I share the same opinion with you, I support that they should just unban gambling and set rules to protect her citizens from addiction problem because according to them, one of the reasons that made them ban gambling is to protect families from losing money, although the major reason seems to be because of religious beliefs,  however they need to realize that they can't force everyone to have samw believe. Prison, army bases and such places have their own version of gambling which may not always the money as wager but other things like food, personal care products and even one session of intimacy.

The truth is, those rules are made for the poor. Most times, it is the same people who enforce these laws that benefit from them because no one is there to scruitinze and restrict whatever is going on in their rabbit hole.

I am not surprised by this news because the military of some countries is fantastically corrupt. Sure, I agree with you, getting caught is a good sign of a functioning democracy and a functioning country in which corruption is not allowed nor tolerated.

Here is very common to hear rumors and news about people partaking in corrupting businesses and deals, basically stealing and doing whatever they want with public money and also doing businesses without having licenses.

The worst example is how the police ask businesses, like restaurants and cellphone shops for money in order to have protection from theft and other things which could happen to them if they don't pay. Here police people are seem as criminals or potential criminals.

Ban on gambling might prove ineffective. However that does not mean all form of restriction are useless. ban cannot eliminate demand. Nevertheless through enforcement it is possible to curtail certain activity or protect vulnerable individual.

My concern is that when prohibition give rise to underground market, independent oversight of business diminish. And opportunity for corruption increase. In this specific case one cannot say without any investigation whether this was power struggle between rival gambling group or situation where individual exploited their position to facilitate an illegal business.

What can we say, it's not like our government can just legalize gambling when our country is one of the countries with the largest Muslim population. If the government legalizes gambling, of course, it would face strong opposition from at least two Muslim organizations, ulama, and various other community groups. So we can't really talk much about that.

This is why I say that our country is rotten to the core. The officials who are supposed to work as the country's defense are now more busy with illegal gambling, illegal mining, and many other illegal things. I mean it was surely frustrating but that is usually what is happening anyway even on different governments, even here locally there are a lot of cases like this where those other gambling was surely threat of penalties to thoise gambling platforms, but thats a huge irony since they were the one regulating and controlling them they could easily do whatever they wanted and violate it themselves.

Gambling business is always profitable, legally or illegally, and yes this is a case of lion chasing lion, in my country it is even much more worse but economic wise Venezuela situation is far worser.

Military people over here can't be trusted because they are the ones causing instability and they are the ones coming to the rescue also after the damages are done, the military are the terrorists and they saviour, it's all fueled by greedy and corruption.

I still believe there are still good elected people in office that people can rely on or probably an influential critic that will push it. It's not like we got them in extinction.

This is why I always consider banning a gambling as a misplaced priority. Whether they like it or not people will find a way to participate in gambling directly or indirectly because it's human nature to diversify unless they willingly lose interest. Sadly, many countries do not seem to know how to handle gambling activities in their country. In my estimation, an outright ban is going to force more people into illegal gambling.
What they should be aiming for should be
1. Increase regulation
2. Increase campaign on responsible gambling
3. Funding for NGOs, CSOs, and other humanitarian agencies to carry out gambling interventions to people both in rural and urban areas.

If they can do this, they would see a positive shift and a reduction in these illegal gambling rings.

Everyone can find entertainment in different way according to their own preference. Therefore I could not accept your argument that gambling is essential to prevent violence in prison or military bases. That's pretty weak justification.

Question I am considering is, doee public demand for gambling simply vanish if it is completely banned? In reality, it does not. Instead, some of that demand shift to underground market.

This is an environment where independent oversight is limited and potential for corruption increase. However this does not mean that all restriction should be lifted and everything opened up. It is essential to take measure to protect people from addiction and prevent participation before prescribed age. And financial security is absolutely essential for every person.

Somehow I feel like the reason for banning gambling in Indonesia is not mainly to protect its people, but to get a share of the money from gambling operators. Because if they legalize gambling, then these people who protect gambling activities would get nothing from those gambling operators. And when gambling is legal, they will have to compete with bigger fish to get a share of the money through gambling taxes.

That is life for you my brother, those who are making the laws in countries are the ones breaking most of the laws they are making, and nothing will happen to them. It seems that the only people that they are making the law for are they less privileged, but those who are in positions and in high places in the government usually don’t get punished whenever they break the law.

Sure, the big players who have the big connections will always get freedom, it is only those who are less privileged without any connection that will suffer for it. This is how life is.

Well the contribution they have to breaking the laws says a lot to why they created the laws in the first place, I feel like if they do not control the people then making money from it would be difficult since anyone and everyone can participate then it’s going to ruin the level of wealth that should or would be created in that industry. The irony is crazy and wild with this issue. Regular people get punished, probably unfairly for online gambling if suspected or caught, yet somehow we will see an operation like this and ends up running inside a military facility. It really makes you wonder how they operated there without anyone notices wrong.

Tbh, arresting those people shouldn't be the main point of this. They need to find out who's actually behind this or whether anyone that has more power is involved. I get it on why people are frustrated these days globally. What's the point of these strict laws if ordinary people start feeling like it's just enforced against them or to broaden the self interest of their leaders? If they will arrest the person behind all of this, then its like beating against the head authorities. If they aren't the head, then surely they have connections to that person, so its impossible to make them responsible and get arrested. This is why cases like this do not stopped because the heads are more powerful than those assigned authorities.

If they can't arrest the person behind the continuous operation, at least they can put those less powerful people into jail. That's already an achievement for them, even if we know the fact that they are just fooling the public.
