Glad to have you here one more time! Glad to know you love Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd, too.

By the way, how's the GF? Did she say yes?

And, were you arrested in Japan?

Finally, did you also hodl HODL? And burned money in the end?

GameKyuubi, at best, seems like a shitcoiner.. but hey, it is never too late to come around to dee cornz... and surely there was a moment in time (such as a drunken stupor) that he did temporarily recognize/appreciate the value of HODL... and yeah, thanks for the new word... Even a shitcoiner can be a legend in bitcoinlandia.    Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

GameKyuubi is probably not an isolated case in Bitcoinlandia. There are certainly a handful other legends, perhaps more than a handful, who eventually turned into shitcoiners in the end.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to "non-custodial"

Many of us who have been in bitcoin and put bitcoin to actual practice realize that success in bitcoin comes from both HODL and ongoing, persistent, consistent, regular and perhaps even aggressive accumulation through buying (or perhaps earning) practices... So yeah, HODL is one part of the formula, yet HODL can really ONLY work if a reasonable decent sized stash is built.

Bitcoin always reward those that are patient to hold for long with some good number . That's why most time I'm always pained remembering the opportunity I missed then when I was still new to bitcoin. Thinking  it was some kind of Ponzi scheme because I didn’t understand the technology behind it. But the main thing is that I’m still here, and I’m going to make the best of it.

Congratulations for still being here, yet I think that there is an ongoing lesson that involves ongoing hesitation instead of action, and perhaps Gamekyuubi suffered from that same thing around the time of his drunken post from 13 years ago, and also he likely suffered from such ongoing hesitation since I doubt that he really became both a HODLer and an accumulator in a meaningful and material way... and yeah, ONLY he will really know the extent to which his ongoing hesitation had remained an issue.

I did not read any of the posts beyond the announcement of a #hodl coin which I did not pay much attention to. Bitcoinlandia is the land of the free  Cheesy

For sure bitcoinlandia is the land of the free, and there have been and continue to be consequences for guys who fail/refuse to sufficiently and adequately stack bitcoin, even when they have had opportunities over the years... and for sure the longer that a guy had been in bitcoin, the more he could have had gotten away with being whimpy in his bitcoin accumulation and still profitted quite well, even from such whimpiness.

Since about March 2020, I have ongoingly asserted that guys need to purposefully be more aggressive than they had been in the past, and even suggesting that it takes more money to get similar results, yet at the same time, guys are going to do what they are going to do in terms of the level of their chosen aggressiveness, and level of chosen aggressiveness is a choice too.. a choice that has consequences, especially if looking 2-3 cycles into the future.

I have two questions for Gamekyuubi :

The first question is about the past...
Was it merely a coincidence that you created the term HODL exactly at that moment (December 18, 2013) when the best time to hodl Bitcoin had already passed?

Even though you sound a wee bit lost @JaanusRaim, you are pointing out a likely dilemma that Gamekyuubi and others had gone through around that time, since it tends to be hard as fuck to both hold and to continue to buy for any guys who started to buy at the top.

My own history in bitcoin starts with my buying at November/December 2013 top, which perhaps is part of the reason why I suggest that the solution in stacking and actually profiting when starting at or near the top is continuing to buy... which most likely is not what Gamekyuubi, since he largely disappeared from the forum for many years.

None the less, we can look back and see that even a relatively mild investment amount of $50 per week starting in December 2013 would have resulted in about $33.6k, invested and a bitcoin stash of more than 23 bitcoin... but yeah, it pays to have will power, and so many guys started to buy bitcoin in and around 2013 but they did not stick with it.  Many of them got shaken out in 2014 and 2015, and maybe they were delusional at various times after 2013 - even though over and over there had been chances to make up for their having had drifted into delusion.. and so even guys who might have had waited to get started until 2017, they might have had still been able to recover from their having had gone through a slow start.

