The taskforce that would enforce the law that nobody should be seen throwing waste into the gutters, where are they?
Yes, we as citizens have our role to play but the government should also set up institutions that would enforce and stop mostly market women from throwing waste into the gutters even sensitization on the dangers can go a long way.

The long and short of all of these is that the government plays the major role.

Indeed, the government plays a major role in the cause of the recent flood incident which happened in Rivers State this year, because ever since the Governor came back from suspension in late last year, he hasn't been able to take an decision by himself that will favour the common man. As everything in the state just seems on standby, except the monthly allocation that is been received from the Federal government and shared among Wike, Fubara and the rest of his cabinet in the Rivers State House of Assembly. Because had it been Fubara was still active the way he was early last year, I doubt this flood would have happened. Because immediately sanitation was seize and yet market women kept throwing refuse in the drainage, I knew that there was likely to be a flood. Including improper planning whereby even water walls are been sold for development.

Truly, the people of Rivers State is at the mercy of these Politicians, Godfatherism is killing this state everything is on standstill because of One man all they care about is sharing of state funds for their personal use. Because how can someone allocate a big construction like this ring road yet the drainage is not properly done.

Again, i ask who are those responsible for selling the lands that are marked as waterways? Because when you go for your land mapping at the local government headquarters they permit these lands and ask for payment

The canals and waterways have not been dredged and clear since this political toggle started.

Areas like Eneka, Rukpokwu, Rumuokoro, Oyibo just to mention a few is still flood till today as i am making this post because of the ring road that was poorly constructed, lives have been lost, properties damaged, thousand of houses in flood and thousands of people homeless.
Yet, the sitting administration is quiet about all this.

Most of the flood happening in this country is caused by government negligence, lack of proper drainage, and d existing drainage wey Dey no get proper maintenance na y dem Dey block be that. Money wey government suppose use do all this things, some group of people go seat for one place chop d money, dem no care about the effects of lack of drainage wey dem no provide, dem no care say people go lose their life’s and property if dem chop d money. This flood wey happen for our beloved city pitakwa na as a result of say our beloved governor fubara no fit concentrate on his governorship work, due to fight and problems here and there from wike. All the drainage for my area for pitakwa just block, but my happiness be say, I dy stay for near river, so the salt water river dy swallow all the rain water wey suppose worry the neighborhood.

Normally people go wan blame the government for things like this, but why I no too blame governor fubara for this matter be say them no gree an work freely, as him get for mind, because I believe say things like this for no ever happen if wike allow am do his work as governor of the state.

You said because of the ring road that was poorly constructed, ring road was never constructed it’s a failed project from Wike, and Fubara the present Governor wasn’t ready to continue with the project after the destruction of properties, anyways I don’t really know if that is the cause of the flood in Rivers State particularly in Port Harcourt. Flood is just like a Natural Disaster, it can happen to anyone, but some certain flood can be avoided by simply doing the right things to avoid such natural disaster from happening.

I have seen videos and clips of this natural disaster, but I have come to understand that port Harcourt lacks a proper drainage system, most of the drainage systems have been destroyed and it’s no longer working, after the destruction of properties they should have maintained the old drainage system, but thus things aren’t done because of lack of maintenance from the Rivers State Government.

However I don’t know if any money or palliative was given out to affected people and communities.

Flood is a natural disaster, and Rivers State isn't the only state that was flooded in Nigeria this year there are other States that was also affected by flood before River State, so I don't think it was the political unrest caused by former Rivers State governor Wike and the present Rivers State governor Sim that caused the flood in Rivers State. For you to say that the sitting administration is quite about the flood in Rivers State it means you didn't do you findings very well, because River States government sent flood relief materials to those affected by the flood.

Nigerians are literally the cause of their problems, because how would people litter garbage carelessly and not expect that it could block the drainage system? And when the flood happens, they would blame it all on the government for their incompetence. Everything is not a government problem, we have our own roles to play as citizens of a country too.

The way you guys are saying the deputy Governor gave money, did you confirm it? Or it was just a political propaganda.
I was affected by the flood and we didn't receive a dime from any deputy Governor.

That’s exactly why people need to verify information before spreading it. If the deputy Governor truly provided financial assistance to flood victims, there should be credible evidence and clear records of who benefited. Your experience raises a valid question, especially if you were directly affected and received nothing. We shouldn’t accept every political claim as fact without proper confirmation. Who actually received the money, and where is the evidence?

This is exactly what is it. We are in Nigeria and we know the level of corruption. Some persons on this post are claiming that those affected by the flood were compensated, which is a big lie because i and my family and all the people in my estates and surrounding my estates more that 100 houses was affected which connotes that more that 1000 persons were affected and yet i and my neighbours living at Eneka did not receive any compensation.

Personally and those of us that are permanent resident around the flooded areas don't even want monetary compensation but a permanent solution to this pandemic.

If this is true that you and your family inclusive of the neighbors didn't receive the said amount of money from the Rivers State government then it's very bad, but then where you aware of the money and went ahead to personels in charge to claim the money or before you realize it has already been shared?,  Nigerians will always want to made use of any given opportunity to acquire money, what's the essence of people that aren't affected by floor lying just to receive money?, leaving the original displaced persons stranded due to shortage of funds that would have been given to them that they collected.

Flooding is a natural disaster which we all know but most times it can be prevented if the individual clean their gutters and canals regularly especially raining season and stop dumping waste in them in other for water to floor properly. In all, sorry for your loss over the flood.

Flood is a natural disasters but i believe the recent one in the treasure base of the nation is actually caused by human being, ph is not been taken care aa before most of the drainage in the town has been block by waste bin, some other channels where water use to go through has been built houses all over while some pit also where water use to enter haa been cover with sand and build houses on it.
I believe it's better when looking for a house to rent in ph to be done during rainy season to know the bad and the right place to stay.

You're actually making sense on this, the whole drainage systems in this city is blocked and sometimes the drainage are not even property sited , to even imagine that some residents are contributing to it by throwing their waste and debris into the gutters to get then clog. Its really bad. Sometimes I keep wondering why they will keep Thursday morning as sanitation day, shops are closed but yet no where is being cleaned. No serious committee is set to monitor and inspect  to ensure that sanitation is being carried out properly. It is really important they look into the aspect.

I don't even have the strength to argue with you because you did not experience this flood that's why you can sit behind your phone and say that the sitting government didn't contribute to this flood. So who would enforce sanitation? Who would monitor and ensure that roads and drainages are properly built? The canals and drainages who would ensure they are not clogged? The people in charge of waste management who will ensure they are working? Have you been to some parts of Rivers State oga it is stinking because dustbin is everywhere exposed.

But is the flood relief materials been shared going to prevent the flood from happening next time? Because when we talked about the Rivers state government haven't done something, what we meant was practical steps to prevent thsi flood from happening again and again, and by that I mean inaugurating a committee that will monitor waterways and drainages in those areas that was affected, and also ensuring that people are not buying land and building houses on places that was meant to be waterways. Because it's only when people block channels where water was supposed to pass from a place of high land to low lands, thats when flood could arise. So those are the type of steps we expect to see from the government.

OP first of all I go say sorry for your property them wey you loss and some wey hope no dey to repair, sorry my brother and to other people wey e affect too. Now wey the flood don reduce or stop wetin be the next thing or way forward? All the money wey government them give that is if them give e go solve anything?
