Salary increment is just another subtle way of stealing away the workers sense of reasoning because when you start complaining about economic hardship, they give you a pay rise with a proportional rise in inflation. That's how to know that it's not every additional income that easily makes an easier lifestyle. We work harder in more cases after realising that our income is no longer enough to sustain our responsibilities. When we succeed in getting an additional source of income, we already know that we're only chasing to meet an already difficult lifestyle which is why several increments in our income doesn't really cause any much savings or luxury lifestyle because you already have inflation to deal with.

Earning more money and being financially comfortable are two different situation in the present day global economy. that you are earning more than your previous salary doesn't always mean you're financially better off.

In reality, Someone can move from earning $500 to $1,000 a month and still feel like nothing really changed. the reason in most cases is that Rent also increases, food costs more, transportation gets more expensive, and suddenly that extra $500 doesn't feel like much anymore.

It begs the question, is increased income really a good measure of financial progress?

If your income keeps increasing but the things you need also keeps becoming more expensive, are you getting richer, or you're simply earning more money to maintain the same lifestyle?
In fact, there was a time when we lived a respectable life mentally and socially with comparatively less effort than we do today, but now both income and effort have increased, but due to the decrease in purchasing power, we are not able to enjoy its benefits. There has been a lot of competition in every sector of jobs or business, due to which the amount of money that can be saved is not increasing and even though our salaries have increased on paper, the real economic situation is not improving. So, I think that only income growth or savings growth is not a measure of economic progress.
I would say it was a lot easier back then when money was not the only thing we have to worry about. Now, money is slowly and gradually losing it's value and we are forced to spend way more money for the same goods. Even after salary hike, we still are not able to save some and the increase of prices is the main reason behind it. Inflation remains constant but the salary hike turns out to be much less than the actual inflation percentage so no matter what we do, we would remain in the same situation at least until we work the same job.

To fight inflation, job alone is not going to be enough and we need some extra side incomes. Most of our expenses should be fulfilled by that side income so we can save a part of our salary.

I quote the entire post together without answering your single question. What you said is really logical. If our income increases, the price of goods increases, and if that money runs out to meet many of our daily needs, then we are not really getting rich, but we are maintaining the same lifestyle, but we are working twice as hard as before. And the reason for this is the increase in the inflation rate. If we talk about my country, the rate of currency depreciation here is very high. On the other hand, the condition of the banking sector is very terrible, due to which we are facing a lot of problems economically. We have to struggle a lot to buy daily necessities. So even though we can earn twice as much as before, our lifestyle is not changing. And the people of the maximum countries in Asia are facing the same problem. I earn a lot more money now than before, but I have to take loans sometimes to run my daily life. This makes it clear that even after earning more money, how is my lifestyle?

It begs the question, is increased income really a good measure of financial progress?

Is increased income really a good measure of financial progress?

To answer it, I will open my checklist financial plan, because based on my experiences, increasive income is one of good indicator which show that we can increase our ability to generate money, but trust me those only one piece of the puzzle. Become rich not aboutamount of money we can earn but about strong and healthy financial condition, so stronger and healthier are better. I suggest you have persona cashflow record to evaluate your financial condition periodically.

Become better financially i think we should have increase in our purchasing power, our monthly or daily surplus increased, our net worth is growing, zero debt or at least my reliance on debt has decreased, my financial resilience powering upto withstand economic shock and we getting closer to the life goal we have set. If mostly the answer is positive then congratulation your financial condition have shown improvement.

Regarding maintain sam lefestyle, we should distinguish between an improvement in quality of life and lifestyle inflation. Even lifestyle inflation, not all bad, it can be tolerated as long as its improvement do not do not compromise financial foundations and long term goals.

That saying rings true, especially when inflation eats the raise before it ever reaches your daily life. Tracking real purchasing power instead of just the salary number seems like the honest way to know if you're actually getting ahead.

We may think that everyday that we try to increase our income and earn more money, we don't know that the money doesn't make any difference in our daily expenses. We are just working to maintain the same expenses until we reach our final day as human.