So maybe a guy who started investing in bitcoin in 2017 might have had to have had invested around $200 per week and invested in the ballpark of $100k or more in order to still get close to 11 bitcoin, yet it was still doable.  For sure not a bad place to be.  $100k invested and nearly 11 BTC. Many guys would be quite happy in being with that kind of a bitcoin stack size.

These days, no coiners and low coiners should still be investing, yet even if they invest $500 per week, they still might not be able to accumulate 1 bitcoin in the next 10-ish years... so $500 per week would be $25k per year and $250k after 10 years, and it may or may not be possible for bitcoin to average less than $250k in the next 10 years.. so there could be a bit of a struggle to get to 1 bitcoin, even for a guy who is willing to start right now with $500 per week and to continue for 10 years at $500 per week.

(The Bitcoin price growth during 5 years January 3, 2009 - December 18, 2013 was ca 500 000x (from $0.001 to $541),
the Bitcoin price growth during 13 years December 18, 2013 - October 10, 2026 was ca 150x (from $541 to $83068))

For sure a price curve that is less steep, yet I doubt that a less steep price curve justifies not getting started buying bitcoin.

The second question is about the future...
Bitcoin is not only all grown up (around 18 years old) but also mature: it has "reached the Moon", its market capitalization has surpassed the trillion-dollar mark, and it is now perceived as a genuine asset.
Meanwhile, all other cryptocurrencies remain "under the pull of Earth's gravity": they are not viewed as genuine assets, and no one would be surprised if their prices were to drop to zero.

What do you think, will the cryptocurrencies market develop at the similar size as the stock market and there will be many many Bitcoin-like trillion-dollar-market-cap cryptocurrencies or will the Bitcoin stay basically the only bird in the world ?

Of course, you @JaanusRaim seem distracted, like you (as a shitcoiner) is asking another shitcoiner how shitcoins are going to perform in the coming years.  Great example of a lack of focus.. but hey, you do you.

It is not easy to not get sucked into shitcoins and/or trading.  I am not going to deny that, especially for many guys who likely come to bitcoin with a pre-existing gambling mindset.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

@GameKyuubi Do you think finding an actually cypherpunk on BCT these days is like a snipe hunt?

Kind of? I feel most actors like this also have a tendency to keep a low profile/vanish. The shift toward attention marketing pushes them away if you ask me.

Zealots.

My question for Gamekyuubi :

What's one thing you think most bitcoiners misunderstand about Bitcoin ?

That's really tough to say, because what bitcoin is seems to evolve over time. The structure enables some function, which then reshapes the structure based on the realworld feedback from that change. Maybe the thing to understand is that it doesn't have to be one thing forever.

Honestly this, especially now that all it takes is installing a trading app on your phone. At least back in 2013 it took more effort to panic sell  Cheesy

I think “HODL” came from a guy who posted “I AM HODLING” during a crash, asking “why am I holding?” Maybe the original HODLer was the very first accidental self-exclusion from trading.

And for @GameKyuubi, did you ever think about trading your way out of that crash?

1. When you wrote “I AM HODLING”, did you imagine that a simple typo would one day become one of the most powerful philosophies in Bitcoin culture?
Came here to see if anyone had asked it or not, as I wanted to ask the same thing, but I kind of knew the answer too. He definitely did not know this could have happened. He left it on purpose, and then the word HODL was invented. The funny thing is that it was also on point, or it was made in a way that sounds on point for this abbreviation, "Hold On for Dear Life."

I don't know who invented this abbreviation, but it also became famous. Anyway, I can tell he did not know about it. He accepted that he was a bad trader, and that's why he chose BTC for long term holding, and he must have made a huge profit. My story is exactly the same haha. I also HODL because I was not so good at trading in my early days, but now I am, so I am just spending my coins like fiat haha.

My question for him is: Can he afford to live a life without bitcoin now? Like by selling them all? I don't mean by financially but I mean by emotional attachment haha?

