No matter how crazy I become about investing in Bitcoin I would never invest my 100% in Bitcoin because it might me make to sell at the wrong time just to attend to the emergency, I consider my Bitcoin investments as a future funds not emergency funds. And I hope newbies aren't also holding Bitcoin for emergency because that would be very wrong, I have seen investors that only invest half of their finances in Bitcoin because to them Bitcoin doesn't always give you back what you put in it and for me I have at least 20% of my finances for emergencies.
Emergency funds should be kept separate. Emergency funds and Bitcoin investments are definitely different, Bitcoin investments should be held for the long term, but emergency funds will be needed at any time, and if you depend on your investments in that emergency, then it can be a loss for you. And besides, emergency funds should be kept in a state of easy access, in this case, if you have to sell something and then get that emergency fund, then it is a different and extra problem. And so I always prefer to keep the emergency fund in cash, so that it is very easy to reach in case of emergency, and I will not keep it in the bank, rather I prefer to keep it in the locker at home, that is the easiest. But the main thing is that emergency funds should be kept separate, and in terms of investments, you should invest such an amount of money that you can hold without any problem.

Investing in Bitcoin is good but does not require you to put all your money in Bitcoin. Even though we feel keeping money in the bank can be affected by inflation, but not emergency fund. Bitcoin should be invested in with the money you don't need to use immediately, which means you should use your discretionary income, and fund meant for other immediate needs should not be invested in Bitcoin, but should be kept aside for emergency use. Some people actually invest in Bitcoin with all your fund, doing such a thing is not a good decision because it will make you to even sell your Bitcoin when you feel you have emergency.
Bitcoin should be invested through discretionary income but still we should know that Bitcoin and emergency fund are different things so keeping Bitcoin as an emergency fund is a misconception. Basically many people invest in Bitcoin patiently for a long term with the aim of earning profit or increasing wealth but on the other hand emergency fund is created to deal with financial turmoil and uncertainty.

Therefore it is clear that Bitcoin should not be kept as an emergency fund because this technological asset fluctuates very quickly, there is a high risk of losing capital. I think every Bitcoin investor should form an emergency fund so that they do not have to sell Bitcoin in case of emergency so at this stage it is clear that everyone should know about safe saving methods to form an emergency fund.

I can't say much about your level of discipline, but keeping large amount of cash at home is one of the fastest ways to spend your money, especially on irrelevant things. Even if you do not want to save your emergency fund in bitcoin, you can store them digitally in fiat. When the need arises, you withdraw cash or make transfers to the recipient.

I sense that some persons are confusing emergency funds with funds kept aside for everyday use. Some people do not get to use their emergency funds for the duration of time they kept it for, sometimes they end up not having need for the funds at all. That is why some people will rather choose to invest such money to generate more interests or returns.

However for Bitcoin, it is risky having your emergency funds in bitcoin because of volatility, and emergencies might come at the wrong timing. Having your money in fiat too might also be a bad decision because if kept idle for too long, it will lose its value due to inflation.

What I do is, I split my emergency funds into two parts. Some in fiat and some in bitcoin. Most times, I end up not using my bitcoin savings (emergency funds).

It's never been a good idea because this will cause big losses. Peoples those are having no enough sources and they struggle they never do this because this never works for them due to nature of bitcoin which is highly volatile and can give them big lost while in many cases when peoples accumulate this for long time its needs some good time to sell and have benefit but in emergency things are never been under control and price is also never been easily manageable which create problems and also big loses. Before investing, always have all your things on a good level and then start investing because this works better and also gives good profit. Never rely on this for any emergency, it never works in these cases.

Bitcoin cannot be used as an emergency fund, and doing that means putting your Bitcoin investment into risk. Emergency can happen at any moment, and putting your emergency fund into Bitcoin means you can sell your Bitcoin asset when ever emergency comes
There is always a saying we should use discretionary income, and what you can afford to loose if you really have interest in Bitcoin investing, but I noticed some investors still ignore this fact that investing in Bitcoin does not encourage the use of emergency income.
There is something that happen when you put money into Bitcoin as an investment, you should bear in mind that Bitcoin is a volatile asset, and can fluctuate in price within a short period of time, and therefore what ever money that is in Bitcoin has the possibility of either going  down more especially during bear market.

You don’t just go into bitcoin investment fully without considering some factors, discretionary income is what we should push into bitcoin investment especially when we are DCAing and aiming for the long term. Then our emergency funds follows up because without it we will keep going for our investment and that not a good approach and it was really nice your experience didn’t just go for free during those years you learn from your mistakes and notice the importance of emergency funds.
Your point is valid there’s so many people that doesn’t considering the factors of investments before they introduce themselves into the investments. Why most of them don’t think about the emergency funds is that, they all think once they invest in Bitcoin with some day's they will able to get profits. Which is a wrong approach, investment deserves some times is not you can just rush into the bitcoin investments just because of quick profits.

