Short answer is Yes, gambling ads can harm anyone and it can influence someone to go and try gambling.
But I have a debate with this from a friend and my arguments is that it depends on who is reading the ads. If you are that person who easily tempted and succumb to it, they it will harm you.
However, there are individuals who are not going to be affected by this ads, and will just laugh it off.
So it will only affect those persons that are vulnerable and weak.
You're extremely right, no matter how many times some people see gambling ads it will never be their problem, and cannot impact them in any way, except for weak and vulnerable people like you did mention.I don't know what triggers some people to make decisions concerning their lives because of little ads. If the person is a gambler before, and come across ads of new physical or online casino and decideto try it, that a different case. But someone that decide or feel motivated after he come across that gambling ads online may be digging his own grave. This one can actually cause a problem if the ads is so exaggerated and they claim there's easy richest here, also portray that gambling is just like a normal game. Many people will actually got hook on it, particularly those people in need of immediate money. This is the reason why online gambling spread so fat, because there are lots of people choose to gamble their faith hoping that they can hit big and change their lives. Reason why I'd see those action of government reasonable, since those counter actions they made eliminate those influencers, promoters and the casino use to fool people by their overblown or fake advertisements.

There's a lot more in the link. But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not?
In my own perspective I do not see it to be that these gambling site are currently attributing to issues surrending the gambling industry as I believe that everyone has their personal choices and decisions on what to do and what not to do. As a matter of fact, there is no gambling site that do calls people to gamble when doing their advertisement on any platform or even on social media but it's left for everyone gambling to decide on their own on when to gamble, when to stop, how much to be used to gamble. Even if you looked at the gambling warning you would noticed that they also warned about underage gambling and they also lost out the minimum age to gamble.

There's a lot more in the link. But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not?
From my experience, they're not causing much harm, maybe they are to impulsive gamblers, but not to casual and non-gamblers. In the past, before the advent of TV and TV commercials hosting these ads, there has been gamblers and gambling addicts. What is even causing harm in this era is online gambling and casinos—especially unregulated, no-kyc casinos—which makes it easy for underage individuals to gamble. This research shows that what influences people (non-gamblers) into gambling are primarily peers and social groups. Ads only affect gamblers—especially impulsive gamblers—much more than any other person. This research highlights that exact point. And these hold true because: from my experience, before I started gambling, I had no grasp on the various terms and options in gambling. I didn't know what over or under 2.5 was, I didn't know what 1 X 2 was, I had no idea about anything, and gambling ads can not give you these. These concepts were explained to me by a friend, and I was never for once influenced by any ad, and up until now, I'm not influenced by ads—I won't use my individual experiences as standard, but it conforms to the research stated above. So yeah, ads while being harmful to impulsive gamblers—which they'll go ahead to gamble anyway, with or without an ad—is not all that harmful to a non-gambler or a casual gambler.

This is a complex and multifaceted issue. Of course, gambling advertising can push many people toward addiction. However, people who are so easily pushed into addiction will still, sooner or later, find the courage to immerse themselves in gambling. They have gaps in their correct worldview, and these gaps cannot be addressed in any other way than through controlled gambling experiments. All we need is more control over potentially addicted people and the prevention of financial disasters by limiting their bets.

However, there are individuals who are not going to be affected by this ads, and will just laugh it off.
So it will only affect those persons that are vulnerable and weak.
No one can tell as to which extent that gambling ads can affect people. It sometimes not really affect people but when it gets to the wrong set of people, it immediately shows the weakling in them and they immediately succumb to the pressure. Gambling ads shouldn’t push you to want to do something’s that will affect your overall financial status to the downside, it will only bring about more trouble to the one already on ground. A safe gambling practice is the best and the show of this gambling ads often should also be accompanied with regular adverts of the disadvantages of gambling, this is one of the best ways to tackle gambling addiction practice.

