But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not?

For me there is a reason that ads are coming up because if it were not to boost business for the casinos then the ads will not be up. It is a matter of no smoke without fire. They advertise names of casinos and give you comparative benefit and reasons to sign up to particular casino like referral benefit and bonuses. They don't exist in vacuum and to say they are influencing gamblers is fallacious.

Except those companies running ads for casinos are not paying tax to government, maybe they are operating without license as illegal. But they are channel to reach the casinos who are the real purpose. The problem is with the gamblers who do not see the marketing purposes of ads but stake higher than they can bear.

Gambling ads causes harm.. and the main reason is fact that these ads gives unrealistic expectations.they never show you people losing, it's only the wins that are shown. And in reality there are more losers than winners. They sell you false gains. The addiction disclaimer and money disclaimer is usually not emphasized.. they will just put it in a very small writing in one corner of the screen.  That false profit is what makes it so dangerous. And it is these quick money claims that make even children engage in gambling too. I think bans of these ads will really be effective to regulate addictions

That is true but that is their way of marketing their business or themselves though they should show both loss and win so that people who are ignorant of that fact will be aware of it and then decide to follow the ads or not. Every thing has disadvantage but I don't think and I don't expect those sites to show the bad side of gambling because if they do they won't get customers they want but like I said they should... Perhaps they assume everyone know about the bad side of gambling that's why they don't show it however, greed is what makes some people believe and follow ads.

Gambling ads are one of the main issues we have today about gambling addiction and a lot of people can agree to that fact. But another thing that is important is that people should know when something is looking too good to be true, as an adult you should know the whatever is presented on the media about gambling will only show the positive sides of it and not the negative aspects of it. Gambling ads will always be there, people just need to develop their mindset so they don't believe such things. What should be completely put under control is fake gambling ads probably to get people signed up on fake gambling platforms, this is what causes more harm.
Yes gambling advertisements is one of the major reasons behind gambling addiction as it presents gambling with a full scale winning scheme without letting all know it hurts at times. Many finds it difficult accepting its all fabricated and not all that are true just because they are carried away by the advantageous aspects of it. But the earlier we all come to understand what this gambling ads are doing to gamblers the better for us.
The time we develop the mindset that most of those things are not true the better it will be for us because even as there are real gambling schemes,  same also there are fake ones willing to increase our addiction in gambling.

Someone has known gambling and he can't stay without gambling. Banning gambling or casinos ads has nothing to do with him as far as internet is available in the location, he will always be gambling. Though ads play a major role for the increment of gamblers. The only thing I know that can stop gambling is internet. Once internet has stopped working there will be a massive reduce in gambling but that will not happen because it will affect other business as well.

Gambling advertisements are now limited to television, now gambling advertisements are given everywhere on social media. Now if you enter YouTube, you will see gambling advertisements coming up regularly. If you spend time on Facebook reels or Facebook, you will see gambling advertisements coming up regularly. So, there will be no benefit in blaming television alone, but if gambling advertisements can be stopped on social media, it will be possible to bring back the wrong young children to the right path.
When we want to watch something entertaining together on smart TV with our family, sometimes gambling advertisements come up, and when the young children want to know about that advertisement, we try to avoid it. How long can we keep the young children hidden like this? The government of the country must definitely take a very strict stance on this matter, otherwise we will not be able to protect our young generation in any way.

We have had a similar discussion before but in that subject, it was another country fighting to ban gambling ads on TV and all social media, and based on what I said in that post, this kind of approach might not actually be the best solution to prevent gambling harm because there are a lot of people who are already stocked on the addiction and stop simply because gambling ads is banned, such people needs another kind of help. Banning gambling ads can only prevent some of the non gamblers from becoming gambling addicts but it can not stop the already exiting addicts.

It is right that they are not advertised except in contexts and at times where there are no fragile people such as children and adolescents.
Do you happen to see tobacco or alcohol or sex advertised on TV? i don't think so and there are reasons.
I agree with this measure.

Advertising about their gambling site it's one way to reach the people about what they have and offers but most time when i see these gambling ads pop up in my phone they don't just go straight on how this gambling stuff is, they will always show up how people are winning games as if anyone that place a bet will just win, they will never talk about how people are also losing their bet and advise people to gamble responsibly, so i think what they say out is what pushes people more to always gamble.

