Series of cryptocurrency platforms have been hacked this year, and is not really a good sign. This has caused some of these platforms to withdraw their services as they have incured big financial loss as well as some investors. Sometimes am forced to ask if these platforms can be this vulnerable to attack, where is the safety of our investment, or does it mean they lack topnotch security measures to keep their fund safe, and also the funds of investors? However, I still think it is possible for these companies to improve on their security measures. When these kind of attack continue, it makes investors loose money, and send such platform to total or partial liquidation, and make investors to abscond for their own safety too. I can equally see the reasons why Bitcoin, and other cryptocurrency investors are warned not to keep large amount of their cryptocurrency asset with exchanges because they have been the main target of these scammers since they know there is always huge amount of fund in their exchange wallet. More also, I understand that there are some cryptocurrency exchanges that have incorporated cold wallet into their exchange platform, and has never been hacked since their inception, for instance Coinbase, and Kraken, I have not heard about any form of attack being unleashed on these platforms, and this has given users of these platforms great confidence in the safety of their cryptocurrency investing, and if the reason is because they have deployed the best safety measures, I think other cryptocurrency exchanges including gambling platforms should incorporate such safety measures too to keep their platform safe, and also ensure the safety of the users.

All these instances you spoke of here are man made, and can be avoided if those in charge of security in these top platforms are not unserious, careless or lack knowledge on how this scammers or hackers carries out their activities.

As for the inside threat you spoke of, it's still falls under theft, because if you place a thief as a gate keeper, you can be rest assured that you would be robbed in no distance time, so those are the lapses that needs to be taken out, because these scammers are only looking for a loopholes or inside information on how to strike, so a single act of careless or ignorance wouldn't be spared.
We’ll just as I used to say, scammers work tirelessly everyday to device new methods to outsmart people and breach their security, so in order to be on safer side, one also needs to be updated in security matters. Although there are some security breaches that we only learn when a victim has actually suffered some losses, so a hack or scam isn’t something we can always avoid no matter how sophisticated our systems are, but at least we can try as much as we can to avoid them by not being ignorant or careless.

Many holders underrate the importance of security until their investment is stolen from the same scam and phishing means they failed to learn. The value of education and information can never be compromised, especially in the case of bitcoin security because there will always be a smarter idea than the previous one that scammers will take advantage of.

Imagine a person using the same security system as ten years ago, or when bitcoin was created, and has failed to read more about security to stay updated? Such person will easily fall victim for these recent scam strategy because scammers make it look more legit now and almost impossible to detect it's a scam.

Scammers are not special people, they only do what other people don't and play on their knowledge and take their property. Like for instance, a person that is into Bitcoin learn about how to back up private keys and know what wallet to use and the ones not to use and the person that is into Bitcoin and don't know any of these can lose everything to a person that know all of they play on their intelligence on crypto.

If you want to he ahead of scammers, you have to make sure to be updated about what is current about crypto. You need to learn things to protect yourself from them.

Well doing what others can’t or don’t pretty much makes you special if you ask me…
But I do agree that scammers are just people, and the only thing that makes them seem special is that they are always patient, just like the predator, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike their prey.

Sometimes staying updated on the latest schemes may not really be the only way to avoid being scammed, sometimes you gotta think like them, cos the best way to outsmart a thief is to think like them.

Sometimes, these hacks happen, not because the platform’s security firewalls aren’t good enough, but simply due to minor bugs, negligence or even insider threats that gradually becomes a loophole and these are what hackers thrive on.
You made a very good point here. However, these are what I suspected to have been responsible for must of these  hacks that has happened for the past few months now. And I believe if all these could be put into serious consideration by this various platforms, it will go along way in preventing similar situation from reoccurring again.

Indeed this year was never a good one at all for major crypto holders and I pray the Lord grant them the heart in bearing these lost. Maybe, this will remind us once again on how important we should take out security matters especially as bitcoin enthusiast. Because hackers isn't smiling anymore, any little chance or any possible loophole can cause one a costly mistake so let's be watchful.

