Well, it could depend on the situation. Let's say you have already the Netted Salary which is deducted all of the things you need to sustain your daily life and still have a percentage id recommend to have a small portion let's say for the bitcoin investment or even other form of investment and another set of money for the Emergency funds and this funds possible can make help you up to sustain what you had at least 6 months with no work or even a year. When it comes with the bitcoin still you can sell that investment whenever you wanted if you got shorted because it's an emergency if we are talking about here is life but if not is better to stay in your bitcoin and imagine if you bought it at the bottom of the market.

I also made a mistake by selling all my Bitcoins and depositing fiat currency in the bank. But over time, the price of Bitcoin has increased, but the money I deposited in the bank has lost value over time due to the increasing inflation.
If I had initially kept 30% of my savings in the bank as an emergency fund and the remaining 70% in Bitcoin, then maybe I would not have regretted it at this moment. But now I have kept 70% of my portfolio in Bitcoin and the remaining 30% in fiat as an emergency fund in the bank.

It's good you balance your bitcoin investment and fiat at hand if not, you will sell your bitcoin when your .weds arises. There's a certain level of emergency funds that I will build, it will enable me to continue buying bitcoin overtime without any fiat challenges. Build your emergency funds of three months of your income and continue building your bitcoin investment with DCA overtime. Your emergency fund should be in fiat but is usd has high value over your local fiat currency, you can save it in USD.

Of course, you are right that every investor should have an emergency fund after investing in Bitcoin. Many times, it is seen that when the market goes into a bad period and the market goes into a decline or if there is a necessary financial crisis, many investors sell their Bitcoin investment due to lack of money. Creating a certain amount of emergency fund after investment will also be useful in terms of investment, and if there is a necessary financial crisis, help will also be available there, if fiat currency can be kept.
If there is an emergency fund, when the Bitcoin market goes into a decline, it can be purchased from there, if the investment can be continued using the DCA method, then the fraction of Bitcoin will also continue to increase. However, I think it would be best to keep it in USDT for the emergency fund instead of storing fiat currency for a long time.
Many times, it is seen that fiat currency can decrease due to inflation, so if you keep US dollars, it is very unlikely to decrease and Bitcoin can be purchased quickly when the market decreases.  The most important thing is that every person should take steps when it comes to investing so that they have an emergency fund and can draw on it.

Fiat, Bitcoin and Gold, Maybe that will be the priority by allocating Fiat for living needs as well as Bitcoin and gold as long-term investments in Digital and Physical form and for emergency funds will be allocated little by little.
It wasn't easy when I myself was just working Full in crypto and allocating the funds I made on 2 types of investments and Fiat as the main support needs to live a life.

Every BTC I get, always set aside about 20% remains in BTC and the rest I will allocate for other things.
It's been going on for quite a while and even if it's just a little bit but it's done consistently, Maybe not now but when BTC's ATH is reached again, I'll get a decent profit.

And some of the emergency funds I will probably cut from BTC and only a few percent.

Well, any asset or valueable thing you own can become an "emergency fund", I see no difference.

But personally, I would give up my Bitcoin only as the last possible thing. I would rather take up a small loan to get me through the month than give up my Bitcoin. But then again I have never been in such a situation, thankfully.

Although that kind of situation can happen at any time to anyone on earth, no matter how rich or poor. But having Bitcoin at such a drastic moment might actually save you and your family. That is a nice thought.

In my view, we must ensure that Bitcoin does not, under any circumstances, become a means of exchange in times of hardship, unless those hardships relate to health issues or your home is being repossessed. The best approach for Bitcoin is to use it as a means of intergenerational wealth transfer; in other words, to allow your loved ones to continue holding these Bitcoins without the state intervening to make you pay inheritance tax, which would then erode the capital.

Still, it is better to have safety nets when it comes to your investments. Having emergency funds or savings would surely not be recommended back in the day, most of the people are just going to say that holding cash in the bank or savings is a bad idea because of inflation, and your money is not really earning anything, plus it's losing value because of inflation.
Keeping emergency funds in savings accounts isn’t a bad idea; it’s necessary. Anything would happen with us in real life, and sometimes we may need instant money. Like we may be sick anytime; during sickness you must need some emergency funds. If you hold all of your savings on Bitcoin, then either you have to sell your Bitcoin or have to borrow from someone else.

It doesn’t matter how much percentage to invest or keep as savings. You have to decide based on your financial condition and economy. You may know how much you would need for which emergency. If you have some emergency funds, then you don't have to touch your Bitcoin holdings. Whether inflation matters or not, you may keep your money in fixed deposits that would even reduce inflation effects since you will get some returns, but you may liquidate your funds anytime without loss.