Rushing into the market is what lead most of people to lose much of their money while investing in the Bitcoin, base on they refused to considering the most importance factors of the Bitcoin investment

That is why it's good for beginners to take note of the basics so they'll have an understanding of what they're going into, although it is expected that people should be aware of the discretionary funds cause that's what's used for an investment whether Bitcoin or not, moreover it's a long term asset so they should know that they money for expenses and emergency funds shouldn't be used for that.

Anyone who rush into what is not fully understood would end up with more losses cause at some points ignorance would make the person make lots of mistakes that would've beem avoid if it was understood.

I still need to spend some fiat regularly, so my strategy would be something like 80% Bitcoin and 20% everything else.

That 20% is almost like a hot wallet because I sometimes dabble in stablecoins, altcoins, skin trading, etc.

That 80% part might sound risky, but it shouldn't be if I can stack it up every week or month.

You are right. Bitcoin should never be used as an emergency fund. Investing in bitcoin should be done to ensure financial security for life after a long time. Bitcoin has been shown to give a lot of profit after a long time, and currently the world's financial situation is deteriorating. Inflation cannot be eliminated in any way.  there are very few alternatives assets  to bitcoin to maintain the value in the future. If anyone has the financial capacity, they can invest in bitcoin being a long time holder. It is not right that someone should completely stay away from Bitcoin investment just because they have low income or limited resources. The real question is whether they have discretionary income after necessary expenses. And if they are thinking of starting investment after perfecting their financial situation, they may have to wait for a long time without investing. Better planning is to start investing in bitcoin with a small amount. There is no rule that a newcomer cannot buy sats until a complete emergency fund of 3 to 6 months is created. If there is discretionary income, a backup fund and Bitcoin accumulation can be built in parallel. Suppose there is $100 discretionary income per month. Depending on the situation, you can start with $40 Bitcoin and $40 backup, or $50 for  bitcion or back up $50. If the backup is stronger, you can increase the allocation towards Bitcoin later. So It is more important to start investing in Bitcoin earlier .

But the main thing is that emergency funds should be kept separate, and in terms of investments, you should invest such an amount of money that you can hold without any problem.

There are also some scenarios where investors choose to separate and scatter their emergency funds in different places such as using some to buy bitcoin, using some to buy land of any valuable property, and then keeping some in fiat at hand or at bank. But the truth is that, if an investor is keeping emergency funds in form of a bitcoin then the investor should not classify it as part of his bitcoin investment, the emergency funds in bitcoin should be considered different from his main bitcoin investments. The reason they do keep emergency funds in such valuable places is to enable it to add more value, but we still know that bitcoin can reduce in value and that’s why I said it’s better to scatter it across different places and still have some in fiat so that if the one kept in the form of bitcoin has reduced in value the investor can easily make use of the emergency funds he have as fiat.

I wont guarantee this method you mentioned because someone that is not well disciplined with cash at home, can even run out of funds before any emergency will come. I said so because someone that is not well disciplined will get tempted to make use of that money since they see it everyday and even forget that money was actually kept for something important. It is actually good to keep the money where it is accessible but keeping it at home, will result for use in other things even before the emergency and in this case, I might prefer it been in the bank, since it helps keep our mind away from that funds.

I completely agree with you. Touching Bitcoin investment before the right time would be the last resource among all. I would prefer working for longer, doing side hustles or cutting expenses, just to not touch the BTC investment when in need of money for emergency reasons. In every cases, emergency funds should never be stored in BTC currency, because as the name says, they are intended to be cashed out at anytime, suddenly, when you least expect.

Yes, that's the idea behind creating a separate account where you only deposit stablecoins, like USDT or USDC, for an emergency fund. It's the best approach. However, not everyone does it that way. I know it's difficult to meet your BTC DCA targets while also building a separate emergency fund, but even if it's done little by little, it's worth setting up.

I think it can be tough while you're doing it, but it will pay off, especially if you stick to it with discipline. In the end, the only ones who will benefit are us and our families.

Stable coins can sound stable and good but there are several risks with stable coins.

PSA: Most Stablecoins Can Be Frozen, Even in Your Own Wallets.
Stablecoins and blacklists.
Can stablecoins be frozen by issuers?
Stablecoins: a deep dive into valuation and depegging.

With these risks: Freeze, Depeg, I believe that stablecoins are not much better than bitcoin for emergency fund. With me, my emergency fund is in cash or bank account with fiat currency there: no gold, no bitcoin, no stablecoins, no shitcoins.