What they should focus on right now is thoroughly reviewing their security systems and making sure they leave no stone unturned. If hackers are constantly looking for ways to break into these systems, then these platforms need to double down on their security and make it as strong as possible.
If those hackers were able to infiltrate their security system and steal money, that means they have been loopholes in their systems.  I don't really know how long they have waited for the opportunity to hack bitget but if there had been no lapses on their system, they wouldn't have succeeded in the first place. So there is an urgent need for all exchanges to double check their security system because we don't know which exchange could be hacked next.  If Bitget and bybit exchange could be hacked, then other smaller exchange need to start upgrading their security, study what caused the hack and crosscheck their systems for loopholes and fixed them quickly before they are exploited.

It's crazy how Billions has been lost by different companies to hackers just this year, for Duelbits and Payy Network, it could be that same group pulled the hit on me them, what's more crazy is that people would still trust CEX for storage or leave their rewards in crypto casinos, likely for Bitget users, their customer's fund is not affected so they'll gain access to it when the exchange might be done updating their security by covering loopholes that could give hackers access, even at that people shouldn't trust CEX no matter how they claim their security is strong and use open source noncustodial wallets that's back by a strong passphrase.

It's sad to say this year is the most hacked year ever by number, but not by money, because Bybit had the biggest hack ever in crypto last year, amounting to $1.5 billion. This year, it's Bybit exchange that is having the biggest hack of the year. Is it not bad that crypto exchange are the ones being targeted the most by hackers

This year alone, about 333 hacks have happened, amounting to $2.2 billion in people's money through the stealing of private keys, hot wallets, and hacking of exchanges.

Does it really matter  Roll Eyes, money are beign lost in both and you can say that its gets worse with count.

Also, from the look of things, it doesn’t  look like Centralized exchanges are the priority target anymore( i believe that’s what you meant when you mention exchange), they are after any possle loopholes that can be penetrated on any services and crypto space seem to be filled with alot of loopholes , includeing half baked projects

Op do well to bring to our notice the hacks wey don occur for this year alone but e go make sense to change the title to "Some of the hacks" instead of the initial title because e dey very obvious say these ones e bring no reach the ones wey Bitbaker bring. Nah just my observation. Again, e dey painful say as we dey try to learn about these hacks, e be say nah people hard earned monies go like that too.

The Bitget hack is currently the biggest hack that has happened this year, with the way things are going more hack may happen before the end of this year. Any company that wants to avoid being hacked should quickly double their security.

They can try but the hacsksi sn't preventable as far the system they're operating on encourageds it. It doesn't matter how big the exchange or projects get, in fact that's when they become more mouth watering target because of how much can be stolen if the hackers get successful. Hacks are always going to happen to all platforms so the only way to be safe is being in custody of your investments and not relying on any exchanges or platform to hold them for you.

The hacks are inevitable as even the best of platforms gets hacked and most of this sites are very vulnerable but they don't know it yet because they haven't been targeted. My advice, they should get insurance because when they can't pay their customers because of the hacke then that's the starting of their journey to collapsing.

It doesn't matter what they do, as far they use a central server that can be hacked into then every other defences aren't worth it. Staffs can be hacked, the exchange itself can be hacked, there are many ways.

I can agree that scammers are not special but it is better of if you say they learn the things you and I know in a different way because despite knowing certain things about bitcoin a little mistake you make will give them a very big advantage to scam you without you realizing yourself.

If you are updated about a certain information it doesn't keep you totally free from scammers, ByBit, Bitget and every other exchange and company that has been hacked has so many good updates and hardwares that to them can keep them safe from scammers but don't you imagine how they manage to break in and steal from them, they know what most of us don't know because they go to the extreme to get different equipments that will compromise most of the apps so they can penetrate.

You can protect yourself but the little things you choose to ignore will be the one that will make you to lose everything you have. You have to be smart, ready not to open links and ads you don't know about and try not to visit every site because they have different viruses that could break in any system they target on.

Coldcard hack over $116 million in Bitcoin from thousands of user addresses was lost. Read More.

KelpDAO hack and they lost total of $292M. Read More

Drift Protocol hack and they lost total of $285M. Read More.

Bitget hack and they lost total of $387.5M. Read More.

Bitcoin Depot hack and they lost total of $3.7M. Read More.

