Panic is a feeling that is mostly out of self control, and it varies with people, so I would totally understand you when you feel this way during price changes with bitcoin. With every investment, there should be intentionality and discipline, no one is a perfect bitcoin holder but there should always be provision for the worst.

You cannot totally avoid market price updates, because before investment you should have it at the back of your mind that bitcoin is a volatile digital asset and price could change at anytime. I feel like this emotions is mostly amongst investors with small holdings, for fear that their assets could get liquidated but that mindset is a total loss to start with.
I wonder how a small time investor with small holdings can be scared of liquidation if their asset is in self custody wallet instead of on an exchange. Also, I believe unless one trades or is in the market trading at the time of these updates of price changes that they actually get affected by it, otherwise, your investment in a self custody wallet is safe from liquidation unless you decide to move it or trade it while the update happens.

To me I do not really see anything wrong to enable price alerts or notifications because if you are that type of person that loves doing DCA, you can be gradually be accumulating when the price falls very low according to how the notification came in, you can quickly buy if you do not want to set a buying orders because you believe that price would like go lower than expected so when the notification comes you can quickly rush to go accumulate some sat to keep building your portfolio.

Now I'm tempted to ask you, since these pop up notifications from these your exchanges, are you not aware of the price of bitcoin and when there's any significant change in the market ?
Exhort you mind is already fixed on checking your port folio, then you shouldn't be bothered with what's going on in the market and I think being a long term holder doesn't prohibit holders from checking their portfolio but what we make of it after opening it is what truly matters and determine if you're an actual holder.

Irrespective of the fact that our investment goal is long term, I believe constant reminder of price changes like this with other factors can rewire the mind of an investor to panic, even when he has initially built a strong foundation. The truth remains that nobody is too strong or too disciplined to not compromise, they just need life to play some tricks one them and this kind of messages popping up all the time.
Disable those alerts but will that solve the problem?

It's then up to you to define your reactions to such price alerts, for me they have no effects Because they are just random. One moment Bitcoin is up, then next it's down.

If you are understand how price works you will know that for a fact price will not move in one direction for long. Every exchange has a particular price threshold that triggers the alert.

Such alerts only puts you in fud and it is stressful for a long term Investor. For now try to avoid them.

I will just go straight to the point, the image I posted above is an example of price alerts that exchanges send to their customers. To some persons it might be considered as mere price updates but to some persons it could be more than that.
Personally this price alerts have prompted me to disable my notifications on my exchange before but then I consider the fact that I won’t be able to receive other notifications so I enabled it back. But here is the reason I disabled it, each time this message pops up, there is this part of me that always draws my attention to my holding and sometimes I’m just tempted to check the effect of the price changes on my portfolio .
Irrespective of the fact that our investment goal is long term, I believe constant reminder of price changes like this with other factors can rewire the mind of an investor to panic, even when he has initially built a strong foundation. I think it’s best you do something that makes you comfortable, if getting that notification makes you panic about your bitcoin investment, then I will suggest that disabling it is the best choice you can take to maintain your sanity, however I personally don’t really care about the notifications. Instead I like getting notifications from exchanges on price update of Bitcoin, sometimes this exchanges send me notifications of altcoins price alerts most especially ETH, I don’t have any business with ETH and still they keep sending this notifications, price updates doesn’t really make me panic, since I already know how bitcoin moves with volatility, is just something that you can never take away from bitcoin, it’s something that makes bitcoin unique because volatility presents different opportunities it demands on the one you’re more interested in. I like taking every reasonable opportunity in the Bitcoin market.

I didn't know this could be a big deal, I understand people are different, but to me, I don't see much into it. If it will ease the way investors thinks about their investment, then why not. However, if that is a big deal, what about being in a Bitcoin forum where we discuss Bitcoin every day, isn't that enough discussion to draw our attention towards our portfolio?

It's a mindset thing, anybody who has already prepared themselves, as long-term investors, would care less about this kind of notification.

Let me quote you entirely, do you know you're at a high tendency of risk by saving your long term asset on the exchange? Regardless bitcoin is decentralized, do you know that if you're not in charge of your private keys you won't be fully control of your funds? And perhaps, you don't own your keys there in the exchange.
Take note of that and if you haven't been using the exchange to hold your assets, you wouldn't have been encountered with the paranoid price changes notifications and again, do you know that while you're disabling the exchange notifications feature can also deprive you from getting notifications alerts from the platform in cases of new updates?
I'm entirely condemning the fact you holds your coin in the exchange after learning that you're holding for the long term.
Non custodian wallets doesn't bug user's with the price notifications. So I urge you to think about your storage systems. At least for security sake and then have an ease of that disturbing price alerts on the regular basis.
You started with let me quote you entirely and you ended up not quoting him….. That’s by the way.

You raised an important issue while everyone else are focused on discussing the information and question raised by the OP you saw the need to caution the bad practice of the OP aside from getting affected by price action notifications. I’m sure not a lot of us noticed it.

Making use of exchanges to hold is never a good option, an open source non custodial wallet is excellent.