Around 2016 to 17 more or less everyone invested in Bitcoin and then sold it at a lower price. The main reason is that some people lacked complete trust in Bitcoin so after their investment, if Bitcoin price drops they panic sold it while others had to sell simply because they needed the money. That's why I also think that before investing in Bitcoin you should definitely learn money management properly and calculate how much Bitcoin to hold, how much cash to keep, and how much to keep for other investments.

In my opinion, after setting aside the money that is necessary, of whatever remains 50% Bitcoin, 25% cash and emergency fund, and 25% for other investments is best.

Bitcoin has very parabolic S-adoption curve which is also very exponential and the adoption in 2016- 2017 was considerable smaller than the adoption in 2026 and coming years. However, during any year, any market cycle, people will still have emotional panic sells, fomo purchases, it's basically how the market operates and how people as participants in the market do.

An objective look at Bitcoin adoption.

When people invest money in Bitcoin, they will have to learn more about Bitcoin, actually they need to learn about it before investing, then learn about economics, finance too.

Emergency fund was not really something that you are going to use everytime, In my experience It wouldn't really going to get touch for months or year, similar to just saving long term, so maybe it is just better to be put on Bitcoin since it was a long term savings as well.
[...]

Yeah, an emergency fund, as its name suggests, is only to be used in emergency situations, but the thing is, it's more unpredictable and we don't know when it will be needed. Imagine you hold BTC with an average price of $80,000, but then unexpected things happen that make you need your emergency fund, which leads you to sell your BTC at a lower price due to bad market conditions. This has already happened several times in my life. I had 2 losses in this condition, financially and mentally.

The best condition that I have experienced is when I hold BTC as an investment and enough stablecoins as a more stable and liquid asset. In this way, I can still maintain my emergency fund and daily expenses well with stablecoins while still getting exposure to BTC's potential capital gains and interest from stablecoins because I use them for something like flexible earn on exchanges or DeFi.

Also, speaking of emergency funds, I think knowing more about the Financial Pyramid is necessary. An emergency fund is on the third stage (from the base) in the Financial Pyramid.

I'm for 50/50 Because of how I am with my finances.

It is good to diversify your portfolio, leave some cash hanging around, put some into investment and then 50% into bitcoin. It is still good to put more % into bitcoin as it depends on your worth.

One thing that will make me not want Bitcoin as my emergency funds is because from my own perspective emergency funds is something you can lean on any time.

Let's say you had an actual emergency during the bear season and all your Bitcoin is kinda trapped in the market in a value !esser than what you bought at, you can't sell because doing that will be a huge loss for you. This reason is why I won't want to put Bitcoin in that category.

Everyone has their own strategy, and they are free to choose their own strategy if they are comfortable with it, but i think 50/50 is the best, because no one knows when they will need the emergency funds, and as an investor, you need to be prepared before starting a bitcoin, although it depends on your earnings, because if you are not earning enough money that can satisfy your needs then you can not afford to invest in bitcoin, for a person to enjoy his investment without having problem during emergency situations, is to use 50/50 strategy, with 50 going to bitcoin and 50 going for emergency funds and other things. If you are satisfied with the emergency funds, which you rely on for some time, you can increase your method of investing in bitcoin by changing it to 60/40 or 70/30, but as a new person or who want to live comfortably without selling bitcoin to solve your problems, 50/50 is the best solution.

With emergency funds, cash is the king because you can use cash anywhere in your nation. If you want something digital, it's your bank account with which you will be able to make digital bank transfers to pay for something like emergency cost, or withdraw cash to use. If people are careful and want to always have money to use, they can split their emergency funds to both cash and digital fiat currency in bank accounts.

And, just it, don't split their emergency funds to more other things like bitcoin, altcoins and stable coins. These assets are volatile, unpredictable, somehow can be frozen in non custodial wallets like stable coins.

I learned a lot of things when it comes to investing in Bitcoin throughout my financial journey, from the very start I learn it the hardway losing a lot because of the wrong order of my investment, when I was just getting started in cryptocurrency all of my investment back in 2016-2017 was just all Bitcoin because for sure there are some investors that have that kind of mindset, I think a lot of investors believed on Bitcoin, but for sure if you do that you would probably get good profit, Im not saying that it was wrong.

I was just a student back then, putting everything in, and it didn't really matter since I was earning. Because of the volatility through the years of cycles, I learned the hard way, losing a lot because when there was an emergency, or I needed money, I would easily sell my Bitcoin because I needed the money, and I didn't really have bank savings yet for any spending; all my money was just in my custodial wallet back in the day. I fixed my finances and put in a safety net. I realized the importance of having a safety net, investing in the right order, having emergency funds, having health funds, etc.

