Politicians are desperate for power, that is why they go as far as doing everything to suppress their opposition. Politics is a dirty game right from time and it is the structure of our government that gave rise to Politics becoming a do or die affair. In a developed country you can't see any candidate that will come openly to say that they will win an election against all odds or that it is their turn to be in power. If the cost of governance is reduced, Politics will stop being a do or die affair because many Politicians will lose interest because there's nothing to benefit after all their expenditures during campaign. Imagine a governorship presidential ticket selling as costly as 50 million Naira, do you expect the candidates to lose the election and lose the 50 million naira and other expenses they made in the course of campaigning for their election. If the government is structured in a way that their will be transparency on how the countries treasury is being used, and there is no avenue of manipulation and looting of public funds, politicians won't go extreme to get elected. But since the government has turned into a lucrative business where anyone that enters into a public office already sees it as a way to enrich themselves and their families, why won't it become a do or die.

I mean, those old people who are above 60-75 years of age, shouldn't have any business to do with running from top leadership positions because they have been in politics too long and have become corrupted by the system no matter what they tell you.

If the political landscape of this country must change, then the oldies must make room for the younger generations of leaders to rule, while the oldies act more as guides or step away from the political scene because they are the ones who instigate god-fatherism and want to rule by fire or by force before they die as an ambition that may topple the progress of this country in a bad way.

Many citizens don't seems to understand or should I even say some voters are also campaigning for their own personal interests as well? Nigerian electoral system has become so bad that most politicians are already accustomed to manipulating elections results and they threaten INEC officers who wants to discharge their duties diligently. Those who hijack ballot boxes are people that knows that they can't win under a free and fair elections where voters will cast their votes for the right candidate. Though I think that snatching of ballot boxes has reduced, they only need to bribe voters to vote for them and they get what they want. It's very sad that the conscience of many Nigerians has been sold, they prefer slavery rather than a leader who can work diligently and deliver the benefits of governance to the people. I also think that it will be difficult to change Nigeria with the democratic leadership style we practice. Maybe another form of leadership could work but implementing it won't be easy process. Corruption is just everywhere in the country even among the general public so it will be difficult unless maybe enforced forcefully.

The politics of most African countries are always a situation of the winner takes it all as you mentioned. This pattern of politics has always been the pattern and they deceive us every day with the promises of improved electoral acts during each election period. The minister of FCT Nyesom Wike clearly said in his recent interview that his reason why he will ensure that Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar does not win the forthcoming election is because he is aware that they will come after him if they win. If it's not for selfish interests, many crises that happens during election won't be happening.

This statement shows how desperate they can be in order to close their shits. They understand this game more than the citizens do and the only approach is contributing your part by casting your votes to the right place. There's a level of lead an opponent will have and no body can be able to rig the election because it will be too obvious that it was rigged.