I don't mind receiving notifications like this at all. It's true that it can have some effects on the mind but if you're focused on the goal and follow your strategy then you're good because it only tells you what the current price is.
I'm sure that before you invested in whatever you're holding, you must've had a fair understanding to how volatile it is and made the choice to proceed so I don't see where the problem is coming from. If you're not a patient person then you're not a patient person but you could train yourself to be so that things like this don't bother you.

The truth is that different people react differently to things, I personally don't even react to the notification when it pops up, I did at first but then the difference is price is usually very little, I'm even surprised to see a $50 difference, I get me notification from Kucoin and the price difference they notify me about is usually way smaller than this, from $80,000 you could see a $79,999.45 as the new price and sometimes I just tell myself "these people no get work ooo" and I continue with my day, it comes in around a few times a day so at the end of the day I'm usually able to tell if bitcoin's price went up or down that day.

It is absolutely true that emotional decisions affect us in the wrong direction most of the time, it is very important to invest in Bitcoin with a long-term plan and hold Bitcoin for a long time with confidence. I think that emotions affect a person in investing only when the person's knowledge is very limited, when an investor has specific knowledge about Bitcoin, his emotions cannot affect him quickly. If a person has a quick impact on long-term investment by watching Bitcoin price alerts, then it is reasonable to turn off price alerts.

I think that if you invest within your means with the right knowledge and long-term plan and are aware of the risks, then Bitcoin price alerts will not affect your investment, the investor will be able to control his emotions and wait a long time to reach the goal with confidence.

If disabling it helps you remain focused, less emotionally triggered and committed to the long-term holding, use it to your convenience.

Yea frequently receiving notifications about price action can actually disrupt one’s plan on their bitcoin investment, most especially if they are beginners that gets emotional after a drop. However, if your worry is about other important notifications, and you careless about the price, then there is a place to set that from the exchange notification settings. You will enable what and what you want to be notified about just like Ashawowo have said.

I personally don’t like receiving notifications on the price update that why I disable it a very long time ago.
Yes frequent volatility notifications of Bitcoin or cryptocurrency prices can create stress in our investment plans and increase the risk of making wrong decisions based on emotions. Also it seems to us these constant notifications can negatively impact investors' psychological decisions and Bitcoin investment strategies. For example;

  • Impulsive decision making (FOMO and FUD)
Panic Selling: When the price of Bitcoin drops slightly, many may panic after seeing the notification and inexperienced investors may decide to sell their investments at a loss.
  • Deviation from long-term goals; Bitcoin is generally a long-term investment asset but I feel that daily or hourly notifications can force an investor to become a short-term trader, which is counterproductive to the original plan of inexperienced investors.
  • Stress and Fatigue: It is normal to get stressed by the ups and downs of the market every moment and as a result many people lose their ability to make normal decisions. In view of this, it can be said that notifications should be stopped and everyone should make a habit of checking their investment portfolio at regular intervals.

The way you study Bitcoin and get limited experience, that is when you will start to take decisions in a wrong way, but someone that calms himself and makes research and gets knowledge about Bitcoin, that is when you will see they are making good plan and invest for a long term, because when you didn’t hold for a long period of term, I don’t really think if Bitcoin will favour you in a short period of time.

You’re right, when you start to check Bitcoin price all the time, that will make you feel like you should sell, since the price is volatile, and if you don’t have that patience to hold, it will always be hard for you to keep the Bitcoin, but when you turn off your price alert, that is when you’re serious to keep for long and just set your target and wait for it to pump to your potential level.

I have had this popup notification on my phone for many years, and never for once did it make me panic about my Bitcoin investment, simply because I already knew that Bitcoin's price is not static, and as a result of that, the likelihood of its price value constantly fluctuating is very high. So to me, if that notifications makes you panic, itd just best to disable it, because those who are day traders will be very happy to have this feature enabled on this phone, as it will alert them when to buy and sell. But since you don't intend doing so, then you can just disable it.

Yes, i so much agree with the last stetement you made regarding the mindset OP had as a total loss to start with, because this is what we should have expected from a complete newbies and he educates them the more. Because stating that a decline in price notification makes him panic literally just shows such individuals don't even know how Bitcoin works, because if he did, he would have known that its price is meant to fall and rise at every motion with respect to demand and supply. And as such, he must have known that it is normal, considering the fact that the decline in volatility wasn't very high.

Before going into bitcoin or any crypto investment the first approach is finding its operational pattern and that of bitcoin is completely obvious on its non static movement, therefore news of this kind is not supposed to shake any investor.
To me i see this sudden drop as an opportunity for more investment to be established because anytime from now it will be very difficult investing because of the increment all will see.
Although this sudden decrease is something no one expected as they all where expecting an increase but I see no need to panic because its a test of faith that will turn positive very soon.

If I am not mistaken, exchanges are not the only ones that can notify us about changes in Bitcoin's price. If you have price-checking apps like CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko, they can once in a while, notify you of changes in Bitcoin's price.

I don't see that as a bad move from them either way because my investment in Bitcoin has never been, will never be, influenced by the notification I had about Bitcoin.

What I am focused on, and what I am doing is to invest in Bitcoin as my financial capacity can carry, because at the end of the day it's my money that I will be using to invest