What do you think? If you are going to diversify, what's your strategy?
-100% Savings/Cash
-80.20 Savings/Cash or Bitcoin
-50.50 Savings/Cash or Bitcoin
-Larger part in Bitcoin
I can see that you are very much confused OP. Let me give you some easy and practical advice. Lets say you make $100 per month. Use 50$ for paying your monthly bills, 30 usd for investments and $20 for savings. If you follow this rule consistently, you can become financially stable over time.

Now regarding investments, you can further diversify your portfolio. I have been a Bitcoin lover since 2014–15 and have been following Bitcoin closely since then. I have frequently accumulated Bitcoin at regular intervals regardless of the price. I have also sold Bitcoin when needed to reward myself and I currently follow the same accumulation strategy.

I know what Bitcoin is capable of and if the demand to accumulate it increases, the price will go up. Hence its better to buy Bitcoin whenever you have spare cash regardless of the current price. Think long term and avoid getting distracted by short-term price fluctuations. You will definitely make a good profit.

In my opinion I think putting all your money into bitcoin investment without having an emergency fund is a bad idea. I understand that some people will say instead of the money just lying in the bank with no profit and might even loss its value overtime, based on inflation,  but we should not also forget that emergency don't announce itself, it just comes up unexpectedly, that's why it's called an emergency.
I believe you should investment with your discretionary income and also don't forget to save your emergency funds, so you don't have to sell your bitcoin when you have an emergency. This is just my opinion and I am open to other opinions too.

For example, the $20 saving is used for building up an emergency fund that certainly does not need to be loaded up forever. Your emergency fund can be defined by you to an amount with which you feel safe enough for any emergency in the future.

Then you can add $20 every month to that emergency fund until it reaches the amount you want to have. After that, you will have two options: continue to increase the emergency fund, or stop doing that and using $20 monthly for your Bitcoin investment fund. This means at that time, you will have $70 monthly for accumulating bitcoin.

It's a safe way to build up your bitcoin portfolio while don't skip the emergency fund.

Don't do oppositely like: building up your bitcoin portfolio first, then after it hits the amount you want, you will build up your emergency fund. This approach is risky because without an emergency fund at start, you will have risk of selling your bitcoin in bear market.

Exactly. For whatever reason Bitcoin really isn't suitable as an emergency fund because it's highly volatile meaning its price can drop drastically in a short time especially during a bearish market. So if an emergency happens suddenly you might be forced to sell Bitcoin at a loss putting the Bitcoins you've accumulated at risk of loss.

So you really need to prepare ahead of time, I mean an emergency fund should be kept in a stable and easily accessible form. If fiat money causes you losses, then choose a stable asset like gold. Basically, Bitcoin is more suitable as a long-term investment that's ready to handle sudden fluctuations. By keeping them separate you can still invest in Bitcoin without jeopardizing your financial safety in an emergency.

Why you won't even keep your investment and emergency monies apart is beyond me. I don't see why you would keep the two of them together when the objective is to hold for a very long time; that is one of the worst blunders. The same faith that will support your emergency savings will also support your bitcoin, and since you will want to utilize them whenever you want, I believe your emergency funds should be fiat. Because that is one of the faults people don't understand, they won't make it, so that dependency will decrease. And I agree with you because emergency funds are very important as an investor. This is another reason why I feel we need to understand Bitcoin before we start, there are certain things that, if we understand them, then there won't be any challenge in deciding what to keep as an emergency fund.

Emergency fund was not really something that you are going to use every time, In my experience It wouldn't really going to get touch for months or year, similar to just saving long term, so maybe it is just better to be put on Bitcoin since it was a long term savings as well.
The main purpose of emergency fund is not to make profit, but to provide quick liquid cash support in times of danger. Even though Bitcoin gives good returns in the long term, the market is always volatile. Suppose, you suddenly have a big emergency, and at that time there is a bear market and the price of Bitcoin is very down. Then you will be forced to sell your portfolio at a big loss. So even if you are afraid of inflation, it is not right to see emergency fund as an investment.

Quote
What do you think? If you are going to diversify, what's your strategy?
I personally favor a heavy bias towards crypto, but only after setting aside a completely separate emergency fund. In my opinion, you should keep at least 3 to 6 months of daily expenses in the bank as fiat or cash. After creating this basic safety net, you can invest a larger part of the additional capital you have in Bitcoin, In this way even if the value of cash decreases slightly due to inflation, it is possible to easily cover it with Bitcoin's long term profit. Also having cash on hand in times of danger, there will be no need to sell Bitcoin at a loss.

This things you mentioned are really important to take into consideration as an investor, most beginners or investors make lot of mistakes during their investment journey since they fail to put all this into consideration. What they were just interested in is just to invest with what they currently have without minding if it discretionary funds or not and also without having an emergency funds too. They are completely just lost on the necessary precautions they need to take before investing and I believe it because they lacked the basic knowledge of bitcoin.