Blaming advertisement for gambling addiction is just way off. Attacking the surface and leaving the depth of things. I see no reason why you'll ban advertisement. Just ban gambling and let everybody rest. They are not touching the root because money is being made. Banning gambling itself would be cast atrophic.
It is wrong to blame advertisements for gambling addiction, but think about one thing, when gambling advertisements are run on social media, many teenagers cannot control their greed after seeing them. Basically, we can see nowadays that most people use mobile phones where they enter after seeing gambling advertisements on social media but they cannot control themselves. There is no problem if there is gambling advertisement but when it is run on social media then people under 18 years of age who use mobile phones see it and get greedy for money. However, the situation we are seeing nowadays makes it impossible to believe that banning gambling is completely out of the question, the government can ban it if they want but people enter gambling at any stage. Banning gambling alone will not solve everything, moreover, it is not possible to ban it completely, its advertisements will continue at any stage, as technology advances, everything becomes easier, in that case, even if it is banned, people will enter gambling in any way.

Betting is easy but winning is hard. It is not easy to make a profit in gambling but newbie gamblers who think that once they bet they have won have not gone deep yet. Gambling has been discussed many times for entertainment and will be discussed more in the future for the awareness of gamblers. There will be attempts to win in gambling but an experienced gambler bets from the awareness of losses. Although sports betting seems relatively easy, you have to analyze the teams but there is still the risk of losing. To deal with this risk, it is better not to take risks beyond your financial capacity. Although in reality, you cannot win big without taking risks. You also have to remember this.

It is true that the government cannot stop gambling ads even if it wants to. Because Facebook or YouTube's ads are controlled directly from their servers, If the government wants to stop its ads, they will have to stop all Google or Meta services, which is not really possible. For example gambling and gambling ads are prohibited in our country. But even if the government wants to, it cannot control Facebook or YouTube's ads. Rather I think the biggest thing is that a user has to be careful. It should not be like this that you have to gamble just by seeing an ad. And if he plays, he should play within a budget limit. That is if he plays by setting a gambling budget, then even if he loses, at least he will not lose all his money.

You see where the actual problem really starts is the false expectations that these casino succeed in putting in the hearts of some players. When people only shows winning slips and never the losses, what it actually does is make the whole gambling thing look like an easy way to make money, as easy as just to make predictions and multiply your money, while in reality, it goes way beyond just that. If the right information were revealed in these ads, like the wins as well as the losses, then players would be able to make more informed decisions, rather than just following the wins blindly.

~ But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not?
Like everything in this world, gambling advertisements are bad for some people and good for others. Banning has never been a real solution. Instead of banning things that can be harmful to some, we should explain why they can be harmful and how to avoid them. Don’t feel you have to use everything that’s advertised. Choose what’s good for you and ignore the rest.

Gambling ads have been in here since I was in grade 2, still very little when I used to walk beside few bill boards when coming back home from school and I've never even felt like gambling for once, it seems people give attention to anything that is thrown into their faces, even in my college days I've never felt the urge for gambling, but that's me because I know that many people can't even control themselves, gambling ads can do their thing without you reacting to them, just avoid them.

Restricting gambling adds will only help not to recruit more gamblers into the gambling industry to an extent, but it will not stop those that are already into it to stop, or control their gambling behavior, because if a gambler is used to not gambling responsible, stopping the gambling adds wouldn't do anything to such person, just that it would only have a little effects in the ability of these gambling casinos creating awareness of their gambling platforms, apart from that, their is nothing more, because gambling addiction can be only stopped by the gamblers themselves than anyone trying to force it on them.

I will start by saying that to reduce gambling harm quite a few slot providers need to be completely shut off as lately they have been destroying people's lives with no one caring to audit them as they should with Pragmatic Play topping the list. Having said that the lower the exposure to any gambling activity be it streamers or ads can help in reducing gambling harm, now streamers I think should be removed from platforms like Youtube where even children or youngsters have access and only allowed in strict platforms. The less exposure the better.