This is why we need to make investment, the person that use $1000 to buy Bitcoin in 2012 isn't the same person again in 2026. The person that is earning $3000 as wages in 2013 and earn $5000 today is in financial crisis because the $3000 back then has high purchasing power.
You're total correct.
People who depend only on higher wages without investing in something that protect purchasing power like individual who's running on a treadmill because they are still fully exposed to inflation, while the person who put $1,000 into asset like Bitcoin which have proven to be hedge against inflation are the one creating the foundation to secure their future due to how salary increases have proven to be lagging behind real costs, so the only lasting way out of the cycle is to turn part of each paycheck into something that can't be printed away like BTC, and also start a business that generates its own cash flow. Otherwise, anyone who doesn't practise this is just working harder to stay in the same position or lifestyle.

In the normal sense, if income increases, people's lives should definitely change, but even if income increases at present, in reality a person cannot bring about any major change in his life. One of the main reasons for this is that people's income is not increasing at the same rate as the price of daily necessities is increasing. When someone's salary increases, he will have the opportunity to buy a little more, but in reality, due to the increase in the price of goods, there is no opportunity to spend the extra money on any other work. In my opinion, even if the salary is increased for those who are salaried, it is not enough over time. If someone wants to change his lifestyle, then he must increase his income more than his expenses, which is possible through business or any other work, but it is not possible to change life with a limited salary.

Wages never rise on the same proportion living costs do. We are working for longer to sustain the same lifestyle, while many are decreasing their standards in order to survive. Meanwhile, there is a wealthy group on the top of the pyramid getting wealthier and welathier through public funds and benefits granted by governments. It means that in order for few to live in luxury doing nothing, many have to sacrifice themselvse.

But once people get their autonomy, the tendency is that things get better. Autonomy which can be accessed through technology, but also self-awareness. Technology is actually easy to achieve, while the most difficult aspect right now is self-awareness, since people don't want to think by themselves, constantly following the masses.

And following the masses mean doing the current system's maintenance where you work harder to maintain the same lifestyle.

People get excited when they get a raise in their income, because in reality you are earning more than you used too, but in the present economy you really don't feel the impact of your pay rise. The inflation in the economy right now is really affect your purchase power, so you earning a little high does not really change anything,  rather I agree that it just help maintain your present lifestyle.  It can be argued that an in in your income is definitely an improvement from what you used to earn,  UT comparing it to the present economy,  you are definitely in the same place or even less,  because all the money you earn are being eaten up by the inflation.

The prices of everything is getting higher that our income no longer can handle bills and this is because our incomes is not increasing but our living expenses is increasing. Cutting back on things you buy does not help matters because still other things will take the money from you. We now have to work multiple job because working just one job is not going to give you enough money to handle all your bills.

From the way things are going, if we keep worshipping money then we will never be satisfy because the more you need more money you will not get it that is why things are looking like we are always working to keep paying bills and our lifestyle is not moving forward. The value of money is not strong as it used to be and that is because of inflation. If you do not want to be controlled by money then you will have to find value in other things and enjoy the little you have.

Unfortunately, it's all true... We're putting in more and more effort, but we still can't maintain our previous standard of living. 🙋

Why is this happening? The global economy has been practically stagnating for the past ten years. Official statistics are trying to mask this catastrophe, but in fact, that's exactly what's happening.

Perhaps it's due to total digitalization. Oddly enough, digitalization hasn't led to increased productivity. People watch more YouTube and study less. People trade memes instead of building nuclear fusion reactors. I recently listened to an interview with Peter Till. He believes that scientific and technological progress has slowed down, and has been for quite some time. This explains why people are finding it so difficult to maintain their previous standard of living.

The situation is exacerbated by the collapse of globalization. The collapse of globalization means that the cost of all goods, work, and services will only rise. Inflation will eat away at people's incomes.  This immediately brings to mind the line from Alice in Wonderland about running twice as fast. However, running twice as fast is incredibly tiring. 🤷

It depends on your lifestyle how to live it, even though the income is now $1000 per month the lifestyle continues to increase so the additional increase is useless, you are more to live a luxurious life not financial progress.

This has become a trend in my country where they are on a meager salary but live like most of the money... with expensive house rent, willing to pay expensive cell phone installments, willing to pay car installments for the sake of a lifestyle to be seen by others, even though the bills every month are swollen.

Such people will not think of the rich in the future, let alone investment, which is important lifestyle first front so that others see that you have been successful already bought all of it with the goods purchased.

The old idea of a steadily planned life does not really exist in our modern generation anymore. Back in the days, our parents could easily plan their lives on a list base mode, like buying a house, then owning a car and putting up some funds in their savings for a comfortable retirement. But today the world moves like the speed of light and the market changes along with it and that makes even the regular bills jump to high rates, so you can never just sit back and relax, you have to constantly earn more money to avoid emergency chaos that comes up every now and then.

