I was recently browsing through posts on a well-known trader's Telegram channel. He often posts screenshots, income statements, links to asset price forecasts, and so on. Interestingly, he spends some of his trading winnings on casino games. His casino winnings are random and generally unprofitable compared to trading. This got me thinking. Many people claim that gambling is wrong for fun; there's always an ulterior motive to get rich. Why do you think traders play casino games in this case?

If you ask him why he does it, he will tell you it is just for fun. But there’s actually more to it. Since trading is about trying to make money from predictions and taking risks. There’s this over confidence that comes with being successful as a trader, the person may start believing the risk taking mindset can make more money for him in trying casino games.

The part about posting screenshots on socials and all the things you mentioned. I know plenty people on this table and majority do it to fuel their ego and seek validation from followers. They see it as a big flex, especially when they make good money from trading.

Gambling can only be for fun when the person has something else tangible as his source of income, if he doesn't, then he gamblers solely for profits.

It's clear from your story that the trader goes to the casino to have fun, which is how it should be. I've read threads where people claim they gamble to pay bills and it's surprising because I can't relate to it. Many people treat trading as a source of income which is okay if you are experienced in it, but not gambling. A game of chance should have zero expectation placed on it. Traders want to have fun too and the casino isn't a bad option Wink

That is the only valid reason why he should be gambling on casino games, since he tag himself a successful trader, because people believes that because he is successful in trading, he doesn't need to gamble for money, but strictly for fun, so that is his perfect excuse irrespective of his real intent.

Those that does it to fuel their ego are those that are actually successful in it, but majority of these people that does such things are only doing it to have more followers to be able to earn from their social media account, because if you are truly good at something and you are making a lot of money from it, you wouldn't come to social media and be making announcements on how good you are, and how you are willing to teach others that will pay a certain amount of money, that will be an unnecessary stress.

There are also wealthy people who gamble at casinos, and in their case, it becomes clear that their main goal isn't to get rich, because they already have more than enough money. Their main goal is to take their minds off other things. It's hard to say whether it's really entertainment, I think it feels like entertainment when you manage to win. On the other hand, if a player's main goal isn't to win or make money, but simply to have a good time and get an adrenaline rush, then I think that alone might be enough.

It's clear from your story that the trader goes to the casino to have fun, which is how it should be.
We cannot be too sure that he is doing it for fun, since no one can tell what is on his mind. As I have said earlier, it may be that he is not as successful as he is claiming, so he is trying his luck in gambling hoping for a winning, while on the other hand, it may be that he is actually doing it for fun, so it's a two way thing.

Though relying on gambling as a means of earning a living in bad, it's also wrong to solely rely on trading for a living because it's going to make you take unnecessary trading setup, just because you will be impatient to wait, since you need money urgently to sort out your bills.

Are we sure the guy is actually profitable in trading? I mean I don't actually see a trader who also likes to gamble. This is a first, that's why I am doubting he is actually profitable. Could be he makes money in trading not as much as you think and gambles them thinking he can make some more money.

Trading could have took a lot from him and he is seeking shelter  in the wrong place. It's on rare cases I think gambling is actually done for fun. Most people who gamble aim to make big money from it. More like a quick rich scheme mentality.

Some people are not gambling because they want to make money from it. Some people are gambling just because they want to have fun.
Making money from trading does not mean he cannot have fun gambling, as long as he’s using only his discretionary income, I see nothing wrong and what he’s doing, I gamble because I want to have fun, I don’t gamble because I want to become rich from gambling and I believe a lot of people are also doing the same thing.

The only way this makes sense to me is that the trader already likes gambling in the past, they might make most money from trading but they keep going back into gambling because they like it more.

There is nothing fun about trading than looking at the chart and making money, it's very boring but gambling isn't the same because casinos are filled with different types of games, the fun is significant compare to trading.

Although I have good results in trading more than gambling, still this doesn't meant I should focus out on trading, I have to live like a human too.

Many people claim that gambling is wrong for fun; there's always an ulterior motive to get rich. Why do you think traders play casino games in this case?
Many people claim it’s wrong to gamble for fun does not validate it to be true. There are also people that claim that gambling for fun is realistic, and they are also right in their perspective. In the end everybody is just giving their opinion to what they think is right or wrong, but the reality is that everyone knows what they are doing and what they want to derive from gambling that is what matters. A gambler can’t tell the true intention of another person why they decided to gamble. In this case I think the trader decided to gamble because he feels like gambling just like everybody else. His purpose of gambling is only know to him.

