Issues related to match fixing is what make most the gamblers not to always admit for playing small leagues is because of the issues related to match fixing, but I still don't want to believe all this because some of those allegations does not even have claims to prove the truly happen in real life, it is better we just gamble for fun and erase our mind of all these.
I'm not really sure match fixing happens because I have no proof whatsoever but I don't think playing small leagues keeps gamblers safe from this, as a matter of fact it is easy for match fixing to done in leagues that are not really prominent because there is going to be less scrutiny. A lot of times what most gamblers take as fixed matches isn't exactly that way, the game just turned out to have a particular outcome doesn't exactly mean that it was fixed. This has been a major discussion or debate about betting for a very long time. Match-fixing is happening; there is no argument about this, but it's having deep connections. Just because of this, it's not highlighted, as its needed influence is working, and money is also playing its role. Many small leagues are having enough space for this; even some years back, it also had connections in big leagues, but now due to strict rules and laws, it's not going like this. Just because of match-fixing, many are using tactics and taking good advantage of this because there are enough people who want free money, and they usually make mistakes sending money where it's not helping them or anyone; scammers are just making them fools for taking their money. Sports bodies are doing their work, but still it's not completely ended because bad minds are doing their things and making sports worse for their own interests.

When match fixing allegations were confirmed was there a serious punishment? A slap on the wrist? Nothing?
In the world of sport, the penalties for perpetrators of cheating or match fixing vary greatly, depending on the level of the offense committed, if cheating or match fixing occurs in the world of football, the punishment given includes sanctions from the federation. In my country, if you are proven to have cheated on match fixing, you can be banned for life in the form of being inactive and prohibited from being involved in the world of football, whether for club owners, referees, administrators and so on, this applies to those who are provencarry out football mafia actions. And other sanctions that apply in the world of football in my country include fines, bans from entering stadiums or prison sentences when proven to have committed criminal acts of bribery and match fixing, if cases like the one OP said are proven to be fraudulent match fixing, but only a two-point deduction for the perpetrator, clearly that is not the punishment that should occur in a match-fixing case, it is the same as a lie.

When it comes to purnishement, you have to do it such in a way that the underlying desire to do that thing becomes very unattractive that no one will dear do it again. Take for instance the two points that was deducted, the gain to do the fix match far out ways the purnishement. What will stop them from doing it again, after all the committee will just remove two points. There is more room for more clubs to do this and get away with it. The purnishement is not worth backing out for more fixed matches.
You asked the right question: what will stop them from doing it again? How will it stop others? It's only possible if the punishment is so strict that nobody will think about doing it... So, it's only a matter of time before they do it again... When they get just a "slap on the wrist", they are not afraid of getting caught. I believe there's a lot of match-fixing in my country. When we live in a corrupt country, that corruption spreads to everything... so how can we expect to have a healthy sport?

This will forever be a big issue and it's as always, money rules the world. Do we actually believe for example that Manchester City will get relegated? I mean they should be, that's the least what should happen to them. Yet this won't happen and best case scenario for them they lose some points and have to pay a fine (what their owners will only laugh at). Big teams will always get the beneficial treatment because the league knows how important they are for the business of the league. People want to see big names, they pay good money for that and of you ban those teams this will mean less money. Terrible circle but it is what it is. Same with other sports. Let7s take Yannick Sinner, he was tested positive for some whatever stuff in his body which was on the doping lost. At this point he was the number 1 in the world. Well, some number 150 or whatever would have gotten a 2 year suspension, he only got some months because a scandal like this would harm tennis a lot.
Whatever you go, wherever you look, it's always the same.

I am surprised the incident the OP is talking about happened in Greece's top-flight league. The Super League Greece is well known and even has a representative in UEFA. This shows that match-fixing can happen anywhere. These illegal activities could kill the beautiful game of football. That is why football governing bodies should harshly sanction those involved. If fans and gamblers lose trust in a league, then they are finished. They will lose sponsorship deals and viewership.

