Problem with images

i used imgbb for years without issue now it fails to work on the forums quite often. talkimg fails a lot if i use "full" but seems to work consistently if I use "medium" perhaps the files are just too large.

The forum also displays the images from ImgBB, but sometimes the images do not load, and even visiting the image link shows the image does not exist. It often happens to me when I use my office internet. It sometimes works well; sometimes it does not work. So, It's not the problem with Bitcointalk or ImgBB, but the internet connection that he is using.

Are you sure it's because of the internet provider?
Because in all my old posts where I used ImgBB as Image host, all the images are currently showing invalid images in the image proxy. Not only just case of the ImgBB, it is also same for the PostImage host.
Until now I've been thought that maybe because using the free service, they remove old uploaded images from storage and that's why they do this show.

That was your problem, because imgbb and some other hosting services are not working correctly with bitcointalk forum.
Most members already switched to two services created by guys from this forum, one is Bitlist and other is Talkimg.
It's perfectly fine to use and bookmark both of them:

Those two are most important image upload services that I use for my posts, I use both Bitlist.co image upload feature and Talkimg and both of those work pretty well. Since both of those are created by reputed members of the forum and that's why the users who use those services will never face any image proxy error issue whatsoever.

These days I mostly use Bitlist image upload feature because I usually visit the site as there're multiple useful tools available at that site for crypto currency community. But, when I still use Talkimg as well and I would say that both of those are the top working services for the members of this forum and of other forums.

When I said the issue is with the ISP, I didn't mean the internet connection speed.
The problem is something else. Even if your internet connection speed is fine, sometimes the images just won't load for you. Imgbb shows the photo does not exist when you visit the direct image link. I don't know what the problem is, but I am not alone who faced this problem. I remember once holydarkness said that he got similar issues, and he probably said ImgBB hates him. He suggested scam victims use talkimg instead.

Apart from Talkimg and Bitlist image hosting, we have another image hosting site, which is hostmeme.com; it was developed by Little Mouse. But not many people know about this. Probably because he didn't promoted it.

According to my research.
When an image is uploaded to Imgur, imgbb, and other platforms, it will either fail to load or display an invalid image or proxy invalid image because the image host is not built to dependably work with this forum image proxy, which routes external images through its proxy to protect users privacy or prevent IP address exposure.

I uploaded my images to https://talkimg.com/ and I think it does the trick. So far so good. I also noticed that my browser started to cache these images, while previously when I used IMGBB browser loaded image on every load. That may be good sign that it will work. Thanks!

You already got the answer you sought there. I believe it's best you locked the thread or asked mod to help you do that if you don't know how. Leaving it open encourages spamming.

I understand, mate, and I was saying the same thing. Even with the high internet speed, the images sometimes doesn't work. The forum already has a max limit for the images. If your image size is more than 2.5 MB, it won't display on the forum doesn't matter where you upload it. Since you were talking about the large images, I assume the issue was your actual image size, which most image hosting sites do not resize except for talkimg and probably bitlist.

But I have a different issue. Even with high internet speed and small image size, it still does not work for me. I figured out it is because of my internet provider. If I switch the internet, it works well for me.

I think it's only for me, and with some other people who probably have similar restrictions.
I think ImgBB blocks some internet providers or some specific IP addresses due to massive requests or something. I don't know how their restrictions work. But even if I visit the direct link of the image, it shows that this page does not exist. At the same time, if someone else visits the same page, ImgBB shows the image to them. Isn't it strange?

At first, I thought there was a problem with the images people were uploading to ImgBB. I started asking them to upload again. Then someone else said that ImgBB probably hates you. The image is there, but you cannot see or access it.

It depends on preferences mostly. Ever since talkiMG was added specifically for this forum I just started using it and I haven't really considered others. In cases where I have to upload large images like Ann thread I mostly end up using talkiMG unless I'm looking for an album.

