Primary duties of every government

I know one of the primary duty of a government is to ensure it citizens safety, of which I have seen so many countries enjoying such duty from their government, but that doesn't not include the Nigerian government, because they don't really care about the safety of it citizens that's more reason the level of insecurities is becoming unbearable, I can tell most of African countries that are really enjoying such duties from their government, not to talk of the western world, i know there's corruption in everywhere but at least the government should show working in some areas to at least boost it citizens confidence, but that's not for Nigeria government.

The Nigeria government is among the governments that don't understand their primary duties. Those aspiring to power in Nigeria don't have the country at heart, they want power just to be able to steal public funds and enrich themselves and their household.

The current government of Nigeria has been unable to protect the lives and properties of its citizens. for the  years and few months spent in office Nigerians have been killed like flies by boko Haram, bandits and unknown gunmen, while we have a government that sworn an oat to protect the lives and properties of its citizens.

Also, they are about  to wrap up their four years in office, yet no Job opportunities have been provided for the citizens. They want to return to office next year, and some foolish Nigerians are busy taking bags of rice in exchange of their vote next year. what a tragic cycle that keep the country trapped in the same problem year after year.

Exactly, not that Nigeria government's is among, they're the no1 government's who doesn't understand their primary duties. From my own observation, i think the faults came from the first government's who ruled after independent and failed not to.plan for the betterment of their people, if the past government's has showed good leadership and with some laws that any leaders who comes to power must abide maybe in times of bad leadership.

Right now Nigeria government's are have failed to protect life's and properties of their people because of their selfish interest, whoever that get into power only think of their families members they don't care what other's are going true, since Mr A went there care about other's they chose to do the same thing  too.

Talking about the present government's right now they're the worst government's so far, ever since they came into power nothing good could be write about them in the history of Nigeria leadership. This present government's has made life's so miserable to every citizens of this country, by making them do what's not good in the eyes of humans. Even with the pains and sorrows they've cost on this country there're still some people who i don't really know what to describe them with are still supporting for their second term, right now they used food items for their campaign because they knew that people are hungry, so the only way to get vote from the masses provide food items for them.

Below are some of the primary purpose of every government. At first I will mention protection of lifes and properties of citizens,  Provision of employment opportunities and so on. All this and many I didn't mention are all duties recognised constitutionally which most governments choose to deviate from because of their own reasons.

These responsibilities are handed down to ministries to ensure that they are effectively carried out and ideally, they are the ones that ought to be held accountable if they fail to carry it out as expected. The president and governors can not do it all other than overseeing what those they have appointed are expected to do.

The unfortunate thing is that those that are in charge of these ministries are selected based off who will be loyal to the dictate of the government in power  rather than through merit and so we have more incompetent people handling these position who do not even have the slightest idea what is expected of them.

I have come to understand that most government deviates from there constitutional duties as a government and goes at it pleases then without being questioned because the citizens at time do not know the primary purpose of government in every country, to start i will be pleased to outline some primary duties enshrined in the constitution.

Even though the government has mentioned these issues in the rules, it is negligently deprived of these issues, it does not think about the benefits of the people. In the current situation, those who work in government jobs have more benefits and do not have to face accountability to anyone, because they are performing their duties negligently.
They are doing their work as they wish, so they do not feel the need to be accountable to anyone, this is causing a lot of harm to the country and is creating more difficulties for the future of the country. Therefore, the day the government can properly perform its duties, the country will start reaching the peak of development.

Government is expected to be in control of every affair that pertains to a particular country; the government, ahead, has the full responsibility for anything it is doing or that is happening to the masses they represent.

Being in government is not an act of going after acquiring power to make influence against others and show them your superiority; instead, it is a call for public service, whereby we engage with other people in working together to make a better nation. This also comes through a selfless service we are going to render unto humanity and the nation at large; the government must not fail the people, especially in the areas where they needed them the most, to intervene when it comes to security and fight against every form of attack from among the people.

This is the primary duty of every government and it's not optional, that's a privilege the government owes us (citizens). But it's sad to see that even the barest minimum is now seen as the best the government could provide, that's what the government makes their citizens believe.

To add to what has being said already,  other duties of the government would be:
1. Providing security/ law and order.
2. Provision of adequate health care centers.
3. Providing substantial educational facilities and many others.

But in a country where corruption and deception thrive, we would likely see a government where all these necessities are comprised.

