We're trying to improve decentralized git with a Radicle rebuild called Cradicle

I proposed and helped fund a project to improve upon Radicle, a decentralized GitHub alternative. A developer called Andrew K took the project and decided to do it as a full rebuild of Radicle in C (the original used Rust).

I was surprised how quickly the proposal got interest and donations originally (called Project Zymogen at the time). Oddly, this interest seems to have faded after the actual release, with no one wanting to actually use the software.

I'm not a git user or programmer myself, so it's hard for me to gauge why people aren't interested in using Cradicle. I'm not sure if something's wrong with it, or it's just waiting for people to try it and then it will suddenly take off, or what.

I'd appreciate any feedback from git users or Radicle users, even just telling me why you don't want to try the project if you don't. You can also post your feedback in the dev discussion thread I linked above if you want.

This comic is anti-intellectual drivel written by authoritarian Randall Munroe, a former NASA guy who wants people to keep using bad standards instead of creating good ones.

I guess Satoshi shouldn't have created Bitcoin in your eyes, because there were already a bunch of currencies.

Regardless, it's not really relevant here, since Radicle is compatible with git and Cradicle is currently supposed to be compatible with Radicle (only reason that would change is if it turns out adding our improvements breaks Radicle irreparably)

Edit - also just noticed you linked to ngit. That's not really a decentralization-focused project, it's a scam designed to make money, which is why I proposed and helped fund Cradicle instead of contributing to it. The ngit project also started long after Radicle, not before, so if your xkcd strip applied here, it would apply to ngit more than Radicle/Cradicle (unless, like I said before, we find Radicle is unable to handle Cradicle's changes, requiring a new "competing standard" instead)

I understand my reply is not as polite as one should usually be with people providing feedback that was asked for, but the feedback included 0 words and just an xkcd strip I'm extremely tired of seeing, so I stand by this response.

No, there were a bunch of fiat currencies aka non-technological standards only competing politically between themselves, no currency was commodity-backed anymore, and e-gold had just been shut down by the state.

Non-technology does not compete with technology.

And there have been a bunch of centralized github alternatives, none truly P2P like bittorrent.

And there have been a bunch of bad USB charging standards, no phones that charge using a 3.5mm cable.

Randall Munroe is blinded by his authoritarianism, it's easy to go on all day listing times when all the existing standards sucked and lacked the purpose of the new one.