That aside I've seen imbb not display images just because the size is really big during the upload but in contrast talkiMG doesn't allow the upload at all.

No, it’s not. It’s only works sometimes or not at all , and even “dead” image links don’t guarantee to show an image with the link.

I posted this two days ago, images never loaded and links did not show images. A few days prior on a different post only half the images showed immediately and half gave a red error, but maybe an hour later worked ..so it’s a complete waste of time / gamble

Imgur didn’t block the site, they stopped supporting forum imagelinks (BBcode) altogether (at least via their app)..it has become almost entirely utterly useless, feature by feature has stopped working/removed over the years (most recently “do you want to keep audio” on videos , click yes, what a surprise no sound..whomever runs that company is a fn idiot).

Edit : I want to say PowerGlove proposed or considered hosting images locally somehow or proposed some sort of superior alternative to all these 3rd party hosts . I’ve been meaning to reach out to my buddy PG just to say hello anyhow but will ask what was discussed (out of my own curiosity if anything). Maybe someone here knows already tho that died on the vine 🤷‍♂️ I’ve been Mia for a while

Issues happen sometimes but imgur.com made their proxy ban against this forum so there is no reason to continue with that site.
After months of observing, theymos also took action for the forum.
Poll on solving the imgur issue.

It looks like imgur is no longer blocking the image proxy. I didn't change anything on the forum's end, so imgur must've loosened up their limits. I guess it's not necessary to convert img images into links as long as imgur keeps working. But to prevent this from happening again, you'll get an error if you try to embed imgur images in posts from now on.

I'd like to create a page which recommends services for hosting forum images, and mention this in the error message you get when you try to use imgur. Other than TalkImg, which ones are good?

If anyone has threads with many images, using these scripts can be helpful and time saving.

Yeah, you remember right. I had a pretty nice proposal at one point for this (it basically amounted to introducing a new BBCode tag [cai] that would cause a caching first-party resolver to conditionally reach out to one of a few redundant user-run storage nodes; at the time, I wanted to pursue this design to comprehensively fix things like the Imgur issue by migrating Imgur [img] tags to content-equivalent [cai] tags; beyond the issue that inspired it, though, I think that it would have ended up being a nice way in general for the forum to long-term handle its own image-hosting and image-preservation needs).

But, talking/thinking about my old forum-improvement ideas tends to get me down... so I try to avoid it: I'm no longer on staff, and I'm just kind of floating around at this point and trying to see if there's still some way for me to add value here (I mean, that's harder than it seems: I could just keep cranking out patches like I used to, but, one of the main reasons I ended up throwing in the towel was how unhappy that task was making me; it's really frustrating trying to improve a piece of software that has non-trivially diverged from the source code that you're able to inspect, execute, and internalize; in a recent PM I likened it to trying to come up with ways to improve some version of Bitcoin Core but you have to work with a source tree that only corresponds to some distant version of Bitcoin-Qt: I don't see that as a sustainable way to make progress, especially not for someone like me whose happiness level is very directly tied to how deeply they're able to understand whatever artifact it is that they're working on; I do still have a small flicker of hope that theymos and I might eventually find some role for me that makes sense to both of us).

I have around 340,000 of the forum's images already scraped on the Talksearch server, with more being added daily. A quarter of my copy of the forum's posts has been searched so far, but there also a good amount of images that have been lost forever.

All images are stored on my CDN and labelled with poster metadata.

Hopefully it will be able to make it easier for people to find their images again, without having to use userscripts to download them from 10 different hosts.

I have been using this link or address https://imgbb.com/ to upload images but the issue with it is that sometimes it will display the image and the next it will start showing error like there was no image in the first place. I gave been using it for a long time without facing such glitch (if I should call it that), always going off and on like something I did that wasn't right was included while uploading the image, started noticing this error problem since this year, it became worse this year so I can't seem to understand why that is happening.  Which is the best to use while uploading images in the Forum?