From my own point of view, I don't see increased income as a means of financial progress when you have responsibility pilling up or increasing. When increase income becomes success, is when you begin to manage your responsibility or spending habits in other not to outweigh or overtake your your income. Sometimes even if things are expensive in the market, there is a way you spend by minimizing your expenses, you will be able to manage your income properly and become successful. The goal is to spend less and gain more to succeed not the other way around.

The reason behind this is due to the economy state, currently the economy is very bad and if anyone falls into a low standard plan this will affect the person financially. The increase salary will help, not to an extend reason why people who don’t fall into the category of politicians might find it difficult surviving despite the working effort applied, it’s better to work hard and maintain the lifestyle because there’s nothing else to do in order to live a normal life. For a fact multi task is far preferable than an increase salary, although a lot of individuals with multi task skill still find it difficult, all this is as a result of poor economy state.

If you are having increased income but you are still struggling to pay your rising bills due to inflation, then it can never be considered financial progress. The only way you can tell that you have achieved financial progress is when you are no longer panic when emergencies happen because those are already minor inconveniences for you.

Because what you have in your bank account is more than the total amount of your debt or expenses, and worrying is no longer in the picture but you start enjoying financial progress more than feeling stressful on how to pay your monthly bills and maintain your same lifestyle.

Indicators of nominal population income growth are often used by politicians for populist purposes. In reality, the purchasing power of money simultaneously declines due to inflation, and as a result, the population only becomes poorer. This is happening all over the world.

It turns out that the average, not very wealthy person is forced to run just to stay in place, that is, to maintain their standard of living. And this "running like a squirrel in a wheel" is presented as the norm. In fact, this is unnatural. But people are forced to live like this because there is simply no other option.

I will say this is your important thought because you have highlighted the real points. ‌Currently, the standard of living of people is not improving, the only reason why it is not improving is that the prices of daily necessities have doubled. I think we do not need to go far to understand these issues, if we look at the price of fuel oil as an example, then perhaps everyone will get an idea of how challenging the standard of living of people is currently. The price of fuel oil has doubled but the income of people has not doubled. If some people's income has increased, then their standard of living is the same as before, but the standard of living of those whose income has not increased or whose income has increased only slightly has decreased because the price of fuel oil has doubled.
No matter how people cope with the current situation, more difficult times are going to come for people because if people's income does not increase or their income increases slightly, on the contrary, if the prices of fuel oil and other daily necessities continue to increase in this way, then living a normal life will become very difficult for people.

Having an increase in income doesn’t always guarantee that you are financially stable. Why? It’s because of the reality of what’s happening in our economy lately. A salary increase doesn’t always make a significant difference because other expenses continue to increase due to higher inflation rates. That’s why salary or other sources of income should increase accordingly so we can keep up with the expenses we need to sustain.
Also, if you really want to build a good amount of savings and investments, you should live within your means. We don’t have to upgrade our lifestyle every time we receive an increase in salary, earn from a side hustle, or make more money from a business. We shouldn’t feel the need to spend more just because we are earning more.
You are overlooking the temptations and opportunities that surround us every day. After all, how can one resist buying a new, modern phone when a salary increase makes it possible? That is why far from everyone maintains their old lifestyle when their financial situation improves. There are so many things around us that it is simply impossible to resist, isn't it?

Not everyone is capable of leading an ascetic lifestyle, either. It takes iron willpower and discipline to avoid excessive spending. Even the desire to eat better than before kicks in.

If you give an example where your income is increasing but you don’t see any improvement in your financial situation, then the problem is probably with you, because you’re trying to improve your standard of living much faster than your finances allow. First you need to lower your expectations a little and build up some capital that you can manage and use to generate even more income. Only after that should you move to a bigger place, start buying more expensive things, and so on.

You don’t have to live an ascetic lifestyle. You can live normally without spending your entire paycheck. I know people who do this, I used to do it myself back when things were more stable and I had far fewer obligations, financial ones included. People do this when they have a major, overarching goal, like saving for a home. And the thought that each day brings you closer to that goal gives you the strength to cut back on certain things, knowing that in the end you’ll get something you never could have achieved by spending down to zero. Nowadays, though, it’s exceptionally hard to do because money is losing its value at such an insane pace.