I *experienced* the system working. Not paying via coinbase credit card, but actually paying with a wallet, onchain, for everyday items and food. Where are they now? Does anyone accept Bitcoin directly? NOPE! Why? Cuz we sold bitcoin future ideology for practicality now. Mostly I guess I miss the primordial part of bitcointalk or any tech really, which is an attractor I can't seem to escape.
First of all. I am happy to see you and hear from you in the forum. There are some questions I will like to ask and know too. From the above quote, that was the ideology of the creation of bitcoin from where I read in the whitepaper, and seen that things were going to that direction of onchain p2p and we could see that from the story of Joe and Alice and not through the third party p2p of centralized exchanges. Can that experienced you got still come back again? Or it gone forever?

What do you think can reshape the ideology of bitcoin currently to the core ideology of it creation?

I just wanted to thank you, GameKyuubi. The word hodl is something I use on more or less a daily basis. And obviously I hodl.  How did you come up with hodl, by the way? If I had to guess I would say it was a typo? A classic, even more famous than safu, I would say.

The HODL term is something that I’ve been confused about since I joined the forum, I’ve noticed it also but I never thought it was a typo or something, I had thought it’s the way it’s being spelt in the forum but I’ve not seen anyone spelt it that way in other places outside the forum, I’m glad the question was asked here and I’ve gotten to know exactly how the HODL was coined. This very question has really being on my mind but I just never air it out.

@GameKyuubi, you have written your name in the history. I AM HODLING is a divine mistake.

But can you make some other OGs return to the forum more interesting? Some months ago, the pizza legend returned but was unable to write as you are doing.

I guess everything has been explained on his old thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.msg4022997#msg4022997

And that typo happen because he's so drunk.  Grin Cheesy

Imagine that a classic typo, became a symbol of courage for traders now and all experience trader also investors do DCA use that word from time to time.

In the past, people did not believe in Bitcoin as much because it was in its early stages, so do you have any friends who spent a lot of time and effort to convince them about Bitcoin?
And do you have any friends among your friends who have succeeded in investing in Bitcoin, and do you have any friends who have failed and have ignored investing in Bitcoin and regret it today?
I mean, how much do those who missed out on investing in Bitcoin in the past regret it today?
Now, in this day and age, you can buy just one Bitcoin with a huge amount of money, but in the past, when Bitcoin was in its early stages, you could buy many Bitcoins with a small amount of money.
If I knew about these failed people, I could now tell my friends in the real world who don't like investing in Bitcoin as examples. To verify the truth of the saying that Bitcoin investment brings success and to show them as proof.

There are many sites that have data on Bitcoin growths in prices and ROIs over past years, and these sites actually provide very solid and convincing proofs of Bitcoin strong survival as well as growths.

Clearly Bitcoin is still far to make a flippening against gold in marketcap.

GameKyuubi, at best, seems like a shitcoiner.. but hey, it is never too late to come around to dee cornz... and surely there was a moment in time (such as a drunken stupor) that he did temporarily recognize/appreciate the value of HODL... and yeah, thanks for the new word... feels weird man. I been messing with alts since the beginning, more back then than now. bitcoin was about freedom, which in the open source sense meant being able to make your own variant. if you're not cool with that you're not cool with bitcoin.

Glad to have you here one more time! Glad to know you love Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd, too.
Yeah the Dead have a lot to teach for those willing to listen.

Pretty disingenuous to edit after getting merited.

My b, I was trying not to double post and some thoughts may have shifted in flight. If I changed something you merited for I can separate it or note the change but if you recall the difference it might be an interesting discussion.

You probably listened carefully and are up to something now. I can only hope the market remains as kind and generous and naïve as before.

Well, that you're hear once more carries a big statement.

But HODL is barely breathing. Last time nutildah praised it as "an example of a memetoken done right", the market cap was still at $4.1million. Today, 5 months later, it has lost 65% already. At $1.44 million and with a 24-hour volume of $11,846, no, it's not yet completely done.

