What will people say" mentality is very absurd... If you don't have why the shame..The truth is that the person you are even afraid of may not even have your time simply because he or she is even focused on their own business elsewhere...These same people opinions don't put food on your table neither does it even pay your bill, I mean how weird can folks even be at times? Entrepreneurship is just the best honestly...Even big time entrepreneurs today started from somewhere, and so regardless of how small that business you are starting with is, it is better you start from somewhere and then upscale as you go... It really a shame to see graduates nowadays doing nothing all because they think their is unemployment..Just take the risk and start form somewhere...

Yeah, in this part of the world many people keep saying that they won't start a business because they are afraid of what people will say. But I keep asking them that are they doing that business to impress people or they are doing it in other to create a source of income from there? Sometimes I feel that most people lack sense of reasoning, personally whatever thing I want to do I don't care what people will say so long as the business is suitable for me or that's the business my instincts tells me to start I will start it without looking at anybody's face as a matter of fact, I raised the capital myself not them.

If you are ashamed what will people have to say, why compromised your job then? You don't have to leave your job so you can start a new business, that kind of mindset will put you into future regrets. And if we are talking just a small business here, then just hire a trusted person that will work on your business while you are still working on your traditional job, that way you won't be afraid losing one of them because you still have your job even if your business does not thrive.

This is just a matter of mind setting. Your life, your choices. You don't have to feel ashamed because we all have different means to navigate life and achieve financial freedom.

Maybe some people fall into this category but I don't think it is the case for most people. Most individuals fail to go into entrepreneurial practice because of fear of losing. Business is not as easy as you think. I remember sometimes earlier last year when I invested all my penny into a business, guess what? The business didn't work as planned and I lost everything. It was such a difficult time for me and I have also learnt from it. If I had to start all over again I believe I'll do better.

Many at times businesses fail just like mine did, and if you were my friend or relative who witnessed the outcome of my business, you'll definitely have the fear that you may fail if you go into any business. And that is the major reason why people miss their opportunity, because they believe your fate is their fate.

I don't tell anyone at the beginning that you should quit your job and start a business. You can do business during the extra time you have besides working if there is an opportunity. Before starting a business, you should business with a product or service that you have some idea about. Or the person who is starting a business has an interest in. If you don't like your work then you won't be able to try with the best output. Maybe you can give up if you don't make a profit for a few days.

It may be that one lives in a society where educated people work or everyone in the family is in a good position. If someone leaves a good job and starts a small business and gets  lot of profit from it or has enough potential for that business to grow in the future then many in the family or society may criticize that leaving a good job and starting a small business is not right.

But I personally don't think that we should change wishes or dreams depending on people opinions. If I talk about my society, then I have many acquaintances who have studied have certificates but are not getting good job. Some have started small businesses, some are starting low paying job, many are still unemployed. But here it is very normal for us to do some kind of job or get involved in business. Because in our society most people are very poor and have to struggle a lot to spend for daily needs.

I don't agree with this. Just "WHAT WILL PEOPLE SAY" can't be a reason why many people would abandon their ambition for a 9-5 job, there must be more reasonable reason for that. Being afraid or shy is real, and could prevent some people from taking a bold step, but the number of people this could affect is slim.

I believe more reasons prevent people from talking steps in this regard, which could be procrastination, lack of self-belief, and inadequacy, which is not limited to financial inadequacy.

The biggest reason why this is said in starting a business is that a person has to struggle towards starting a business and has to do the work that an employee does himself, for this a person thinks what people will say. "What will people say" I don't understand this thought process. I mean, seriously? That's way outside of the box mindset when building your own business. Because the first thing to worry and question is that, will their idea going to sell? Who gives an F when one is covered with dirt and sweat and earning more than those who worked in an office with a nice suit and tie?

To be fair, not all street food vendors earn more than with those PhD and everyone who works 9-5. There is always a reason why we've seen only a few street vendors who consistently sell and make their business afloat.
I don't think shame is the primary reason why a lot of people are afraid of starting their own. Some people aren't just good at business and their better off working for someone to be financially stable.

Business is simply not for everyone. There is far more risk than just being "ashamed" of the kind of business model one is planning to build. If shame is the primary thing that's stopping them from starting their own, they would most likely fail, and they should just stick to their 9-5 with a nice suit and tie.

If anyone in this world today still thinks about what people will say when it comes to making better amount of money they don't know what they are doing, and it's kinda surprising hearing thing right now.

In my country people are so desperate to do anything  for Money, they have all turned shameless that they will do the impossible jobs to secure better payments, so what will people say sounds somehow to me.

Whenever you want to take a new step in life, you shouldn't be afraid or bother about "what people are going to say". They should keep their opinions to themselves or use it to grow their own lives if possible. As long as what you are about to do is legal, profitable and its going to be beneficial to you, bring growth to your life and it is also going to add value to your life, just ignore those rumour mongers, backbitters/ wet blankets, and focus on building your future, because no matter what you do in this life whether you are doing the right thing or wrong, people will always have something to say. You are not in the world to please anybody, just do whatever you think is right, because if you try to please the world, you will die quickly.

I don't think that most people that are procrastinating on starting their own business are doing so because they are afraid of what people might say, what I personally think that are stopping most people is the fear of the unknown, like how things might play out, or how are they going to start, because in life, the starting point is the most difficult stage in what ever you find yourself doing, that's why starting when you have the resources and knowledge to do so is very important, because the more you drag your feet without starting, it's the more it seems very different to start.

This may be relevant in societies with strong horizontal ties. In atomized societies, the dependence on public opinion is much weaker. Although I think it would be more accurate to phrase it not as "what will people say", but as "fear of failure". That is indeed a very strong limiting factor. Because there may be no second chance. And by the way, this often happens; people just avoid talking about it (no one likes to talk about their failures), and they talk about the few successful people who recovered even after a collapse, and other such unique cases.

P.S. By the way, I don’t believe you can get rich selling street food. It’s not even really a business, more like self‑employment. Even cafes are unprofitable right now, let alone the restaurant business. Why? Yes, because the era of delivery has arrived! Why are cafes still operating then? Well, it’s simple - cafes are a great structure for laundering money from drug trafficking. That’s basically what’s happening. Or does anyone still think that a bunch of dingy eateries exist because they’re making insane profits?

As a business owner or someone that wants to start up a business, when you put the fear of people's opinions in your mind can lead you to many failures in life, if at all you already have a useful skills and a meaniful plans and ideas, you don't need to wait for anybody's opinions before starting. Even if the amounts is little, start from there and continue building it gradually for long-term, build a good relationship with your customers and know what it means by management of cashflow, But what really matters the most is, having a mindset of starting anywhere and have a confidence and faith to accept any kinds of lost,because every business is full of risks and no one has right to control your business, you the only one responsible for every steps you take throughout the journey

I think one thing that discourages some educated people from engaging in certain business is pride, they don't want people to see them as ordinary people, they want to look good every time in their shinning clothes, they want to be in another person's office earning salary from their while they look good. But the truth remains if you put the same effort, and time you are giving to your own employer to developing yourself, you will quickly grow, and achieve your financial goals, and objectives. I know that building a business from the beginning can sometimes be very challenging, but scaling through those challenges is your way to success, besides your employer controls your time. Some employees work almost every day of the week with very low salary, but with your own business you control your time, at the same time your business.
