Comparing between these one and with script from @PX-Z are more scary to these one. I would rather use the script rather than visit to some random site.

It's described by OP as only for reading-mode, no login, nothing else but I agree with you that visiting any strange site is quite scary with me.

In addition, if the purpose is only reading-mode, I can read the forum comfortably on phones, tablets without any extra tools like user scripts or extensions or applications. I only feel uncomfortable on mobile devices when I am typing my posts.

Why do I need that while I can visit, read only, or login my account, read and post on both mobile devices and computers or laptops easily and comfortably.

These "mobile" versions of the simple machines forum were made for another era of computing.
They're horribly looking and don't have any of the functions a forum should have other than being read only.
It's true that the current forum does not in fact have good readability and navigability on a mobile. You basically have to bulge your eyes out to read a full post and might hit a button or two wrong every now and then.

I use the forums on a mobile phone without issue - have not come across anything that I can not do on mobile that I can do on pc.

The only issue is how small it can be to read but I usually view in landscape and that makes it super easy.

I use in portrait. Never got used to landscape mode, it just makes smartphone uncomfortable to use. Never had issue with font size, you can increase font size anyhow.

Also, I developed a mobile-friendly skin, which works entirely client side.

I see your point there. There is no doubts that OP isn't new here. But making new account just for website announcement doesn't necessarily means that he have some bad intentions. I guess there is quite many people who made separate new account just for his website or service.

I'm just trying to find reasons why he announced website in they way as he did. Maybe you or me wouldn't announce project in the same way like OP, but some people may do it. Though yeah, using main account and making more detailed description would make less doubts.

Nobody doesn't asks you to enter your login data on this website because there is no login option there as you can see. It was made for reading only, if you want to post, read orsend PM's and etc you still would have to go to Bitcointalk.org. So, it's more or less useless thing, especially when we have mobile friendly user scripts for Bitcointalk.

Does really need it? If we can’t make a post from there since we would never log in there, it doesn’t make sense to visit your website in just view mode. At the end of the day we have to come back to the forum to make a post and reply. I have visited your website; it does not look good to me.

I feel more comfortable with the current forum version. I don’t have any problems either with reading threads or making a post. I am used to the current version and always think this is the mobile version for me. I will discourage everyone from even visiting those sites; it is not necessary.

The number of extensions we have across the forum is countless and allot of them are interesting to use buh like I have always said in old threads like this, even if I decide to surf on mobile I'll always prefer the forum in desktop mode. Besides I prefer something original over sacrificing my privacy for aesthetics.

Fun fact for those on mobile especially android you can actually add the forum like an app on home screen works just fine like a web app... It's gonna use your default browser as the anchor same with other tools like bitlist and talkiMG.

I get what you are trying to do, and Bitcointalk definitely needs a decent mobile version. The current setup is a pain in the ass to use on a phone, especially since the new forum software failed.

But I don't think people here will use this.
Nobody trusts third-party proxies, especially from someone without a high reputation. People won't put their data or traffic through an unofficial site. The fact that it is read-only is actually a good thing because of that trust issue, but without login functionality, it isn't very useful. Most people will just stick to the main site.

As someone who prefers browsing bitcointalk on mobile, I should like this but that's not really how it turned out for me. It feels bit more complicated compared to just using the regular bitcointalk.org website on mobile.

Well, maybe that's just how it feels when you're using it for the first time and still getting used to it.

My question is, why would I use this when bitcointalk.org already works fine on mobile?

Not allowing login does not mean that the site does not aim to collect information.
I had to spend time analyzing it more thoroughly.

Furthermore, I'm looking at this from a more medium/long-term perspective.

If the domain remains active and continues to be referenced by the forum (as in this thread), the site will rank better in search engines.
This would allow, in a few months, for discreet changes to other types of activities, rather than just "reading bitcointalk".

I might be being unfair, but since someone decided to create an account to inform people about the existence of this site, I find it hard to believe that it's "nice."

It could also be used for exposure and doesn't care about merits. Using "Bitcointalk" name for exposure to gain more people or a larger user base-line. We don't know when those sites can share malicious activity. Safe now doesn't mean gonna to be safe forever, bad things could happen in the future.


We're already too paranoid about scripts and extensions. Even some creators from the famous user bitcointalk already shared the source code. But still, some users are still too paranoid to use the script/extension. I don't blame them either, just like @LFC_Bitcoin says, becoming a paranoid person can save you.

Agree, safe now doen't mean safe in the future.
They could change it or maybe sharing malicious activity once get a good user base line or visitor.

I don't use mobile to check the forum for a while now.
Even if I do, I do not log in using my mobile device. There are people who have already made a userscript for the official Bitcointalk forum. If someone wants to use those, they can check the threads below.