If everyone knows the bad side of the ads, what about the new Person that wants to get into gambling newly. What about a teenager who is just scrolling his phone and then bumps om gambling ads, how does he know about the many bad disadvantages of gambling and all what it takes. If not for the fact that it is the only way of letting people know about there business, and of course, they are licensed and pay there dues to the government, and restricting them will become a bridge of contract, I would have suggested that gambling ads be totally stopped. Let only those who are already gamblers gamble, and probably those who would learn about it from another form do it. This will help to reduce the great number of people that would want to become gamblers or even know about gambling. If that doesn't work, then in there adverts, while mentioning the good of gambling, they should well outline all the disadvantages involved too.

Does it seem that advertising, which is considered an "engine of progress," is becoming harmful to many? Well, the advertisement didn't appear yesterday. In this case, what can we say about other harmful products that really harm the human body but somehow continue to be advertised? Coca-Cola? There have also been studies on the dangers. Are any of the lawmakers concerned? And all that fast food leading to obesity and diabetes, or alcohol? It can take a long time to list the dangers. But everyone decides for themselves. I think every adult should make a decision on their own. And gambling too, they allow people of adult age to play. A person decides for himself where to spend his money. Addiction can arise from anything, not necessarily from gambling. But if there is a proposal to ban one "harmful" advertisement, then it would be right to ban all the others.

The more correct one I think is "gambling ads encourage a person to gamble and end up losing a lot of money", meaning that the ads can indeed be a trigger for a person to gamble and for the problem of loss or not this depends on how good luck they have (although I know that the House Edge will cost them in the long run).
On the other hand, for the economic impact problem, I think that when the government wants to make a decision, they must also have a solution to the impact of that decision, which means providing jobs for those people who are affected by the advertising ban. Wink

There's a lot more in the link.
But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not?
They are causing more problems for players. It's not even something which should be up for debate, but at the same time, gambling ads are the only means to get their product out there to be known by gamblers.

The major problem to me lies with how those promotions are being run and the type of information those advertisers are passing out, especially social media promotions, which have the highest risk. You see casinos promoting themselves as an easy and safe place to make fast money, which is exactly the opposite of what an average gambler gets.

Aside from the proposed opinion to ban all illegal gambling promotions, I also think there should be stricter regulation for gambling-related ads; they should pass some verification and be limited to the type of promotion they ditch out for the sake of vulnerable youths and underage people.

I agree with you that gambling ads can create more problems for players most especially when they are making gambling look like an easy way to make quick money. The main problem isn’t advertising itself, but the kind of message they’re passing across and how they’re targeting people.

I think gambling promotion is suppose to have stricter rules and adequate verification before they can come to the public. Most especially on social media where underage people and youths can easily see it. They can advertise their products but they need to be honest about  the risks involve and they should also avoid making people to see that gambling is a guaranteed way to make money.

People should know that making money isn't easy and no casino will throw free money on their customers because they're out for business. This is why they go at length to make fake ads  showing how people won big from the casino. If you follow these ads, you will ruin your life because it's not real.

I only feel pity for the people that are not gamblers but get deceived by these ads and start gambling to make profit because he can get addicted easily as a new gambler.

If the government of United Kingdom (UK) feels gambling ads is aiding to make gamblers gamble uncontrollably, that's fine, they can go ahead and stop gambling ads so that their citizens will be more responsible, and at the same time reduce the rate of people going into gambling. As they are determined to take such action, I also feel sensitization will also go a long way. When you feel people the rate of gambling is on the increase, and is posing danger in the lives of citizens, your protective measures should include educating the citizens on the danger involved in irresponsible gambling, and by so doing many will take caution because they have learned, but when you try to stop them without telling them the danger involved, they might feel oppressed, and would device other ways of gambling.

Advertisment in gambling can actually make people who are not supposed to be gambling to start to gamble, but I would not say it is entirely the fault of the ad or casinos which push their advertisement to as many media as possible. In the end, casinos are businesses and all kind of businesses try to get as many clients as possible.

Let us see for example the advertising budget of Coca Cola, are we also supposed to blame Coca Cola for the increasing health problems, like diabetes, in countries where it is widely available ?

I don't think so...
The issue goes beyond ads, it is a societal issue.

But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not?
This is a pretty debatable topic. I mean casinos are just advertising but whether to bet with the money or not is a person’s own choice. There are a lot of things being advertised but the consumer needs to be mentally prepared to decide whether to use the product or not.

If we look at it from a gambling site’s perspective, they run ads so that they can earn money when people lose on their site. So morally, no one is necessarily at fault. If a debate is held, there will be a lot of arguments for and against gambling ads.

Now the real question is that is banning these ads sufficient to eradicate gambling addiction? Some statistics on this would really help us assess the situation better. For now I would only advise people to gamble responsibly.

