In the world today, modern socities are tilting towards technological advancement to build their economy and security architecture and systems, also making life easier for their people. For example, the use of artificial intelligence is helping humans to take on task in quick time and has also reduced the risk of work hazards faced by humans. In the area of health sector you could see how the use of AI has helped to improve the medical sector whereby patience and doctors can communicate from a distance through telemedic.
The list is endless if we are to go on mentioning the impact of technology to today's world and it is very ridiculous to hear when people you think have traveled around the world and have gained exposure addition to their education would have been the persons advocating for advancement in science and technology in our country Nigeria, this are the people that are instead calling for prayers and fasting as solution to combat social and economic problems over technological development.
I don't want to drag this farther but looking at the other worlds that have given priority to science and technology over religion, you all can be the judge about where the leading economies are and how life appears to be better compared to the purported religious brainwashed societies.
This thread is motivated by the speech of certain Pastor who said Nigeria position might be for prayers and revivals and not to be making machines (going into building technology). Guys, my simple question about this which I leave with you all, has religion helped Nigeria in all ramifications more than it has set it backwards?

Religion is the opium of the people. Religion has made people forget that they actually have common sense to get things done, all they do is rely on religion for everything to be miraculously done for them.
We keep blaming the government up and down, but have we even bother to consider why it is still impossible for our youths to attend private university even when the owners of this institution are pastors and cleric. I will not judge, so let me leave that subject alone
AFAIK, even the westerners that colonized us and gave us this religion, no even pray pass us. I don't hate religion o, whatever your religion is am sure that we can coexist with one another, but what pisses me the hell off is when person begin to put religion above everything else. Things that they are now supposed to do, they will not do it because they are depending on region. Even till now I am a true believe, so hell yeah over the years I have been among those lot who have been praying for a good leader to come, but it looks as if the opposite of what we pray is what happens. So why bother still thinking religion can fix everything.
Agree with me or not, Nigeria isn't rosy like other countries even with the level of our religiosity. Prayers should never replace what the country really needs which is better technology, education, good leaders, end of extortion, end of terrorism and so many others.

Technology can exist with religion. There are may scientists in the past, today and there will be scientists in the future that are Christians, Muslims, Buddhist or that are in other religion that believe in their God but invented something. United States, England, France, Russia and many developed nations are Christians. I do not think religion should be related with it because religion did not say people should not go to school or research and develop.

Religious leaders like him are part of the problem we have in this country, they leave preaching about salvation, love for one another, leaving a modest life but misleading heir followers with wrong teachings. If religious leaders of other countries that are using modern tech to develop their nation talk against it, would they had gone that far? God gave us brains for a reason which is to solve problems but here in Nigeria many people still pray to God for things they would've solved themselves, it's just like giving someone spoon to eat yet he's asking you to feed him whereas his both hand are okay. They're just lucky that God is merciful.

To an extent I will accept this your self explanatory ideology that says most religions leaders are the problem of there nations because if they stood by telling many the truth they don't know about life, many would have changed there thinking and channel all attention towards the development of their country. Religious leaders concentrates on the importance of giving and tithes because they know what they stand to gain and also concentrate on the establishment of wrong teachings when it has to do with advancement in technology. If we want a better nation, the truth should be said about the reality of life so many can stop depending on miracles when we need to work hard

Religious leaders in Nigeria are the biggest scam and the problem that is stopping the country from moving forward imagine a pastor who's children are enjoying the development that is done by humans in the Western world discouraging people from choosing technology over prayers and fasting that shows you how low the people has become because it is only in a country where people have chosen not to be liberated that will accept such teachings when they see the importance use of technology to the modern socities. God has given us the wisdom icis left for us to use it to develop our countries the way we want them to be and stop depending on people who only benefit when the people are in darkness.

The only difference between the countries that you mentioned and Nigeria is the fact that some people known as men of God (pastors) now believe that Nigeria can not be as modern as the other countries when it comes to technology. I am not against them if they want to keep doing their business but they should stop acting like God will come down to fix the country technologically it's never going to happen, they should teach and preach about reality instead of reducing the people to believe that they need prayers to fix the country.

I don’t think faith and progress have to be enemies, a person can believe in God, prayer and faith and still use their God given wisdom to solve problems and also embrace technology. The problems is not religious itself it when people are taught to depend on miracles while rejecting the knowledge and hard work and for real God is actually merciful if not many will regret choosing the wrong directions. The real issues should be whether a teaching discourages people from thinking, learning and working for their lives not simply whether someone encourages prayer or speak about faith.

I watched the video online yesterday and i was left in shock, later i did a thorough analysis of both parties and came to discover that there was a bit of misconception, sometimes when words are spoken it is good to look at it from the context, i just feel he misunderstood the pastor, Nigeria being a nation for revival doesn’t stop them from advancing in technology.
I have heard the pastor speak before and he is a sound, someone who has worked in the oil sector, so i just feel that he was misunderstood, on the other hand being religious doesn’t stop technological development, all the top manufacturing countries are highly spiritual, China has lots of gods they worship, America, India etc have their gods, so to me religion is no excuse, Nigerian are generally not doing well technologically and it has nothing to do with what the pastor is teaching them, the only part i didn’t like all this is when the guy was mimicking the pastor with his mouth.

