Sportsbet.io is not accessible for me in the Philippines

I’m a user of this casino/sportsbook, though not very active now. I usually just check it to compare betting lines with the sportsbook I’m currently using.

Today I was surprised to see an HTTP 451 – Unavailable For Legal Reasons message. I did some research and it seems Sportsbet.io is being blocked in certain countries. What confused me is that the message specifically says Japan, but I’m in the Philippines. So maybe my IP is being mistakenly detected as coming from Japan, or there is some routing/geolocation issue.



Can you guys check if Sportsbet.io is still accessible from your side, especially those who are also in the Philippines?

If he is just using it to check betting lines then it doesn't really matter if he uses a VPN.

You are from Philippines, but you are accessing the gambling site with Japanese IP address, which means it will be your VPN location that you set to Japan that you use to access the gambling site.

People that are living in Japan can not access the gambling site. No need to use VPN to try to avoid your location if you want to avoid extra KYC requirements which can be frustrating.

Based on what I’ve seen & my own experience, I haven’t encountered any issues accessing the platform. IMO, what you're experiencing right now could just be a network error, mate. Try changing the DNS, sometimes that works.

Read what other people have posted, you will noticed that they said the issue is VPN. People can access a site with VPN if set to a region that the site does not restrict, but he set it to Japan which ban offshore gambling. That is the reason for the issue that he had.

I hope he is truly from Philippines and not Japan. But some people like to lie about their location, although I am not saying he is lying. He should just be careful if he is accessing the site from a restricted location. His account can be blocked.

Also not all gambling sites accept VPN.

Sportsbet.io with their changes in management months ago expanded their list of restricted countries affecting a lot more users, but the Philippines is not one of those that was.
This error message is not the way a typical regional restriction will show up. I agree with the comment above that it is an issue on your end. You can try switching browsers aswell to see it it opens.

There’s a reason why they left the forum, and regulatory problems are probably part of it. Japan is just one of the restricted countries where access has been blocked.

And even if your IP is mistakenly detected as coming from another country, access can still depend on where the sportsbook is legally allowed to operate. In the Philippines, Sportsbet.io is not locally licensed, so from the regulator’s point of view, it is not authorized to offer gambling services here.

So the restriction itself is not really surprising. The confusing part is why the error specifically identifies Japan when the user is actually in the Philippines.

You can browse about error http 451 online to understand more about it. It is Japanese government than block sportbets so that their people will not be able to access the betting site. That is the reason he is having the issue. It is either he is from Japan or he is using a VPN set to Japan to access sportbets.io.

Well sometimes what causes this type of issues is that you may activated a VPN software on your Device and maybe you used Japan as the preferred country you selected, and you probably have not turned it off before going to that site to compear sports line. I think you should check if your VPN is still on and in japan. But if you check and your VPN is off and the site is still not accessible then you download a VPN app or if you already have one, just  select a country that is accessable to that sports.io site and activate before going to the site. But if after trying this method and it didn't work then ask another person from your country to check it for you.

They are fond of blocking websites that are not registered with PAGCOR. I even made a thread about that before, so this is not surprising at all.

But in my case, my ISP still allows me to access websites that are not registered with PAGCOR. So these blocking announcements mostly affect people who are not very internet-savvy.

For me, it’s not really a big problem because there are still ways to access those sites, although of course that does not change their legal status in the Philippines.

That is exactly what I heard was happening to their country about two months ago. The government was putting blocks on gambling websites so their citizens can't access them. They want to have only sites within their own country used going forward. They see it as not leaking those funds to outside gambling companies and to keep it within their own boundaries. Some sort of regulation for the industry.
Even heard some users were not able to access the kick streaming service and also have thoughts because it is related to gambling.

There is nothing wrong with using VPN with online casinos but don't just assume, verify from the team first, I'm not talking about sportsbet specifically, OP if one casino isn't supporting your location try another.

Everything goes wrong only if the casino already stated that they don't support the use of VPN, some don't even care, and if you find one I suggest you pass KYC verification first before making first deposit.

Don't just verify with the team as chat only might not be a real basis if its allowed or not, what I'm saying is that a chat support could be wrong  but what you need to verify is the TOS that usually is more accurate as its for everyone so if its stated there that its allowed then you can use VPN in accessing the site, but there's a big difference between privacy and bypass, the latter is illegal.

Opera browser has a free built-in VPN and three free locations are the US, EU and Asia, so yeah, it is possible that OP might have toggled the VPN button by mistake that is connected to an IP from Japan.
Does Sportsbet have official mirror links? If there is then OP can try that which will work even from restricted regions.

I know that Sportsbet.io changed management and decided to discontinue their operation in this forum and even added more countries to the list of their restricted territories but that does not mean that the Philippines is among the restricted countries. Just like many people rightly suggested, the problem may be coming from your end. Maybe you can try accessing the website without using VPN if that is what you are using that made your IP address appear as someone in Japan.