I agree with you on that mate. But most times people that are also doing well financially also gamble. However, the rich dudes even gamble more huge amount even more than the poor but the only good thing about the rich guys is that they don't commit all their mind and hope on it just the way some average guys does. They easily accept results the way they are than in the case of the poor gambler.

There is no wrong in gambling. Be you a trader or a regular person, but the only problem is when you start seeing it outside its purpose which is solely for fun and start doing it for profits or a source of income. This is what makes it more dangerous and can even result chronic addiction problem if you aren't careful.

Gambling is considered entertainment, but becomes toxic when there is an addiction and it clearly affects one's daily living. For a trader that is profitable, he should understand the concept of withdrawal and discipline because it's almost similar to trading principles too.

You cannot constantly lose in casino games and still decide to do that all the time, does that become for fun or its an addiction? The risk with trading is nothing compared to casino games because there is no calculation that would make a gambler 100% profitable, it's just a game of randomness.

If that is true, there is no other reasons than he is looking for more money if he is using high amount of money to gamble. But if he is using little amount of money to gamble, he may be gambling just for fun.

People that are traders like something that is very risky. Trading is very risky and gambling is very risky. He is only lucky that he is a good trader and making money from trading

Why do you think traders play casino games in this case?
As a trader myself I also play in casino to have fun. I rarely play on online gambling casino but I am more often on casino house having some relax time while playing slot and having some drinks and food while playing. For me its just a relaxation or good time. Whether I bag something out of the games or not is not big deal.

I only use crypto casino online if Im not been able to go ti near house casino, also to have some thrill and fun and if got bored.

Why do you think traders play casino games in this case?
In this case of OP’s post, if truly the trader is making all lot of profit from his trading, then it might just be that he’s playing the casino for fun. However many trader aren’t really making much profit as they always claim from their various challenges, some come up with edited charts and fake profits just to get engagement and promote their brand. I am aware of such trader from my region. so they also play casino sometimes too and they make profits and loses from the casino game.

Aside from this reason, I don’t think there’s any other reason to why if a trader is making good money from his trading which look more reliable in terms of profits and lesser chance of losing funds to be playing casino which is very risky. Or he’s just an addict that can’t get over the gambling Habits.

Does the channel have a large number of subscribers?
The only motive I can think of is leveraging that popularity to distribute referral or affiliate links. In terms of potential, earnings from such partnerships can sometimes be more attractive than the casino winnings themselves.

It could be that even though he is a trader, he loves playing casino games or gambling generally. Of course, his ability to trade and make profits does not limit his choices and what he loves to get involved in. Sometimes too, even before he became a trader, he must have been playing casino games or sports betting, and so tye zeal is still there, and sometimes he would love to play too, or perhaps, he wants to double his money. It could also be just for fun. There could be so many reasons he is doing that. Maybe, only him could explain better.

Maybe he thought that it could be similar to trading, that he is going to be profitable. Or just like what most of us wanted to feel, that rush and adrenaline in our body when we gamble. So we chase this kind of effects as obviously we feel good either way.

But it's a dangerous thread that he is going. Both trading and gambling are a big risk, you might win in trading, but when he put his hard earn winnings to gambling and try to multiply it, then it might be the end of him.

Experienced traders like to take risks more, which is probably why they like casinos. Traders tend to go to casinos more because they gamble at the end of the day for entertainment after being busy all day. Since there are many similarities between trading and gambling, traders have a high risk mentality, so even though casinos are unprofitable, they gamble almost regularly. It is not just for entertainment or to make money, there is psychological factor involved here.

We might need to investigate the population of traders who also engage in gambling for us to establish this claim. Most of the traders I know don't gamble; they engage in other forms of entertainment.

But your observation might be valid since there are some similarities between gambling and trading. This might be why most countries are making laws to categorize prediction markets as gambling.

I do not see any similarities between gambling and trading, what I have seen is that trading is a type gambling which people are fooling themselves with as if it is not gambling but it is gambling.

It is not just for entertainment or to make money, there is psychological factor involved here.
There is a psychological factor to it but it can still be to make money. If I can see how he is playing on the gambling sites, I can easily know which one it is.

I don't think there's anything surprising about this, since trading and gambling have a lot more in common from a psychological point of view than it might seem at first. In both cases, people risk their money, experience excitement, emotional tension, and the thrill of getting a good result. After all, not everyone who plays at a casino is necessarily trying to get rich. However, there's another side to this.

Problems start when someone stops treating the casino as paid entertainment and starts trying to use it as another way to make money or recover losses from trading.
