Fake customer support groups for wallets

During recent ColdCard incident I made a little research and found that there were many scam Telegram groups that misrepresent themselves as official customer support groups.
The victims are usually redirected to scam websites where they are asked for seed words or personal information.

After I found about those scam ColdCard TG groups, I decided to look around more and find if there are more similar groups that target other wallet users. To my surprise I found very large number of similar groups that target users of almost every wallet.

I plan to update this topic by adding more wallets and scam groups.

This is the list of scam groups that try to pose as official wallet groups.

Thank you Coupable for your initiative for finding new scam Telegram groups! I will add the groups you mentioned to the main list.

Good initiative. Fighting these channels should be done by Telegram by placing a tag (unofficial channel) on all these services. It would be foolish to believe the technical team of a channel like LedgerWalletOfficialHQ, but some do.

Good resource. One thing worth adding — some of these groups don't just phish for seed words, they also redirect to fake "wallet recovery" sites that install malware.

For hardware wallet users who value privacy: none of the major hardware wallet manufacturers (Ledger, Trezor, Coldcard) have official Telegram support. If someone contacts you claiming to be support — it's a scam, period.

I get your attempt to warn people but.  At this point I am pretty sure no Telegram user has ever NOT been contacted by at least one of these scammers, at least once in their life time.  It is such a popular thing their Application should probably ask you to agree at least five times that you understand they are scammers before you can even register.

They target desperate consumers like the victims of the latest ColdCard incident who believe they have no chance of recovering their lost money. Users may not realize they have been scammed when they give their seed of an empty wallet, but they will come here to complain when they discover that their wallet was drained entirely after the first deposit. There are stories that you just can't imagine to occur, but they did happen.

Telegram is a haven for scammers.
I do not use Telegram regularly because of this. If you search for a service name and it is kind of popular, you will find dozens of results, and you will be totally confused about which one is actually real and which one is fake. Some groups and channels even add bot members to their group/channel and keep changing their name to pretend to be an official channel/group of different services.

Discord is also turning into a haven for this type of scammer. They pretend to be support members and send private messages to people who join the Discord server. I am sure they are making a lot of money doing this shitty thing.

Like previously added wallets, Electrum.doesn't have official Telegram group so I believe it wojld be good idea to consider all Telegram groups that offer customer support for Electrum as unsafe.

Keep on busting them, thanks OP. And it's nice to see that there will be a collate information about these fake wallet recovery groups in telegram. But isn't it that it's also easy to change the name of the group at the group admin's will? AFAIK, Ledger has put a warning message on their official website to avoid these attacks they are not asking for the recovery phrase. I hope that the others would also do the same.

One thing users of bitcoin should know that, they should not go to telegram for solution in anything. Even though we know the person account in telegram, we should not send more to the person unless you guys were discussing here in the forum and decided to go to telegram to do the transaction instantly. If not please we should not.

There was a time I wanted to know how to use lightening network and click the support team in one of the popular hardware wallet link a trusted user here sent to me, and as I dropped the chat that I want to use lightening network with my wallet, guys the chats I received from different users where about 7 and I deleted all of them. We have to be careful and know that general discussion of wallet groups full with scammers.

I agree with you. Most scammers wait for beginners who are having trouble and post about their issue publicly in one of the official groups for these wallets. They then message them pretending to be technical support and try to target them with phishing sites and similar scams through impersonated accounts.

Telegram is full of scammers, and anyone who uses it, or Discord specifically, and joins groups or communities related to crypto should understand that they may be targeted and that strangers may contact them in an attempt to deceive them.

What the OP mentioned does not even represent a drop in the ocean of scams that exist on Telegram, so no one should trust strangers. Always verify their identity and do the necessary research before making any decision or opening any link.

Found some groups that are posing as Trust wallet official support. To more experienced users it is obvious that these arenot official groups but newbies could easily be scammed into losing funds or giving personal information.

Found a few telegram groups that are trying to pass as official Blue wallet and Blockstream wallet support groups. Beware of these scams if you need help with your wallet. Always visit official website and use their legitimate channels.
