allowed because I'm pursuing my interest. I am just trying to understand what is considered appropriate, if surveys and external links are allowed.

-snip- it actually happened twice,
https://bitlist.co/topic/5592827https://bitlist.co/topic/5592941I looked at the archives of both threads and noticed what you included: https://the.link/r/reflink and I suspect someone reported it for containing a referral link, even though that wasn't actually the case (I haven't verified this myself). Moderators might not bother checking such links thoroughly, simply drawing conclusions based on the link format.

Probably a better approach would be to introduce yourself and your independent exploratory project first, and after that publish the survey. Actually I didn’t include my original survey and link in my meta post first but then did it later, just to give other people the full picture (right context), that these were the contents that got it deleted. I am not expecting or trying (or even thinking of getting) to get people to fill out my survey in this Meta section because I’m only here in this Meta group to understand the reason, that’s it. When you say a better approach would be to introduce myself and my project first and then publish the survey, do you mean introducing myself in one thread and then making a separate survey post later?

The link I included was this https://tally.so/r/eqg4QQ, which is the tally survey link. Where are you seeing the https://the.link/r/reflink in the Bitlist archives? I'd like to understand what you're seeing because when I click on your archive links I see the Tally link.

Where are you seeing the https://the.link/r/reflink in the Bitlist archives? I'd like to understand what you're seeing because when I click on your archive links I see the Tally link. The link itself looks like a referral link at first glance.. which breaks this rule 4. No referral code (ref link) spam. [1]
noorman0 must have also consider it a referral link .. I had to check the site tally.so directly to confirm myself that the link is referenced as “tally-link” for sharing the form created on the site. My guess is that a mod must have mistaken it to be a referral link as-well , unless it goes against other rules.
