Imagine waking up one morning and you realize that your phone is gone, stolen or bad beyond repair…. And this happens to be the exact same phone that your Bitcoin wallet was on. In such a situation, did you lose your Bitcoin? The straight up answer is NO. But that doesn't mean you still can't lose it (I will get there in a moment). Bitcoin itself isn't stored inside your phone. Your wallet is like the bank that holds all needed information to access and spend your Bitcoin which is stored in the blockchain. This brings us back to the point I made earlier on you still being able to lose your Bitcoin. If your recovery phrase is properly backed up, restoring your wallet would not be an issue. Now, if someone somehow gets access to your phone but doesn't have your wallet credentials, your Bitcoin may still be safe. But if the person gets access to your wallet credentials, the reverse may be the case. Now in a situation where you lose both your phone and your wallet credentials, recovery may become difficult if not impossible. This is where Bitcoin self-custody comes in. In the Bitcoin space, you are responsible for protecting access to your credentials. This is where Bitcoin differs from traditional banking. No bank manager can simply reset your Bitcoin wallet, forgot password option, nobody can help reset your passkey… What are your thoughts on this?

So far your keys which serves as the security of your wallet is stored safely elsewhere and not inside the missing device then you're not losing anything in your wallet but if it happened that tbe phone got stolen by someone who successfully login and get acess to your keys then your coin is gone.
I would've quoted the popular slogan about keys but I believe it's a popular phrase that people should know by now and take precautions on how to protect their keys, cause it's the most important thing that concerns the security of a wallet. Avoid storing your keys in your phone especially inside the email, it should be engraved in a metal plate and stored in a safe at different locations.

Na why we dey encourage people to use non custodial wallets and to keep multiple copies of their seed phrase offline. We get so many good storage options to choose from, you fit write your keys on paper or engrave in steel. That way, even if person lose him device, he can never lose access to him coins.

Na y we no suppose joke with our seed phrase, we should make sure say we protect am well. If u Dey secure ur seed phrase, make sure say u keep am for place wey be say nobody go fit get access to am. Your seed phrase is not suppose to be stored online, if u Dey keep ur seed phrase, na where interest connection no Dey na him e suppose be. If u wan store am, write am for place like iron steel, that kin thing Dey difficult to destroy. If u write am for paper, e fit tear easily, or if water touch am e fit no clear again, and fire fit easily burn paper, but iron Dey difficult to destroy, and u go just keep am for multiple places. If u think storing your seed phrase online is better, you are just deceiving yourself, and you endangering yourself, if anybody fit hack where u keep d seed phrase, or dem steal ur phone, ur money don go be that, na why we no suppose carry our wallet security play.

If you lose your phone, your Bitcoin holdings is not lost because it is on a decentralized blockchain network. That's why it's good to always have your seed phrases not stored on your devices but either on paper or scribbled on a metal non corrosive plate. The reason is that when you finally get a new device you can download same apps you used initially and enter your seed phrases easily or if preferably you use a self custody wallet, you won't even have to bother much because your Bitcoin is safe there as long as your seed phrases remain intact.
In a case where you lost your device you should be mindful and take precautions in locking your sim card by contacting your mobile carrier service like mtn customer service or glo or Airtel customer service to lock it until you retrieve the line. You can use Google's find my device to remotely erase the local storage of the device and all this should be done with 48-72hours or less, of losing your device.

Unless you are probably using a centralized service like most of these KYC mandatory ones, you cannot recover your coins if you end up losing your seed phrase. You phone or wallet is just an anchor to access the wallet only if you have the keys and the keys are simply a derivation from the seed phrases. The solution is to have backups offline... Emphasis on offline storing your keys online is another huge mistake that could end very badly when they get compromised.

Acting quickly, towards securing your device and any account that is connected to it should be another one thing that should be consider after lossing your phone. Cause even if your keep your seed phrase safe, the phone might still be holding some sensitive information, exchanges and even the access to your email.
Before losing your phone there are different security features in our devies this days you set it, so incase . So if a thing happens like this can go lock your Sim and secure your device and informations.

Nothing stand to happen to you bitcoin if you lose your phone as long as you have a secured security measures being in place over your Bitcoin, this is one of the essence why we encourage for using a multisig wallet or the wallet that has the support of using a pass phrase, taking extra measures to ensure that you don't just lose your assets due to any slight chances of vulnerability is very important, even if you lose your device, I won't be able to perform a transaction on it because they cannot at the same time meet up with the security demand to sign the transaction from a cosigner or using a passphrase.

If you leave your bitcoin in an exchange, there is no difference between you and another person that leaves his money in the bank because he same way bank managers have been found stealing peoples money from the bank, such risk is also applicable to leaving your asset in an exchange. one key thing in cyber security is to envisage the event happening before it actually happenings and setting up security measures to ensuring that in the event that such thing happens, you are actually protected. the risk is greatest if you stored your secrete key on same device that is missing.

