Asian Games 2026 – Which Country Will Win the Most Medals?

As you guys know the Asian Games 2026 are currently taking place in Japan. So lets see which nation wins the most medals. For those who dont know much about the Asian Games, around 43 sports are being played, with almost 45 nations participating.

I think this time as well, China, South Korea and Japan will win most of the medals. They are really exceptional in these types of tournaments. Maybe this is because these nations identify talented athletes from a young age and train them to compete at the highest level.

China has won 11 gold medals so far while some of the other nations havent even secured their first medal yet. So China is definitely playing 1 vs. All at the moment.
I would love to hear your predictions. Which country do you think will finish at the top of the medal table? And which is your favourite sportsbook for placing bets on this tourney?

It's pretty obvious that China will lead the pack and then the second place will most like be Japan. If you look at the 2024 Olympics ranking, the order is pretty much the same when you compare only Asian countries

I still wonder why we see China getting subdivided into Macao china, Hong Kong China, Chinese Taipei...

I think the reason China, Japan and South Korea always lead is because of the high level of discipline and training they instill on players right from Childhood. We do also see those countries front their cultures so much.

I don’t know about you guys but I’m particularly interested in the shooting games. I was very impressed by the performance of the Korean woman in the Olympics two years ago, at the moment India appears to be doing well in the shooting games.

I was looking forward to seeing Eumir Marcial(Filipino boxer) in the Asian Games, but he just fought on the undercard fight in the Pitbull Cruz vs Nestor Bravo, so I doubt he'll be able to participate in the Asian Games because it might be too much for his body. That being said, Eumir won via knockout against his opponent, so I'm still happy.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Carlos Yulo and his brother Eldrew Yulo, both of them are in gymnastics. Both of them are promising. Carlos is an Olympic gold medalist, while his brother Eldrew won a gold medal at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup this year.

After checking the previous Asian Games, it's safe to say China lead in this Asian Games too, even if Japan have more athletes participating in the Asian Games.

China and South Korea are two nations I do much accolade when it comes to sport activities though. It seems flexibility is in their gene and they are very good at sports activities.
One thing I have noticed about some Asian countries most especially these two nations is that they kind of discover their sports potentials from their early age hence they do develop their capacity which has made them excel is sports activities.

China is the perennial winner of these events, and it has held that title for a long time. South Korea and Japan are the challengers for that title.
One reason these three are always fighting for the top 3 is that they have delegates at every event.

China always wants to rule the Asian Games because it wants to show the world that it is the king of this region, and it is also the training and qualifying ground for its athletes for the coming Olympics.

Of course, it will be China again leading the medal standings. Year after year, Chinese athletes just dominate and manage to win so many medals for their country, so it wouldn't be surprising if they end up on top again. 
As for the host country, they might only take second place, and then South Korea, like you said. These three countries are used to overtaking each other in medal counts at the Asian Games, so yeah, the results probably won’t be much different this year either.

It's because they have a good sports program, and add the large population, then you can get a lot of good sports athletes. And then they government giving all the help that their sports athlete need, nutrition, good coach, training facility and others.

That's why most of the Asian games, they are dominating it. So it's not that easy to predict that they will win the most medals again. And the rest will have to fight it out in the second place, like Japan, South Korea and others.

He did win his pro fight by knockout but Philippine team ultimately withdrew him from Asian Games due to very short recovery time. Although Martial himself expressed he was ready to play but team determined not to field him, taking his long term fitness into consideration.

BTW competition for subdivision 1 concluded just few minute ago. Carlos Yulo and his brother produced outstanding performance & securing first and second place respectively.

Yulo has been the face of Philippines because of his gold medals in the Olympics if I'm not mistaken. So they can really dominate this one as this is the first time that he had a brother who is also in the same sports.

As far as Gold medal hauls, history tell us that they have been the top country and medal producing in Asian games. That's why it's very hard to see them not getting the most golds, but overall strength by taking everything they can.

In the last three Asian Games, their total medal count was:

2014 Incheon - 345 medals
2018 Jakarta-Palembang - 289 medals
2022 Hangzhou - 383 medals

So even though their total dropped in 2018, they still remained the dominant country, and in 2022 they increased it again to 383 medals. With that kind of consistency across three straight Asian Games, I think we can still expect China to be one of the strongest, if not the dominant team again this time.

You don't need to be a genius to understand this - just take a look at the standings. The other countries are lagging far behind in points, and I don't think anyone will be able to get close to the leaders.

It is simply that sports (and a wide range of them) are highly developed in these countries, and the state doesn't hesitate to invest resources in it (for the sake of prestige). Overall, these nations are economically strong, which also allows them to utilize surplus resources for sports development.

Even without seeing the current standings, I would have predicted that China would take 1st place. They have consistently posted such impressive results (even at world-class championships) and the dedication of their athletes borders on fanaticism. To be honest, their athletes seem more like "machines" than human beings , that’s how far they outperform the competition. By the way, this applies not just to sports but to science as well; take mathematics Olympiads, for instance, the Chinese are among the leaders there, too.

The one outcome I’m certain of is that China will lead in gold medal count, though I haven't found a bookmaker offering bets on this. Perhaps someone could point me in the right direction? Although, I suspect the odds would be very low regardless (given that the Asian Games are in full swing).

This is the reason why predicting who the powerhouses are or will win the most golds in the current Asian Games is not an interesting subject; this has been the standing for so many decades, and it will stay this way, except if two of the countries mentioned are on leave from this event.

These three are economic powerhouses; they have funding to train their athletes, and they can send as many athletes as they want to compete in all the events, which is why they get the most medals in many events.
