Why does the government impose these bans if they are clearly not going to be enforced? If the gambling industry is a highly profitable business, then in the event of a ban, this business does not disappear; it simply goes underground and becomes illegal. And any prohibitive measures are useless.

I agree that prohibition does not eliminate demand. But I would not say every ban is useless. Key consideration here is that imposing restriction on gambling does offer certain benefit. But do these outweigh harm caused by pushing segment of market into illegal and unregulated channel?

You also need to consider incentive for enforcement. When any business is illegal yet highly profitable then very power to regulate it become source of income for corrupt official. On one hand they talk about taking action against operator, while on other they protect them and profit from doing so. However there is no evidence to suggest that this is simply power struggle between rival gambling group.

It's crazy to be honest. It's like the cops themselves selling drugs, which in reality do happen in some places.
Seems like these agencies are corrupted to the core. Since they are running gambling operations themselves just imagine how many sites would have bribed them.
Can't really trust anyone these days. You might be thinking your funds are under safe hands but they themselves might be the theives.

The people who make the laws consider such laws to not apply to themselves, so they can act as they wish. In India there is a explicit 'caste system', and in other countries there is an implicit one. People pretend they are all equal citizens towards the law, but for real, we know it's not how it works...

Moreover, the fact there is a blackmarket going on inside the country means there is profit to be made through bribery by some officials. Casinos will continue operating, but instead of paying directly to the government in a regulated way, they pay to government's officers who take care of the inspection and control of clandestine operations in the country.

Whereas I concur that gambling poses harm to certain people, it also has advantages in safeguarding the vulnerable from becoming victims of addiction as well as loss of money. There remains another question; do the pros outweigh the cons of the illegalization of the activities, considering the possibility of the gambling firms operating underground without any oversight or supervision at all? those illegal gambling may offer an opportunity for the vice of bribery as certain people may demand kickbacks or not implement the law properly. Nevertheless, if we have no proof at all, it would be wrong to conclude that enforcement activities arise from rivalry among the gambling firms.

The irony is crazy and wild with this issue. Regular people get punished, probably unfairly for online gambling if suspected or caught, yet somehow we will see an operation like this and ends up running inside a military facility. It really makes you wonder how they operated there without anyone notices wrong.

Tbh, arresting those people shouldn't be the main point of this. They need to find out who's actually behind this or whether anyone that has more power is involved. I get it on why people are frustrated these days globally. What's the point of these strict laws if ordinary people start feeling like it's just enforced against them or to broaden the self interest of their leaders? Hopefully it gets investigated properly and doesn't be buried from the mainstream media after few weeks.

I am aware that some countries employ exemplary punishment a practice where a crime and its corresponding sentence are publicly announced and carried out in full view of the public. If a country decides to treat a particular case as an example, they might impose the maximum possible penalty to deter others from even considering similar actions. After all, if the guilty are punished without any public disclosure, others might feel emboldened to continue engaging in similar conduct which, of course, would be terrible.

Only the poor will suffer in such a law because the rich and their children will not be arrested and even if the are arrested they will have a way of coming out without the completion of the 6 years. As for me the gamblers should be exempted because if the casinos were not in operating in the region, nobody would gamble but because there are there so gamblers would definitely participate.

And at first if they had not been announced to the public about the prohibited law of gambling before the raid, then it is wrong to arrest anyone. They have to announced it in a month or more for all the casino to stop operating. And if anyone were still on operational then...

In this online gambling case, there has been a common ground, where military officials have named several suspects including 17 witnesses as I quote below.

• Detention of Officers: Lieutenant Colonel (Lt. Col.) Infantry Arman (initials A), who serves as Head of the Permanent Garrison Intelligence Section (Kasi Intel Gartap) 1/Jakarta, has been officially detained by the Military Police of Kodam (Pomdam) Jaya since Wednesday, October 2026

• Witness Examination: Pomdam Jaya investigators have examined at least 17 witnesses to investigate the extent of Lt. Col. Arman's involvement.

This proves that it is not only the public who are wrongly judged in court, the firm attitude of military officials proves that anyone involved, whatever their rank, will be threatened with severe legal sanctions, up to dismissal as a member of the military.