A couple of seasons ago a Swedish footballer in Greece accused the team of a rich mogul that they were fixing matches, even citing specific examples about the play out games on the country's top league.
So, why don't you tell the whole story - the assumed match-fixing was between two teams both relegated that shared the points - there was no actual proof of that happening other than personal testimonies - any other teams would have done the same that happened even in FIFA matches where they knew sharing the points was better - the team is last with -1 point after 5 games https://www.protothema.gr/sports/article/1887787/afairesi-trion-vathmon-kai-prostimo-sto-volo-apo-tin-epitropi-deodologias/Why do you make your topics on purpose like this?

I will add an extra layer to your point here. Small league mean fixed match it certainly cannot be said. However limited media coverage and fewer integrity resource lead to delay in detecting suspicious activity. And we shouldn't call it fixing just by looking at final score. A 3-0 or 0-3 result is not proof in itself. Interesting aspect of recent Volos-Panserraikos case is that, alongside allegation, reports of suspicious activity stemming from betting market monitoring also came to light. And later Hellenic Federation punished both clubs. Therefore simply avoiding small leagues is not solution. Instead real factors to consider are league liquidity, market movement, team news, unusual odds fluctuation and subsequent official investigation.

Bad minds are doing their job with currently its one of the worst thing many leagues are facing things like these but mostly are lower rank I was also surprised while I read about Greece Super League is also having this issue and their authorities are completely fail to bring legislation this could be worst for them. Sports always have love respect and dignity but things like these are bringing opposite UEFA surely going to be have their way to handle because its going to be increase things which are surely against the spirt of sports recently I read few columns about match fixing and their consequences because now scammers are also having free hands they are giving fake reports and relative stuff for having money from peoples those want to enjoy free money from these fixed games.

Cheaters need suspended for life and maximum jail sentences IMO. In this case the owner, 2 presidents of different operations, and a player should have been gone for life.
Agreed, life suspension is the only harsh consequences that can instill fear in the life of those players, sports organizers and teams directors that secretly carry out these practices, whether it's a local or international team, the consequences should be the same, that's how to prevent it from reoccurring because they would now have the fear that they can lose their career if they get caught. Although the corruption in some jurisdictions makes it possible for some of the culprits to escape receiving such punishment. In my place, there has not been such news before but I don't trust that the teams here have not done it before, some team might have secretly escaped being caught.

Life suspension should be the minimum IMO. If the money is enough then it would not deter someone from cheating. They'll take their suspension and still be rich. Harsh jail time and substantial fines need to be imposed as well.

That's very lenient. Seeing it as only a two-point reduction? It deserves more, or maybe a punishment similar to what other countries use.
I think some countries have player bans and criminal prosecutions. Maybe that's what they could do. These types of scandals should be dealt with more harshly to make sure they don't happen again.
Well, it might never happen. Preferential treatment seems to be given to big league teams. Money is a big player here. The two points reduction was just to ease the minds of people a little bit. If they haven't given them any purnishement for such actions, it would raise eyebrows. What I think is that they should punishment the core person behind it instead of them punishing the whole team. Pretty sure it's either one, two at most four persons that engage in such act.

Even players that gamble for fun take match fixing seriously because even though they don't really take making profit from gambling seriously no one likes to feel cheated. I gamble for fun but whenever I hear that a specific game I put my money on was fixed it pisses me off when I lose. Like you said, most of us only hear about these matches that are being fixed, we don't really have any proof of this. But I think that this can happen in both major leagues and small leagues as well.

Gambling for fun wouldn't stop the fact that the owners of the teams in the small football league do fix their matches for their own personal gain. And the more this kind of attitude persist in those leagues, the more gambling on such teams will be at owners risk, since those teams won't be performing base on individual performance, but base on the match that have already been fixed by the owners of those teams. So gambling for fun wouldn't stop that fix matches exist, as the only and best way to avoid such scenario is to completely avoid leagues where fix matches are prone to occur.