Let’s put it simply: any advertisement is a call to action or a form of manipulation aimed at encouraging the consumption of the advertised goods or services. In other words, it’s a direct or indirect influence on a person to make them take a decision they hadn’t previously taken, or to choose something they hadn’t previously used. Advertising isn’t about providing information,  it’s about targeted manipulation. Therefore, the conclusion is: yes, banning advertising will reduce consumption of that product or service.

Gambling advertisment can actually cause harm but they are not clearly the only thing that can prompt gambling harm. There are those that enjoy gambling that even without them seeing a gambling advert they will still gamble, nowadays there are numerous gambling platforms and having access to them isn't difficult. So there is still tendency for those that enjoy gambling to still bet even without seeing an advert.
As for me, the main challenge is the way gambling is being promoted and how much time people spend gambling . Frequent viewings of gambling advert can push people into gambling when they never plan to.
However, it won't be a good idea to ban all gambling advert because it may leads to some gamblers patronising illegal gambling platforms. Therefore, instead of banning or prohibiting gambling advert, the attention should be on protecting gamblers by setting a regulation or trying to control how gambling is being advertised.

Yes, I just copied the question from this link: https://www.gamblinginsider.com/news/195535/uk-gambling-advertising-ban-house-of-lords-report

Well, I think that's the question that many of us have in mind. Are gambling advertisements really the issue?

UK Report Calls for Ban on Gambling Ads: Is This the Answer to Address Gambling Harm?
Quote
A House of Lords Liaison Committee’s report in the UK has called for a comprehensive ban on gambling advertising, marketing, and sports sponsorship.

Evidence links ads to gambling harm
Quote
The report notes that between 1 and 1.5 million British adults, around 2.4% of those aged 18 or over, meet criteria for problem gambling.
It argues “that a comprehensive ban on gambling advertising represents the most effective policy option to advance meaningfully the Government’s aim of reducing gambling harms and represents a vital part of a public health approach."
Quote
For example, researchers at the University of Sheffield revealed that soccer fans were 22-33% more likely to bet when watching World Cup matches with gambling ads on TV.
I know there are a lot of soccer fans here. Is this true?

Operators claim ban will cost jobs and dent economy
Quote
The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), whose members include the majority of gambling operators in the UK, says a ban on advertising will send users to the black market and hurt the economy.
Yes, I think this can cause trouble for those who are working in the gambling industry. Then, the gamblers who already know how to gamble will find a way to keep on betting, and so they find solutions by going to the black market or illegal gambling sites. They might not even mind if their funds are frozen or their accounts are blocked, even if there's money left there.

Industry calls for ad ban for unlicensed operators
Quote
While defending regulated companies’ right to advertise, Hurst and the BGC have amplified calls for a ban on unlicensed operators’ sponsorship of sports teams. Several Premier League teams have deals with companies that do not hold UK licenses.
This is one good solution and can also be long-term. If the regulated gambling sites are the only ones that can be used by the gamblers, they can somehow project the real percentage of how gambling advertisements are affecting the customers.
There are still illegal sports bookies and gambling sites out there, and I think they should focus on them first.

There's a lot more in the link.
But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not?

Maybe a part of the issue but not everything, gambling ads problem is catching the attention of the underage, this is the only problem I have with gambling adverts, they have no restrictions about where and what their adverts should look like.

But let's pretend like they have less exposed adverts, or let's go back in time when gambling isn't this big, aren't there addicted gamblers? News about gambling ruining the life of people have been here since I was born.

People who are struggling in life will still gamble, those who are average will still gamble and people who are rich and likes sport bets will still do their thing, nothing will change than limiting underage exposure to gambling.

Gambling advertisements in my view are one of the gateways for people to enter to bet and get to know the world of gambling in detail, advertisements will also trigger the frequency of betting among the general public, as time goes by when people start to bet and win, that's whenstarting to get addicted.

Talking about advertising and losses, yes, this will definitely happen when the user starts to get addicted to it which can be financially detrimental. In short, when someone has experienced gambling through advertising, losses will also arise from various aspects of their life.

Well, I think that's the question that many of us have in mind. Are gambling advertisements really the issue?

If you consider that the UK bans cigarettes and alcohol advertising, it's amazing that gambling has been allowed to persist for so long at such a scale. However they seem to be a rather vocal and influential group when you look at something like the Premier League, who probably claim that they can only afford the highest cost players in the world by having these sponsors. That'll be why the government has not clamped down harder so far, there's literally no other big revenue providers that will step in to fill the massive gap in finances of these clubs. Not sure that the majority of the general public would care though, but they'd lose a few players to European clubs who could afford to pay higher salaries. It is quite bad how prevalent these gambling operators are in the major clubs, every single one has at least one big gambling advertiser if not multiple.
