Primary duties of every government

I have come to understand that most government deviates from there constitutional duties as a government and goes at it pleases then without being questioned because the citizens at time do not know the primary purpose of government in every country, to start i will be pleased to outline some primary duties enshrined in the constitution.
Below are some of the primary purpose of every government. At first I will mention protection of lifes and properties of citizens,  Provision of employment opportunities and so on. All this and many I didn't mention are all duties recognised constitutionally which most governments choose to deviate from because of their own reasons.

A government should not be above the duties approved by law . When citizens understand the primary purpose of government, they are better equipped to question and ensure that those in power serve the people rather than act alone according to their own interests.

Questioning those in power is not the big deal because some have developed this thick skin that regardless of the questioning, they are not ready to bend at all. the power of people in most case is only useful before an election. once an election has been concluded, the rest is just history because you don't have anything you using to hold those in power down.

The government know what is there primary responsibility and they have more than enough to bring it to pass but most of them are just selfish and going about their personal interest while forgetting the people that supposedly brought them into power.

Yeah the only time you have power over them is during an election after the election and they are being elected. They behave how they want without control, the constitution that was supposed to be a check on their attitude and there power cannot actually perfect it because they are the ones that execute whatever the constitution says.

Sometimes I usually think, is it that the reason why government or the leaders are not actually doing their job is because they want some percentage of people to suffer in the country?
Government can actually make everyone very comfortable but if people are too comfortable a lot may go wrong, as humans you need to work very hard to make things easier for yourself and your children because government will never make things very easy but in some countries the suffering is too much the government actually needs to make things easier over there.

There is no need to tell about it, the government has the power and does not need permission to do everything, some things are done in it, but the final decision is theirs. Therefore, what are their duties? If the people tell them, then the existence of the government is foolish. The duties of the government are all the tasks that every person does every day. Such as ending inflation, ending crimes, protecting children, repairing roads, providing bus facilities, providing justice in the court, not cheating themselves, creating easy facilities for the people so that they do not suffer. The government can do all this, but they start thinking for themselves first and during this time, the last days of their year of government come and they pay some attention and demand from the government again. The government knows everything, but they do not pay attention to the people, some for their own pressure and some for their own convenience, so if the government is good, then it itself knows what its duties are.

Yes, this is the constitutional duty of the government, and this is why any government that is incompetent in showing work or in delivering its constitutional duties can be removed by citizens. It is very unfortunate that many citizens don’t even know their rights; that is why the government makes a joke of the citizens. When they carry out a small project, they behave as if it was done from their own portfolio. The greatest fear of every corrupt government is acknowledging how much the citizens know their rights, and when citizens resist bad governance, no matter how the government tries to suppress them.

You have been able to capture some the major priorities of the government, which you caption their primary duties, of course those are their primary assignments, but I do no agree with you that the citizens do not know that those are supposed to be the major concerns of the government in a country, the thing is, the citizen has no say in some country, there voice is not heard, take for example those country there leaders rig themselves into power, what do you expect in such country? In some countries like mine, the labour union does not have power, judicial system is rottened, governance is crippled because the government at the center decides what happens, the states are been controlled from the center, no employment, no good health care, epileptic power, no good drinking water, no good roads, infact the people are seen as nothing.

In my own country, it's quite obvious that our government has swerve from their responsibilities. Right now its seems they don't really care about the lives of their citizens anymore, right now there's security to protect our citizens from like external attacks and i can't even mention the internal security because they're not functioning, no good public service like good roads healthcare, education etc. I believe the reason why they chose not to do their duties is because the citizens don't really care to hold anyone for not performance their duties, maybe like when contract is being awarded to them and since there's no penalties for those who failed to their jobs then it's becomes a normal thing to them.

I agree with you I also believe that when citizens stop demanding accountability the government will feel comfortable without not doing what is expected of them to do, but at same time citizens also have a responsibility to speak up ask questions and protect what belongs to everyone, so government and citizens both have a role to play because a country can’t develop when only one side is doing the party it should be both sides.

Government has totally deviated from their constitutional duties just like you said and that is absolutely correct. The government primary duties are , providing services which includes, infrastructures, safety , security, education and many more that are not listed here but in some countries today especially Nigeria here, where educational system has turned so bad, candidates finds it difficult to even gain admission in to the higher institutions. Where one sit for Join Admissions for Matriculation Bord(JAMB) examination countless times with just as little as "one single mark" away from the cut off mark without being considered. Candidate has to start all over, those are time, effort and resource wasting when there should be out laws and policies for cases like this

The primary duties of government is to look after welfare of people living in the country and they should do their best to provide common citizen with facilities that includes right of education, employment and security.

Country like Burkina Faso, Niger and the rest others have good military government that is working hard to make sure that their people get the best education, farming machinery, technology and others that will help the country grow independently on Western powers.

In many countries it is seen that despite having natural resources their people are not provided with a better and prosperous life.This is because the money coming from natural resources is not used for the betterment and opportunities of the people.We see that the rulers talk about improving the lives of the people but this is proven true only when they put it into practice and provide the people with good hospitals colleges roads and many other things.Due to this despite having natural resources the people are facing many problems.The benefit of natural resources is only when their value is used for all the people, otherwise it will remain limited to only a few people in the country and the people will be forced to live the same life.

Citizens need to understand public projects are actually funded with public resources, not the personal money of those are in government. When citizens know their rights, they’ll be able to ask the right questions and also demand for them to be accountable and not to treat those basic government responsibilities as though they’re doing us a favour.
Another thing is that, for changes to be a lasting one, it’s crucial for the citizens to stay informed, organized and very consistent in holding government accountable for how they are managing public finances and resources.

Go to My library in your country or go online and find out the duties of your government to you, the government are elected to serve you and they owe you some constitutional duties and those duties are not to be kept secretly.
I think provision of social amenities is a primary duty compared to provision of opportunities.

The reason why government deviate from their primary duties is incompetency, corruption.

What you just highlighted is correct, government deviate from their duties based on corruption and selfish interest they have for just themselves. When they are being elected into office they forget the promises they made to the people during their campaign period and all they think about is just about them and not the people who elected them into their various political offices. These government they know what to do for their citizens but their corrupt mind and bad motive towards the people won't let them do anything good for the citizens in the country.

In my country were am from the government is really bad they just don't care about the welfare of the people anymore and the level of insecurity is very high even to the extend we citizens of the country aren't safe enough to travel anywhere within the country because of the high level of insecurity and failed promises made by the government.
