Some people will be using centralized services and they don’t bother reading their emails, that’s how they miss information like this and end up putting themselves in this kinda situations.
If the person can not keep up with reading terms and conditions or even check their email frequently for updates, it's better they don't even use centralized exchange for some kind of transactions like this. Most of the transactions I do with people I know is usually internal, it is either the person is using the same exchange I am using or a different exchange, but if it's some external transactions from strangers to me or me sending to them, I like to send from a self custodial wallet and it's easy for me because I don't even keep money that much on a CEX but some people like to keep a huge amount in exchanges even though they are not using it at that moment.
One can not be 100 percent safe from things like this as long as you keep using Centralised exchanges because their terms and conditions are much and the keep upgrading the terms in a stricter manner. Users get so carefree that they don't even read most of these emails and even when they read, they throw it under the carpet like it's nothing until situations like this. I feel for the guy but I noticed a reply from the binance team...