With that, inflation is just going out of hand; our local currency Dollars is already at 62pesos, increasing its value exchange through out the years, now im already thinking of putting everything on Bitcoin because it is just the same thing, I would lose money because of inflation, I mean in Bitcoin you would probably lose as well, but at the same time you might get profit long term, Emergency fund was not really something that you are going to use everytime, In my experience It wouldn't really going to get touch for months or year, similar to just saving long term, so maybe it is just better to be put on Bitcoin since it was a long term savings as well.

What do you think? If you are going to diversify, what's your strategy?
-100% Savings/Cash
-80.20 Savings/Cash or Bitcoin
-50.50 Savings/Cash or Bitcoin
-Larger part in Bitcoin

Just because your local peso gets highly inflated, it doesn't mean that there is no other way you can keep cash. You can buy USD with your pesos and keep USD as an emergency fund. Yes, USD also gets inflated but for stability, it's still a very good choice and you can always exchange USD to pesos and pay for your emergency situations, unless local exchanges offer such a terrible rates that it doesn't worth to play with two currencies.

Saving everything in Bitcoin only worth to my mind when the price of the coin is so low that it won't go any further, like, when the price was around 60K USD because that's the moment when it's almost always going up if anything or stays the stable but you also have to be lucky and very patient to reach exactly such moment.

When it comes to emergency funds, everyone might have their own preferences.. but for me personally, I don't have a specific emergency fund.. I have some savings, but if something urgent comes up, I can use part of that savings and sell other less-priority assets to cover it, or if needed, I'd rather take a short-term loan.. I wouldn't choose to sell my Bitcoin unless it was really necessary, that's just a last resort for me.. I treat my Bitcoin not as an emergency fund because it's a long-term investment for me, but if necessary, I might sell a portion of it.

When I first got in to Bitcoin in 2014, I had a net worth of literally about £20,000. That is not a lot of money in my country, I was in my mid 20’s though.

I got obsessed with Bitcoin, I put that whole £20,000 in at under $500 and I continued to put all my spare money in until 2017. Obviously it ended up making me quite wealthy but I am still too heavily skewed to Bitcoin. I really need to diversify.

I am actually selling my house at the moment to move to a 0% Capital Gains Tax jurisdiction but that’s another story.

I think being 100% in Bitcoin is irresponsible and that’s coming from somebody who got lucky by pretty much doing that. I don’t think the gains we had back then are there any more. I would suggest a much more diversified portfolio.

Something like this seems reasonable -

  • 25% Bitcoin
  • 25% S&P500
  • Remaining net worth in property and cash

When I hear the term “diversify”, what comes to mind is bitcoin, real estates and real-world businesses.
Real estates and real-world businesses are not liquid to the point that you will diversify your emergency funds into some busineses like that. It is very possible you are confusing emergency funds with other things. Even if it is business, that should not be about discretionary income also which can be less needed than emergency funds.

From the topic which is, using bitcoin as emergency funds, it is wrong for you to use bitcoin as emergency funds except you are not using bitcoin as your investment, if Bitcoin is your investment then using it as your emergency funds is wrong, your emergency funds should be on flat currency and not cryptocurrency,
The reason why I'm saying this is because Bitcoin is highly volatile in nature meaning that it can increase in price and it can also reduce in price so if you have an emergency funds on Bitcoin there's every probability that when you have emergency the high amount you kept or saved may reduce and become small amount because of the volatile of Bitcoin.
Always keep your emergency funds on your bank account.

An emergency fund is money that we can access easily and quickly whenever we need it. However, I wouldn’t keep it in just one form, for example, only in a bank account, in a bitcoin investment fund, in gold, or simply as cash in a safe.I think it is better to have several different options. This helps diversify the risks. There should be funds that you can access whenever necessary, as well as funds that you prefer not to touch until certain favorable conditions arise. But when something happens in life and, God forbid, you suddenly need all of your savings, you are unlikely to spend much time thinking about whether a particular fund is untouchable or not, or whether now is the right time to sell your bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a profitable platform for investment. The investor must have a good idea for it. There are many investors who only consider the issue of profit, but if the investment is made without understanding it well, then it can also be lost. It is never safe to invest all the investor's assets in Bitcoin alone. When investing in Bitcoin, an investor will be safest if he considers the issue of long-term Bitcoin holding, especially if he uses the DCA method. The investor must keep an emergency fund of at least 4 to 6 months. The investor must balance his investment, that is, if his entire investment is not invested in one asset, then it will be good decision if the asset diversification is done. I am never willing to put the entire asset in one investment. Although cash savings are not very effective these days, I will still be in favor of investing 50% cash savings and 50% in Bitcoin. This will also reduce the risk of investment.

Don't overcomplicate it with 50/50 or 80/20 percentages of your total net worth. Instead, do this:

1. Calculate 3 to 6 months of absolute basic living expenses in fiat.
2. Stick it in a boring-ass, easily accessible bank account.
3. Let inflation melt it a few percent a year.

Then, dump every single cent after that into Bitcoin for the long term.
