Renaming AI as SI

I do not think the world will adopt that.

Trump called the AI tech giants Sam Altman/Greg Brockman, Dario Amodei, Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg, Jensen Huang, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Satya Nadella, Alex Karp, Lisa Su on the 29th of September to discuss about how AI can remain safe for humanity.

But the way he talked about changing AI to SI (Super Intelligence) is somehow as if AI is not fit for it. Is it necessary to change the name?

I think Trump is doing all things that will not make his name to be forgotten. Politically I have noticed this about him.

Luckily this time around, we have some very good competitions and alternatives from China, and it would have even been much better if more countries had joined this artificial intelligence race sooner. Same goes for Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo or BYD. Without them, how much would we be shelling out, and how many people would even get a shot at owning a smartphone? We kinda owe China a thank you. Without them we'd be paying through the nose, thanks to the monopoly and tyranny of so called elite Western tech.LOL

But I'm not too optimistic about more countries jumping into the AI race. So far, China is the only one that can really compete with the US.

The name does not matter at all. AI, SI, and whatever name that will originate in the future do not change the fact that the technology is advanced.

I still prefer AI over SI. The intelligence is artificial, not natural. Super Intelligence, on the other hand, can be artificial or natural.

Trump may have said that to get the attention of people, but it isn't anything personal to him. I believe we are reading more meaning into what he says, while he sometimes says those words for mere entertainment.

However, the .si domain zone is the official national domain of Slovenia, which is currently experiencing an unprecedented boom thanks to Trump.

Maybe Mr. President bought all the major website names on the .si domain and is selling them? And then he'll say we're going back to .ai?

He has already gone down in history as the strangest US president ever, and no one will remember him for anything good or meaningful. He dragged the US into an even deeper financial abyss, started a war that he cannot win, destroyed alliances created for decades, and now all he has to do is to get even more rich personally and change the names of rivers, lakes, etc.

It would be so terrible. It already was before DeepSeek, Z.ai, Qwen and Kimi became so popular. Their subscription plans are just too high compared to the Chinese counterparts.

They fought the Japanese tech dominance so hard and ended up making Japan their puppet. China is the right now the new saviour 

But I'm not too optimistic about more countries jumping into the AI race. So far, China is the only one that can really compete with the US.

A number of countries can join in and stop the overdependence. Russia, India, Iran, and some South American and African countries. It's all about breaking the chain of dependence.

What Trump is doing is not necessary. He wanted himself to be remembered in the future is exactly what he is doing. I think Trump is pained that people are not using SI.

Nope.
It's just an executive order telling US government agencies to use SI instead of AI in their own communications and documents. It doesn't apply to companies or regular users, and it has no legal effect on them.

So basically nothing changes.

Yep, definitely. Like I said, it only applies to US government departments and agencies.

Besides, it's just an executive order signed by the sitting president, and another president can revoke it.  I doubt private companies or orgs adopting the term when it can get reversed anytime.

Nope.
It's just an executive order telling US government agencies to use SI instead of AI in their own communications and documents. It doesn't apply to companies or regular users, and it has no legal effect on them.

So basically nothing changes.

There was no exemption for anyone.

Trump used the word "anyone," not any agency. This includes individuals, organisations, private institutions and government institutions.

What he is enforcing on everyone doesn't make sense at all. Someone used to saying AI can't start saying SI fluently overnight. I doubt if he has gotten used to the SI.
