Recently, I self-excluded myself from the sites where I used to gamble regularly to take a break from gambling and did it for a minimum of 6 months. Their aim is that I will abstain from gambling for at least six months. And those platforms are also not letting me log in to my account and gamble. So far everything was fine but I found that the platforms are constantly sending me various types of promotional mails. They are giving me emails of various types of offers. Now the issue is how much self-exclusion can a gambler follow when he sees such emails. Because if I give an example from my side, I have been gambling for a long time now even though I want to take a break from gambling, when I keep getting such emails constantly, I can't forget about gambling. Looks like casinos will still send your promotional emails even though you are in self-exclusion, but for me most of them end up in spam folders so I hardly notice them. Anyway, even if you try to login the casino won't let you untill the self exclusion period ends so better don't try to break it for your own good. Because even if you logged in somehow and managed to win the casino will hold all the rewards and deposit then your casino account will be terminated.

Self exclusion offered by casinos can't really stop anyone from gambling. It's like you are telling someone to help me love another person. All you will do at the end of the day is to pretend that you love that person. Coming back to gambling. It's just like the pretending love. If the emails are the problem here, there's always an option to unsubscribe from such emails at the bottom of the mail, if you can see that prompt, then you can unsubscribe and stop receiving the emails. This is just a temporary fix, but gambling addict can easily create new account in different casino and continue gambling and mostly losing money.
I saw some people asking to get excluded from one casino and than they wanted to get back and complained casino is a scam because they didnt allow him to gamble again.

Self exclusion can help people stop gambling because it stops them from using certain gambling sites or places.

About your question, I believe that self-exclusion not only helps but stop people from gambling on the platform where they requested their self-exclusion exclusion.  But whether the gambler will stop gambling completely is still  their decision.  Self-exclusion can only give them time to reflect on their gambling activities.  At the end of the day, no tools or outside factors (except having no money)can keep a person from gambling until he decides to stop gambling.

It always depend on yourself, on your personal discipline. If you are commited to stop gambling, it will work, but if you are unstable, you will simply find another platform where to play, ignoring the self exclusion.

If it is not working and if the person is true to stop gambling, but he is unable to stop gambling, the person need rehabilitation. There are some professionals that can help medically and through psychotherapy. He needs to visit rehabilitation center for this if he is unable to stop gambling and wasting money in it.