But I'm not sure if it's still worth fighting for.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to "non-custodial"

It could be that your brain has been fried from years of drinking, yet it seems problematic to be trying to narrow down bitcoin into certain use-cases or certain utility, especially since you have already said, in previous posts, that there can be various interpretation or even various use cases for bitcoin.

Anyone who had spent a decent amount of time accumulating bitcoin, and even perhaps mostly building up his bitcoin position prior to 2021 would have likely increased his options in life so long as he had been erroring on the side of accumulation and HODLing..., and for sure, I have already mentioned several times, that HODLing is not going to do a whole hell of a lot of good if the bitcoin stack size had not been grown enough and also there is likely a need to be able to stay committed to HODL.. which also seems that if the buying of bitcoin is ongoing, then it becomes harder to sell at any point in time, because there had been a commitment to buying.

By the way, there are likely even a lot of guys who both built their bitcoin position prior to 2020, yet they still ended up selling most if not all of their bitcoin (and they may have even made a profit), but then after they sold, they had almost no chance in hell to be able to build back whatever holdings that they used to have.

The same is true right now.. and any guy who is a no coiner or a low coiner would likely end up better off if he continues to buy bitcoin, even if it still might take 4-10 years or longer to get to a situation in which he has enough or more than enough bitcoin, which would then allow him to transition into either price based or time-based sustainable withdrawal, as I describe both of those ideas in my sustainable withdrawal thread - which should be considered as an investor mentality rather than a trader mentality, which I wonder if you have even transitioned into any such investor mentality or if you are still in a trading mentality, in spite of your having had been able to say (or is it invent, or at least popularize) the HODL word.

Glad to have you here one more time! Glad to know you love Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd, too.

What makes you think I'm done?

I get the sense that you have never accumulated enough bitcoin in order to get to a stage of having enough or more than enough coins.

There is a lot of empowerment that comes from getting to a stage of having enough or more than enough coins, yet you are not likely to get there if you are not ready, willing and/or able to transition from a trading mentality into an investing mentality... Once you are in an investing mentality, then actions (such as ongoing and persistent buying) would help you to get to a status of having enough or more than enough coins.  If you sell coins at various points along the way when you had not yet reached overaccumulation status with goals of accumulating more bitcoin, you are then actually practicing a kind of gambling rather than having the assurance that ongoing and persistent buying is the one way to make sure that your bitcoin stash is getting larger on an ongoing basis rather than gambling (taking chances) about whether it will get bigger or not.  None of us should be fucking around and gambling with our bitcoin. .it is an approach that is quite unlikely to have meaningful progress, especially compared to any guy seriously, consistently, persistently, investing in bitcoin 2 cycles or more.

You're conflating my commentary on blocksize utility and financial integration with my commentary on the kneejerk reaction of bitcoin maxis to anything other than bitcoin. If you understand bitcoin you should be excited for crypto in general imo. Bitcoin is fine, I don't need to defend it. It will live if I critique it. It won't disappear if I put 5% in some other projects, and it doesn't necessarily mean I have to sell any of my bitcoin stack either.

In fact if you want to build your BTC stack you should take notice that alts aren't going away, diversify some tiny amount when BTC is high vs alts, then fold back into BTC when the opposite happens. One of the safer strategies if you ask me. And there's a few alts that would have made you bank if you hodled them since 2013.

It is what it is, I'm glad bitcoin is doing well even if I disagree with some things about it. We don't have to agree on everything about it that's part of what makes it great. Like, the voting mechanism described is genius, even if i don't always agree with the result. It's about THAT part, the innovation and the downstream things it enabled, the cryptopunk ethos and drive satoshi had to solve a novel problem. That is what really excited me, that's why I bought it, that's why I still have it and that's why I participate in its derivatives.

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine and my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near as it were your own?