Something like this is still the reason why people are so much engrossed in Centralised wallet/ exchange. Not everyone wants to be responsible enough to keep their seedphrase. Some people prefer convenience to actual security. If their phone gets stolen or missing or bad, it is more "convenient" for them to just download their wallet or exchange and login in with their email and password not realising what they are giving up by doing that. As much as we emphasize on the need for noncustodial wallets, it will suprise you to know that a lot of people still don't see the need for it as long as they have a convenient way of accessing their funds

It is extremely risky to save sensitive information in your phone because we all know how boys eyes dey shine for phone for street and how easy it could be to lose your phone. If you must keep your wallet in your phone in the case of software wallet, then the seed phrase of your wallets must be stored elsewhere. In addition to this measure, password and possible 2FA have to be used to protect the wallet from easy access in case of loss of the phone. Finally, as soon as you lose your phone, urgently create a new wallet and transfer all your coins in the old wallet there because you never can tell how far the person with the phone can go to access the wallet in the lost phone. If you fail to adopt these security tips, then you may as well loss your Bitcoin whenever your phone fall into the wrong hands.

Phones and accessories has always been the target for many hackers, looters, and criminals so in all we do we should always make sure we secure our phones which ever way we can firstly, and be careful not to loose guard it at anytime or any where we find ourselves. Most people usually save their information especially passwords on their devices without getting to have another backup plan to quickly go back and retrieve or reset most of the vital information kept on the phone in the case of loss of phone or other accessories. I’m saying this because anyone can be a victim, and if that happens always make sure you have a backup plan where you can recover your information as fast as possible. As for bitcoin loss, lost of phone can only make it possible for you to lose your coin if the criminal or whoever is in possession of the device have an access to your wallet seed phrase, if not there’s no way to access it.

The only problem you will have with your bitcoin when you lose your phone is when your store your bitcoin on an exchange, that is why it is not save to store it there because in situations like these anyone can access your coin that is why it is advicible to create a wallet that will be more private to you alone like your electrum and others, in that way you are responsible for the lost of your funds since your security is in your hands, no one can access your wallet except you are careless with your seed phrase or password.
It is not safe to store all your bitcoin details on you phone so that you will not lost all your coins, I have lost my phone some times, since I never store my coins in an exchange but on a self-custody without the password on my phone my coins were not tempered but safe .
Initially I was scared but later I became calm when I realized that my password was out of the phone I became relaxed, always store your bitcoin details offline and written down with a backup on a safe place.

At first we don't have to make the mistake of storing any of our wallets details on our mobile phone's, is not advisable and doing such is like putting your holdings in to jeopardy. Storing vital information retated to our investment holdings should be done 100% offline, differs locations to ensure core safety in future. However, writing our wallets details on a piece of paper, phones, labtop or saving them in online platforms is automatically handling over your assets to someone else. Again, storing our asset on an exchange is even more crazy, non custodian wallets is way better. Furthermore, the best is to do as I earlier said above, and most importantly let it be in a different locations so that you can easily access the other if any is been destroyed. Remember the golden rule, not yours keys not your coin.

So long as your access credentials are not stored on the phone, you are safe with both custodial and non-custodial arrangements in this case. This is not new actually, and we've been telling people to be careful of where they store their seed phrases and passwords. More reason why I dislike those wallets forcing people to save their sensitive materials as a backup on clouds and other places. Anything electronic can't be trusted, and if you must trust them, you should definitely know your limit and store sensitive data on another gadget that is independent of the ones with the wallet apps themselves.

Firstly your phone is not the best place to store your key phase. Outside your phone been stolen or going bad, there are other risk involve in storing your key in your phone. Risk of your phone been hacked or compromised, we’ve heard several cases like that. It’s always advisable to store your key offline for a reason, as it is way more safer and reliable.

If ones phone get missing the kind of wallets they use and how they use wallet will determine if the Bitcoin will be untouched. If bitcoin is in exchange wallet it is very easy to get access to the Bitcoin and this is why exchange wallet is not good for the safety of bitcoin. If it is in a non custodial wallet and no proper security it is either you lose the bitcoin complete or whoever get access to the phone transfers the bitcoin. Some persons may never care to write their seedphrase offline and for those who prefer to save it on their phone or online it willl be an easy access for anyone to get your bitcoin in the wallet.
For safety of bitcoin and good security of wallet, one needs to understand non custodial wallet makes Bitcoin to be safe. The manner of how the private keys are being handling also matters, and this determine the safety of one's bitcoin.

You have answers to your question already, but a little addition to what has being said, there is no loss to assets on both custodial and non custodial wallet when the registered credentials and passkey are available. For a lost custodial wallet, there will be provision to input the registered email and password of that wallet, after which a prompt notice of an authenticator code request pops up, there will also be an option for "lost authenticator access " after which further verification process is confirmed. For a non custodial wallet, there is no recovery when the seed phrase is lost.

Another factor that most of us don't even pay much attention to is understanding how to properly recover your wallet in advance. It's actually a good thing to have a recovery phrase written somewhere, but if you have never tested, or understand the recovery process actually works then you can still get panic if your phone goes missing. I think it will be better to learn everything on how to recover your wallet while everything is working perfectly fine, instead of waiting to see what will happen when your phone is also stolen or bad.

Some people choose not to learn until e happen to them the hard way. This thing na something wey them dy talk for this forum everytime say writing down our secret phase on a piece of paper na the best way to preserve our access to our wallet if something like this happen, but some people don decide to dey reluctant in doing the right things now wey e never dey too late. Everybody know say once you lost your device wey your self custodian wallet dey, the only thing wey go help you recover that wallet na if you write your secret phase somewhere, like on a piece of paper, so why most people go ignore something wey dy important like this? That one show say na only unserious people go fall victim to such things.