Grinex hack and they lost total of $13–15M. Read More.

Coinsbuy hack and they lost total of $8M. Read More.

Duelbits hack and they lost total of $7M. Read More. The information I got said that the same day Duelbits was hacked was the same day Payy Network was hacked and $1.8 million was stolen from them and minting also lost $2.3 million in unbacked tokens on the Meter network.

The Bitget hack is currently the biggest hack that has happened this year, with the way things are going more hack may happen before the end of this year.
Any company that wants to avoid being hacked should quickly double their security.
It’s been a sad year in the crypto space, the amount of hacks we’ve witnessed this year has been the most and when you realise it’s people’s hard earned money and years of sweat, hardwork and savings that’s gone down the drain.

This is one of the biggest downsides of the crypto space, this is another reminder we should take self custody and protecting our wallets very seriously. At all times, never assume nothing can/will happen.

This topic look like it is coming from a newbie. @SuperBitMan, you need to just accept that, I am not here to drag anything as some people will push me to.

Did you know that there are crypto hacks almost every week? And we are almost in October. The hacks that you reported on your topic are little to the crypto hacks that happened this year.
What SuperBitMan did is just to compile the crypto hacks that happened this year so that people who miss any of the hacks can get on track of all the hacks that happened this year once the they read his read. If there is any hack that happened that you are aware of and SuperBitMan did not include it in his thread you can tell him about the hack and share the link of the hack to him so that he can include it in his thread. And stop this your attitude of condemning people's post because there is no difference between this post and your recent post that was moved to off-topic which you called out igebotz asking him why he move your post to off-topic.

I can see that you have no brain. I posted about a conference, that does not need huge writeup it is a conference, what I think is that igebotz thought I wanted to use it to scam. Like I told him that it is not zero content unless he does not understand what bitcoin conference is.

If I want to compile lists of crypto hacks this year, it will take me days before I will finish. SuperBitMan should do his work by himself than me stressing myself for it. The topic is not up to 5% complete but you do not know that which I expect from someone like you.

It is also very shameful that you did not read this:
No, you can see $7 million and $8 million hacks among it. If you research about it, you will understand better. In January 2026 alone, there are over 100 crypto hacks.  In September 2026, there are hundreds of hacks that have happened.

If igebotz will give me 50 merits for it, I can compile the lists of the crypto hacks 2026.

Another one has happened:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5595622.msg67197956#msg67197956

Crypto hacks are happening almost all the time.

You are the one who does not have brain. SuperBitMan's post did not need much writeup aswell since he only compiled lists of all the major crypto hacks that happened this year which he is only aware of. Even after you later posted the link to the conference, igebotz did not move your post to the section where you initially posted it, so is clear that it is not because he, igebotz thought you wanted to use it to scam. If you cannot compile lists of crypto hacks that happened this year stop condemning someone that compiled lists of some major crypto hacks that happened this year.

Had the been you read where i told you if you know any crypto hack that happens this year and SuperBitMan did not include it in his post you would not have bring up this post.

With the increasing rate of hacks it is clear that they are not preventable otherwise a big exchange like Bitget which knows the possibilities of being hacked cannot be penetrated by hackers and if it continues like this it will greatly affect the reputation of crypto exchanges and other centralized platforms. Clearly centralized platforms are not safe to keep our coins, except for exchange purposes it is better to avoid leaving your coins and your keys in the custody of an exchange, aside from hacks if they go bankrupt your coins will also be affected. Better to rely on none custodial wallets for your peace of mind, despite the case of Coldcard, none custodial wallets are far safer to avoid being part of the many victims of hacked platforms.

From the data of hacks and scams in 2026, I found that most scams and hacks happened in DeFi and individuals highest losses happened in 2026 is CEX exchanges. Users were most affected by scams through phishing and social engineering attacks. I think if people follow some steps they can avoid almost all scams and hacks.

Using trusted HW and keeping seed phrase in a very secure place, checking the address, amount and network properly before making a transaction from the HW. It is best to keep 90% of the funds in cold storage and keep only 10% of the funds in a hot wallet. If it is a very large amount i recommend multisig.