Has something like this happened in your country's league?
Well from what I know, it has not been made open at least to the best of my knowledge but I'm quite sure there is match fixing in my own country's football league. It has been in the rhyme of speculation and all that but I know it do exist because away teams will hardly win home teams. I have also noticed that some football lovers have group where they share information about something like that for theirselves and they stake higher than what they normally stake and cash out hugely in those days which is probably possible that there is a secret that they don't disclose outside When match fixing allegations were confirmed was there a serious punishment? A slap on the wrist? Nothing?
Match fixing offence should not be taken lightly because it is the fabric of the game. A punitive and serious penalty should be given to any offender to scare others who have such intention. Unfortunately, I have not confirmed any of such in my country.

Has something like this happened in your country's league? I haven’t heard of this type of thing happening in my country’s league before. However I think that there should have been more severe consequences for this happening and since this was just a slap on the wrist, it will not be strong enough to serve as a deterrent to others who are already secretly involved in match fixing. It is a serious offense that shouldn’t be treated with kid’s gloves.

A couple of seasons ago a Swedish footballer in Greece accused the team of a rich mogul that they were fixing matches, even citing specific examples about the play out games on the country's top league.
The issue took two years for the league's ethics committee to deliver a verdict and the verdict was just... A deduction of two points for the current season which has already started. Which is so crazy to me. How can a team be proven to fix a match and get away with anything other than severe sanctions? That owner should be barred from owning a team in the top league for at least a handful of years in my opinion. But when football becomes all about the money match fixing can be the norm I guess.
Some Greek teams might be actually good in terms of international play after having millions pumped to enrich their roster recently but that doesn't mean that the local league's should be considered fair. I sure as hell wouldn't trust my own country's league with much in betting money if they aren't caring enough to squash match fixing.

This side of football that annoys me the most, it's no longer pure, and even that barring of the owner won't do him any harm has he can still make a purchase through filtering money from a shell company like Man City boss did for there allegation, but punishment like banning can send a message. Things like this that makes me laugh when people say Man City will face relegation or tittle bans, same as this case, they will only be given points deductions. That's the sad reality.

Deduction of only two point for proven match fixing is clear insult to sport and to everyone who bets on that league. Consider the lifetime ban imposed in cricket. Also could you remember sumo scandal? When damages for fixing match is so short that any affluent owner can smoothly absorb it, then message is very clear. Fix matches to your heart's content, this fine is merely a routine business expense.

On a serious note, two points deductions on match fixing accusations and after even investigations has proven that the aligations were right. The highest penalities were two points deductions which means in reality that there is nothing wrong with all the malpractice that were done by the club or clubs involved. If this is true about the Greek league then it's an invitation for anachy because, if those who has been found guilty of match fixing are not given heavy penalities others can see it as an avenue to commit such crime.
This judgment just shows how unfair the system can be and how some teams and owners can be in lesser situations and be punished more severely than what these people are facing. This unfairness we talk about is common everywhere. Knowing the right person in a particular office can make you get away with something that could have killed the creator of your club.

Game fixing is a serious offense here in our country. The regulators will give an individual or a team a heavy penalty and possible revocation of licenses and franchise, sports organizations where members are found guilty of game fixing will lose their reputation, and the public will stop supporting the events. The sports commission should not impose light penalties, or there's going to be a repeat of the offense. It was indeed a serious offense mate and it doesn't matter if which country we are residing. But it is just that there are some corrupt individuals that are being bribed, or they negotiate with some club owners/teams or players in order to fix the upcoming match because they are also betting a huge amount of money under them. It is possible too that they (club owners/teams or players) are the ones that are being given a tip after. If proven that it was truly the case, then it will only be with us now regular individuals. We are the ones that should be vigilant and not support that kind of activities. That should help to discourage them from repeating the same thing.

I don't follow my local league matches, though we cannot tell if there is no match fixing, small leagues are more prone to match fixing. The allegation I can remember is an old story that happened some years ago, though I didn't keep up till the verdict. A slap on the wrist is a soft punishment, if this is the only punishment, other teams wouldn't mind doing the same because taking away two points alone won't harm them, especially when they are among the big clubs in the league. Seeing this thread, I look forward to the punishment Manchester City will receive after hearing the verdict.
