Bitget one of the Nigerian most used cex hacked

Allegations have surfaced regarding unusual on-chain activity on the cryptocurrency exchange Bitget. The magnitude of the incident is claimed to exceed $100 million.

While some users have reported that withdrawals have been blocked, high-value asset transfers appear to have been made from hot and cold wallets labeled as belonging to Bitget.

According to researchers who shared on-chain data, transactions on the Arbitrum network were particularly noteworthy. The newly created address 0xe410…d946 reportedly purchased 7,111 ETH in just six minutes using approximately 19.67 million USDT0 from the Bitget hot wallet. The transactions were conducted via UniswapX and 1inch Fusion, with some purchases paying approximately 5% above the spot price.

For those who use Bitget exchange it have been said to be hacked few minutes ago and $170m worth of different crypto have been stole across different chains/coins, currently withdrawal have been disabled in the exchange.

We are now at the stage where no where is safe for someone to store their crypto. Exchanges and even wallets are getting compromised. These hackers are becoming smarter day by day. The funy there is that bitget where celebrating their 8th year anniversary today.  I just hope they are able to get those culprit and recover the stolen funds. If withdrawals has been disabled in the exchange according to op, then the news is already confirmed. Exchange hack is no longer a new thing, it’s something that has become frequent. An exchange as big as Bitget getting hacked is not really a good news. Haven seen what has happened to other exchanges previously, they would have done better to make sure they are not easily penetrated. To me the only confirmation we are waiting for now is for the admin of biggest to post in their social media account to confirm the news.

Today is a very bad day for a lot of us beause just today Duelbits and Bitget got hacked and these are two platforms a lot of us use regularly. That of Duelbits will affect a lot of us that play in that casino because deposits must always be in the platform to be able to gamble. The Bitget hack will have little effect on those of us here because we already know that CEX is not a place to save money. Maybe the few that use them for trading will be badly affected.

Water don dey pass garri for all these exchanges o. In fact, in recent times na just news of hacks we just dey hear for this crypto industry and it's really disturbing because the truth is that at a point you will need CEXs even if you are someone that keeps your bitcoins on self custodial wallet.

Bitget exchange is the second choice of Nigerians after Bybit because most of us use that exchange to trade of cryptos on their p2p platforms. I think there were some recent improvements that was done on the exchange, only to hear this kind of news today.

Right from time I no even like that Bitget exchange, very anyhow exchange wey even their P2P merchants and service no just sit well with me.
Come be like I already know say something like this go fit sup, and after the first time, I just stop to use that exchange after that first time. I didn't know that Duelbits also has the same issue today and is even the casino in mostly gamble sometimes. As for Bitget I have been seeing them as an exchange there security is a Top notch but learning about this amount that was hacked from them was actually shocking and unfortunate, so does it mean that there is know centralized exchange that's safe from hackers?. This is why I have stopped saving anything on any exchange know matter how reputable they are because attack could come at anytime, meanwhile you are right because if their are victim from Nigeria it will definitely be traders.

This is honestly scary because it shows that even established exchanges and wallets are not completely immune to attacks. Losing over $100M in a single day is huge, and I can only imagine the panic of users who had their funds there. Hopefully Bitget and the relevant security teams can identify the attackers and recover as much of the stolen funds as possible. It’s also another reminder that in crypto, security and custody should never be taken for granted.

No matter the fees you may face with moving your funds out of self custody wallets to exchanges, is still Worth it compared to waking up and getting your exchange wallet funds locked like bitgets customers right now.

Exchange wallet should be treated as gateway to exchange your coins, and not for storage, even trader's shouldn't hold large capital on those exchanges, once you see some good amount in your exchange make sure you move it to you own wallet to avoid stories that touch.

You're are right, some people forget to know that there's nothing like best exchange because all of them are capable of bring hacked. Some people will always fall victim to news like this because they are adamant when it comes to the security of their wallets. It's not as if we can avoid exchanges completely but keeping one's crypto assets in those platforms is just very risky because anything can happen to them.

I do not pity people who are aware of the dangers of keeping their crypto assets on centralized exchanges but still choose to give deaf ears. What is even so difficult in keeping one's crypto where you will own the keys to the wallet. I know that some persons might use because of the gas fee they will need to pay whenever they want to send bitcoins to centralized exchanges from self custody wallet but the last time I checked gas fee on a transaction, it was just few cents which is better than risking your money on exchanges.