Yes, I just copied the question from this link: https://www.gamblinginsider.com/news/195535/uk-gambling-advertising-ban-house-of-lords-reportWell, I think that's the question that many of us have in mind. Are gambling advertisements really the issue? UK Report Calls for Ban on Gambling Ads: Is This the Answer to Address Gambling Harm?A House of Lords Liaison Committee’s report in the UK has called for a comprehensive ban on gambling advertising, marketing, and sports sponsorship. Evidence links ads to gambling harmThe report notes that between 1 and 1.5 million British adults, around 2.4% of those aged 18 or over, meet criteria for problem gambling. It argues “that a comprehensive ban on gambling advertising represents the most effective policy option to advance meaningfully the Government’s aim of reducing gambling harms and represents a vital part of a public health approach." For example, researchers at the University of Sheffield revealed that soccer fans were 22-33% more likely to bet when watching World Cup matches with gambling ads on TV. I know there are a lot of soccer fans here. Is this true? Operators claim ban will cost jobs and dent economyThe Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), whose members include the majority of gambling operators in the UK, says a ban on advertising will send users to the black market and hurt the economy. Yes, I think this can cause trouble for those who are working in the gambling industry. Then, the gamblers who already know how to gamble will find a way to keep on betting, and so they find solutions by going to the black market or illegal gambling sites. They might not even mind if their funds are frozen or their accounts are blocked, even if there's money left there. Industry calls for ad ban for unlicensed operatorsWhile defending regulated companies’ right to advertise, Hurst and the BGC have amplified calls for a ban on unlicensed operators’ sponsorship of sports teams. Several Premier League teams have deals with companies that do not hold UK licenses. This is one good solution and can also be long-term. If the regulated gambling sites are the only ones that can be used by the gamblers, they can somehow project the real percentage of how gambling advertisements are affecting the customers. There are still illegal sports bookies and gambling sites out there, and I think they should focus on them first. There's a lot more in the link. But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not? Yes, gambling advertisement is an issue and it contributes about 50% to the rising of gambling addiction amongst the Youths in our contemporary society and in a way it has lead minors and underaged to partake in gambling because of the easy access to mobile phones and while creating a gambling account they quickly lie about their age and add from 18 years and above when they haven't gotten to that age just because they want to gamble. I have seen a scenerio where a young boy saw an advert of gambling on a television he was watching and the display was about someone who won a substantial amount from betting using that particular app and the next day the boy downloaded the exact app and used part of his school fees to stake just because he was influenced by the advertisement that was done and I think that has led many Youths astray and lured into becoming gambling addicts so it's an issue.

I am glad that work you referenced didn't totally claim that gambling ads do not affect non-gamblers. It only identified that the influence is less than what impulsive gamblers experience. Peer pressure and parental approval are major means of introducing gambling to young people, but we cannot put aside ads. My nephew loves watching football games, and he has asked me more than once if he could use his small savings to place bets. I had to discourage him from doing that. Children should be protected from these promotions, which showcase gambling as a get-rich-quick activity.

The government must be able to regulate gambling-related advertisements, and in situations like you mentioned, parents will have an important role in providing understanding about gambling. Children can learn about gambling from anywhere, whether from ads or maybe from their friends who have already gambled. The activities of adults around them can also influence the level of curiosity children have about gambling. I don't know how children can be so obsessed with making money quickly.

Children are not obsessed with getting money quickly, it is more dangerous because that they see everything as a game that they need to win. I see this behavior at my daughter, every game we play she is obsessed with winning and slowly I have taught her that losing is part of the process. When times come or if I suspect her gambling I will tell her that gambling is designed against us over the long term, she will understand. For the moment I keep her away from worthless gambling exposure.

So yes, they might be obsessed by it specially sports that they are involved or they have followed. And perhaps they have circle of friends already betting that's why the nephew was asking him. It's good that he shut down the idea of betting and discourage his nephew. But who knows, maybe he will find a way to bet once he grows up. But not as his age, it's better for that money to stay in the piggy bank and not to put into gambling this early.
