Which is so crazy to me. How can a team be proven to fix a match and get away with anything other than severe sanctions? That owner should be barred from owning a team in the top league for at least a handful of years in my opinion. But when football becomes all about the money match fixing can be the norm I guess.

The majority of the funds flowing into Greece is coming from that team, and it is the reason why the Greece committee in charge of enforcing the law for offenders of the league rules failed to give the right verdict. Similar to the news I was watching today, some Arabic partners of the Premier League have claimed that they will withdraw their shares from the English league. It serves as a threat to the alleged accusations against Manchester City. Corruption is everywhere, including the big leagues

Has something like this happened in your country's league?
When match fixing allegations were confirmed was there a serious punishment? A slap on the wrist? Nothing?

There is this saying. "Everyone is innocent until they are caught". I don't know if things like this happen in my country's league, but just as the saying goes, it is when they are caught that we will know if it happens or not.

A couple of seasons ago a Swedish footballer in Greece accused the team of a rich mogul that they were fixing matches, even citing specific examples about the play out games on the country's top league.

The issue took two years for the league's ethics committee to deliver a verdict and the verdict was just... A deduction of two points for the current season which has already started.

The 2 point deduction without other sanctions wont have an impact and this feels funny when it has been proven guilty and still given leniency. The reduction of 2 points is not comparable to the 2-year investigation carried out lol.

But precisely with this case I realize that when a club has a big privilege then the possibility of offending it will be a little difficult and from this case I am curious about the case of Manchester City now (a little out of topic but the case feels almost the same). They have been proven with 114 bans and when the sanctions are light then this will relate to the sanctions given by the federation in the league you tell.

Op, you should have shared the name of the player and the club so that anyone who's interested in reading more about it  can easily search up for it. Well, I'm not sure now, but the name 'Daniel Sundgren' was what I found online. And from what I saw, a certain club named Volos NFC was the alleged club involved.

So, it turns out that they were involved, but only got a 2 point deduction?... That's some bullshit right there.
Justice wasn't served in anyway if you ask me. A player risking his job just to expose the wrongdoing of a football club, but the supposed disciplinary board couldn't even make the punishment worth it, even for the general wellbeing of the entire league. Things like this are practically what kills a league, as some clubs begin to see reasons to break the same rules.

This whole thing is giving the "if you have enough money then you can cheat and pay your way out of it" vibe, and if this extends to other teams and leagues then they should just know that this is the end of football, because a lot of people have been speculating match fixing in big leagues while some have been defending against such claims and now they are opening tolerating it and not showing a strong stance (the punishment shows that they are not truly against it) and this will be a huge blow to them in the future and it will definitely lead to something that they would regret because others would join in and also threaten with finance too leaving them defenseless since they are already treating this one like this.

We commonly encounter match-fixing in games that do not receive public attention. And the news will become a topic of conversation after going viral on social media. Therefore, I very rarely place bets on leagues like that, because betting might be like random, really just hoping for luck since match statistics may not really be useful. I think the situation might only occur in certain matches where there is a team that really needs an advantage. If a team that has been proven to engage in match-fixing only receives a light punishment, we can conclude how much influence the people behind the case have on the football federation in that country.
Match fixing can happen in any league but it's more common in games that people don't really pay attention to like you said especially the ones that are not televised. There are bettors that assume that betting on leagues that are not really popular means that they are going to avoid any sort of match fixing completely but that's totally wrong. In such leagues the matches can be easily manipulated and nothing would be done about it.

We don't really have a proof of match fixing, it is something we talk about but I think that if it is something that people have a clear evidence of a lot of leagues would have been sued for doing this.

I think it's not that there is no evidence, but the investigation process carried out by the relevant federation, which I think was not very serious. As the league organizers, they must have a match supervisory committee team. Their fight there, which I think, had little impact and tended to be more influenced by certain parties to turn a blind eye.

This made sense why the authority just deduct points and let go of the serious offense of that team.  Reminds me of the saying to not bite the hands that feed you lol.  Sense aside, the decision is very disappointing.  They should implement the law even if that team brings them huge money.  This simply shows that the regulatory board that handled the case are bought.

Yes there are cases in my country of game fixing.  The people involved are penalized badly like lifetime ban on the people involved. Here is the article about it: https://tempo.mb.com.ph/2026/07/30/mpbl-cancels-bacolod-season-players-coaches-banned/

That's very lenient. Seeing it as only a two-point reduction? It deserves more, or maybe a punishment similar to what other countries use.

I think some countries have player bans and criminal prosecutions. Maybe that's what they could do. These types of scandals should be dealt with more harshly to make sure they don't happen again.

I don't think either the slated course of actions for infringement of certain rules is the problem, I think it has to do with the influence that club boss has over the whole regulatory system governing there football practices and its quite pathetic with serious charges like that. This shows how immune money really make you.

I feel same punishment or similar will be handing out to Man City even with this there severe allegations, they may end up walking away with just points deduction where historical cases have shown that tittles should be stripped

I also have same feeling cause they've been found guilty of the numerous charges but then nothing has been done, it might even take nore than 2 years before their verdict woulc be given but it's very unfair cause Everton committed a crime lesser than what City did but where given a points deduction.
Manchester City's owner has some influence against the regulatory system of the Premier League, maybe they might even bribe their way out of the situation and given minor punishment for the heavy crime they committed, I heard they hired a team of good lawyers to defend them in court, I don't know how true but let's see how the case ends up.

The thing with punishments like this for a serious infraction is that it sets a very bad precedent, other teams are watching and now they know what to expect if they are caught match-fixing. It is always good to set an example with teams when they are caught breaking the rules, of course punishments would have to be commensurate with the infraction, and match fixing is a very serious one.

I think this kind of weak punishment is a result of the league where it happened. If a team was caught doing this in a major league, they would deinitely be relegated, coupled with other penalties.

Some Greek teams might be actually good in terms of international play after having millions pumped to enrich their roster recently but that doesn't mean that the local league's should be considered fair. I sure as hell wouldn't trust my own country's league with much in betting money if they aren't caring enough to squash match fixing.

Has something like this happened in your country's league?

It’s a shame that they would let this happen and even fix it that way. They must be placing some crazy bets on the team they have fixed up to win! What a rigged no good trickery!!! It’s just honor less & aggravating at the same time.

There's a lot of fuss about this. In football, there are many things that everyone disagrees with. Since the World Cup, we've seen things that nobody likes: bias, refereeing that showed corruption without needing investigations, the refereeing in La Liga, and the Manchester City case—that's what has made the biggest splash around the world.

Does football need a purge? Yes, absolutely. Corruption is not something that should be normalized or legalized. Sport is what has to prevail now.