This is the reason why i don't follow anyone that is too religious because they will never reason in a natural way. Cases that requires immediate human action, they will say that it can only be done when you pray and fast about it. I am just happy that the knowledge of men are increasing now and they are now more able to reason critically than act based on religion. Instead of religious leaders to speak about a situation that is troubling the nation, they will tell the congregation to pray about it. Religious leaders also has the right to question the government and criticise them where necessary but they are all afraid to speak out.

People take their region too seriously too the extent that they are overdoing it and as we know too much of everything is bad and that's why they end up relying on their religion for even the smallest things that could easily be done. Being religious is not wrong but too much belief in is wrong. Being too religious can easily deviate you into partaking in spiritual things which is very wrong. Praying over a country is not necessarily bad, they are just seeking for Gods intervention to change the situation of the country but that doesn't mean we shouldn't help ourselves by doing the right thing. God help those who help themselves remember.

You aren't actually far from it brother. The truth is that is just like a misplaced priority, doing the right thing at the wrong time. However, people in this current generation has been a total dependant on miracles and for God to handle everything for them including minor problems that can be easily handled by their own selves. Perhaps, this is why the white man will always be more steps ahead of we the black because they mostly beleive in making research by themselves on every problem and probably came up with a lasting solution without any form of praying and fasting. Perhaps, it's right time we wakeup from our sleep because with this level of mentality of ours, I doubt if we can achieve anything tangible with it.

Other countries advance in technology while we are building more churches in Nigeria. Religion that was handed over to us by the missionaries have now enslaved our minds not letting us think for ourselves and if you dare speak then you're called a black sheep. In the society today there are sheeps and there are shepherds, I've known better not to be a sheep. In situations where you need basic healthcare, you'll be referred for prayers instead of a hospital. The same preachers of this faith or religion who we believe in to know better and lead with this knowledge they've gained would rather stand on alters and tell lies, enriching themselves alone all in the name of religion.

when it comes to ensuring that a country gets involved in the direction the world is headed to, whose responsibility is it? is it that of the church or the government? If the government that are actually holding the nations resources are working, world the church be praying for most of the things they are praying for? The church and most religious organization and spiritual based ecosystem. you don't expect them to emphasize on other thing while shifting attention from their primary focus. In several instances, the church have had to step in to provide most of the things that the government are supposed to provide for the citizen and they do that while still praying for a better country. Do you know what the Jerry Eze foundation is doing? do you know how many youth the likes of the OPM pastor has helped? do you not see the countless tech program different churches have been holding in addition to helping members of their church leave a morally sound life? do you know how much they encourage their youth to take their education seriously and even run free holiday classes? Are they supposed to be doing those things if they are Anti technology? If the government do their work and are representing the country in the same fashion that the church is doing, we will become the greatest country's on the face of the earth. the goal of every church is to preach heaven to people. there is no reason why they should water that down just because the government have failed to invest in the right sector that would have contributed in making us tech giant.

I want to make corrections on your mentality, well do you also know that being religious doesn’t mean a person cannot reason naturally or take actions, I put it to you that many deep religious are also into different types of occupation and this same people help the society, in fact many deeply religious people are also doctors, engineers, and activists as well so what are you saying….so I think it not just right to condemn deep religious people base on their beliefs or ideology everyone has their own different views of opinion towards life… Still in the same sense it is true that some religious leaders use prayers to cover up or avoid speaking the truth to power and that I will said is not what the father in heaven will agree to…the big problem at hand is how some people misunderstood this religion of a thing…do you know that a friend of mine stop going to church because a pastor told him how to give to God like even in the bible God never disrespected anyone offerings mostly the poor so you can see how some pastors and traditional worshiper are taken given as a means of survivors… It would be best if we should criticize our bad leadership, even the bad ones in the religious setting…

I have watched a short YouTube video where the exact same man of God was saying that Nigeria as a nation is made to be prayer warriors not made to be a developed nation like others such as China and in a very funny manner, said we have no business with science and technology. He actually said, with full confidence, that all God wants from us is to preach the Gospel. But the hypocrite has his own family living in Canada as permanent residents with a comfortable life that was achieved through breakthroughs in science and technology. We are really lost in this nation and all these fake men of God who preach nonsense to their congregations are the reason why we are still where we are as a nation

FYI, people who are too religious doesn't cogitate things differently from their religious context. Get me correctly, I'm laying emphasis on "too religious people" I guess you understand better now. I do not argue that there are no religious people who are professionals outside the religious ground but they possess same mentality. Let's take Christianity as a case study, do you see how churches are scattered in every nook and cranny of the society? That is how their doctrines differs and it is almost difficult for them to convince one another on things outside their doctrines. Still in the same sense it is true that some religious leaders use prayers to cover up or avoid speaking the truth to power and that I will said is not what the father in heaven will agree to…the big problem at hand is how some people misunderstood this religion of a thing…do you know that a friend of mine stop going to church because a pastor told him how to give to God like even in the bible God never disrespected anyone offerings mostly the poor so you can see how some pastors and traditional worshiper are taken given as a means of survivors…

Nobody is above criticism and correction where necessary. If the government does bad, we will criticise them likewise religious leaders. I think religious leaders are even more of the problems because most of them contradicts the teachings in the holy books.