The primary objective of a government is to work for the welfare and betterment of the public however instead of addressing the people issues the government appears to be prioritizing competition with others seemingly unconcerned about whether or not the public is receiving essential amenities.The public is not to blame for this situation yet they face immense hardship due to the lack of quality education adequate healthcare facilities and proper roads.Even more critical than these issues is the problem of inflation compounded by rising petrol prices which has left citizens wondering how they will manage to live the rest of their livesespecially given that there appear to be no prospects of the government curbing inflation.The government ought to focus on the country needs rather than abandoning the people to their plight.

From our country's perspective, the main job of the government is to loot the country's resources. Our current government is a living proof of this. Since the current government came to power, the prices of all essential commodities in our country have increased many times. But before they came to power, they promised to make the country free from corruption. But instead of doing so, they are now busy lining their own pockets. Few days ago, a bridge was built in our country and that bridge was built with bamboo instead of rebar. So you understand how responsible the government is in our country. Theft and robbery are a daily occurrence. I think this is not only in our country, but it exists in almost all third world countries.

it differs the country you are...In a civilised countries, citizens have right to air out their challenges...but in undeveloped countries that's filled with corruption, it's only the Elites that decides and determine by others citizens..so that's it's called corruption..which citizens are not authorised to speak and even when they speak out nobody will give them listen ear...

Any government country that have good governance, will make provisions what you listed...including employment opportunity, but the thing is that, corruption and bad leadership has taken over some countries, which they will bother to make provision to citizens but only care for their selfish interest

Well you May be right but I don't think there is any where in the constitution that also state that it is punishable by law if they don't adhere to those laws, This is why they act the way they do. All what I see is that politicians promise what they can not do, when they are not in power they promise the masses with good governance just to get the votes but immediately they are voted in, they do the opposite of what they promised. The funny part is that the sector that are soposed to question this leaders are also currupt, when two people are currupt, who will judge each other? The fact is that corruption has eaten deep in every sector that's why they can't say something when they see one, since they are partner in crime.

Impeachment, bad government are impeached, the legislature has every right to remove a present government in power, any government that feels like he is above the law will be severely punished for its sins. The problem is that the government and those in the legislature are now friends of the same party, when last did you hear about a government impeached, now it is done by force, through coup d'état, and most of them are not

I guess we are in thesame boat afterall, impeachment is easy to say but hard to implement. the government is going from bad to worst but nothing is done, the judiciary/legislature are not doing anything despite what they are seeing. That's why I emphasis mostly on corruption, because it is only corruption that will make the law become effective to some certain people while the rest are above the law. Politician involve in money laundry and nothing is done but when a poor man steal to eat they either kill or sentence him. When a rich politician kill someone intentionally and government is aware, they will hide and protect him with all cost, but if same happens to a poor man without public figure, he will be killed instaly or will wrought in jail. The truth is that countries where government duties are recognized are few but the rest are not noticable or are not practicing democratic system of government.

Protection of live and properties,  protection of human rights, provisions of social amenities to the people are the most important duties of any responsible government,  any government that failed to provide any of these things are irresponsible and should be voted out of power. Running government is very easy when you have the right people in power,  they will do everything possible to improve the country economy and the citizens welfare.  In electing leaders citizens must consider those that have the political will and zeal to serve over juicy promises that is not realistic.

In Africa the political leaders has all failed in their responsibility to provide the primary rights of their citizens , in 2026 some Africa countries are still building roads and bridges, some are still building schools,  when the world has moved to advancement and AI. Africa is far behind in everything because of bad leadership,  the high rate of human rights abuse in Africa is on the very high, when you're talking about poor leadership look at Africa.

Government uses the strategy of controlled poverty on their citizens. I strongly believe that leaders do not neglect their primary duties by mistake, they intentionally keep the system and environment very broken and weak so that they can maintain control over the mass population. If you give it critical thought, imagine the government actually does the right things by providing constant electricity, safer roads and very quality education, then it will naturally push the citizens to become financially stable, independent, smart and they will also become powerful in their decision making. When people are educated and wealthy enough, then they start asking the right questions and having the confidence to chae corrupt politicians out of office.

There are different factors that are helping the corrupt leaders maintain their influence over the people including poor electricity, a weak education system, bad infrastructure, roads and poverty. But that does not mean that these condition are sometimes created intentionally for people to become dependent on government. There can be multiple reasons for these types of conditions. These problem come from weak institution, corruption, limited tax revenues, poor planning, debt and also because of year of mismanagement by the government. Also, it's not true that person who is uneducated and poor is easier to control. Having economic hardships can create political instability and even revolutions. Similarly wealthy and educated societies also have corruption and there is also political manipulation. It is good and important to improve infrastructure, education and economic opportunities but they are not only source of failure nor are they the reason that government is deliberately making strategies to keep its citizens poor.
