I don't know if this news is already in this board I have checked and did not see, if there is let me know. In the News a certain former gambling help line director from Florida has been sentenced. Also according to the same news he was sentenced for cunning the gambling company he worked of millions but what has been shocked is that he did this just to use the same stolen funds to gamble. I have seen something like this in my country where a young man whose mum is in the hospital took her ATM card and withdrew money meant for her treatment just to gamble. When gambling stops being about Fun you will be doing you and those around you wrong.

Biggest irony is that he squandered every last bit of that money on gambling!
The very person whose job it was to protect and assist gambler was himself so deeply mired in that addiction that he even maxed out his own company’s credit card.
And I’ve even heard that he made pathetic attempt to blame his theft on medication or something similar!
I don’t know if he’s fallen victim to some sort of political vendetta or if this is nothing more than sheer irresponsible hypocrisy.

When gambling stops being about Fun you will be doing you and those around you wrong.
So technically, he was addicted and yet he is supposed to be the one to respond to gambling addiction related issues? there is two angle to this story because while he decided to spend stolen fund on his gambling lifestyle, the key thing to note here is that he is a thief to start with. We are in a time where those handling therapy needs the service they are offering even more than those that are offering the service to. Anyone can get addicted ad this is very important to take note of. if you know you are going to struggle dealing with addiction, then it is wise you never work in certain place. i would even suggest that if you are working in such environment, don't gamble at all because you are going to be too exposed that addiction becomes a natural consequence.

This means that no one is save from gambling addiction because if an expert who counsel people on irresponsible gambling can forget all that he tells people and become addicted to gambling. It means that no one is above being an addict.
I thought that people working for casinos don't gamble, why is his own case different. Maybe, he was doing it secretly. Honestly, when you are working in a casino and you see gamblers winning big amount of money that can tempt you to believe that you can also be as lucky as those few people. Only gamble for fun.

This kind of news aggravates the gambling situation among the people, supposedly they help the person from addiction, while he himself steals for the sake of gambling, this is like a self-ignorant person.
Cases like this are many, like people have never seen him play gambling, but behind it all he spent a lot of money including his family, so I think someone who can't resist this temptation they will definitely fall into the wrong thing.
It is not gambling that is wrong, but the way he is with the money itself, the way he steals is an action that cannot be justified.

Sounds like the classic case as that saying goes you cannot put the meat in the neck of the wolf and expect the wolf to not eat it. I know thousands of cases like this yet not from gambling help line. I have personally worked at one casino in 2005 and the deputy Ceo used to gamble all his salary plus he was caught using clients money. Since here is a violent country the security took him and made him naked and got all the money he had stolen, he was lucky to get out alive.

Stealing from others to gamble is terrible and it shows that a gambler is starting to get addicted but this something that doesn't start in a day. For someone that works in a casino to get addicted to gambling knowing fully well that it's dangerous means that it's a lack of self control. A lot of people fail to understand their nature before gambling, you need to know if you are disciplined financially and if this is something that you struggle with it's best not to start gambling. For someone that works in a casino he must have seen what gambling addiction has caused a lot of people, I wonder why he got involved in suchm

He is not an expert in reality, he is only someone doing a job a getting paid for it, there are many people doing jobs that they pretend to be good at but deep down they can't even take their own constructed lies. And also the fact that he stole from his former company is proven of the type of person he is. Those who aren't greedy and wants fun from gambling are safe from addiction.

Such sensitive incidents are being seen frequently now. I am just surprised that the person who is the director of the gambling addiction helpline himself is preparing stolen funds and gamble with them. The person who will prevent others from becoming addicted to gambling is himself addicted to gambling. And how sad is the incident of your own experience that you have shared. Such decisions can only be made when people's intelligence, conscience and awareness are destroyed, where they have started betting with their mother's medical money. Gambling addiction can completely devastate a person mentally. This is why the purpose of gambling, as it is initially for entertainment, should not change even after a long time.

Indeed the hunter has been hunted, very sad.
Lets not forget that according to the news, his lawyer claimed he was on ADHD medication. If that is true, that could have contributed to such reckless behaviour. In severe cases, this ADHD medication can cause mood and personality changes. Because I don't see any reason why a gambling addiction headline director will do this if he is not under the influence of a drug or something.

What I found strange in this whole issue is this story is that the man was the head of those who talked to addicted gamblers and somehow is expected to tell them how to deal with addiction and get out of it, but the same person ends up doing the same thing, which is mostly done by addicted gamblers taking money that belongs to employees and using them to gamble, which is just same as preaching something all for the purpose of the pay check but in reality you are not doing that behind the other screen.
A 10 year sentence and still being failing to pay back the money is a fair judgment, but the year of serving should have been lesser, one doesn't need that much to reflect on his wrongs.

Gambling will give you results the way you use it, I have been gambling for a long time and I have understood a little about it. A person who gambles for fun can enjoy it, a person who enters gambling to earn money eventually reaches the point of addiction and faces major losses in life. The way you accept gambling will give you results, but gambling should never be taken to excess. Many people have left their families because of gambling, left their birthplace and are fugitives in different places because they have incurred huge debts due to gambling and are forced to go into hiding due to fear of creditors. So you should accept gambling correctly and accept it for fun, this is the only best.

In the News a certain former gambling help line director from Florida has been sentenced. Almost 10 years. For misappropriating $1.4 million. Also according to the same news he was sentenced for cunning the gambling company he worked of millions but what has been shocked is that he did this just to use the same stolen funds to gamble.
At this point, I felt like laughing - it’s a bit like "bees campaigning against honey". A specialist tasked with helping people struggling with gambling addiction turned out to be a gambling addict himself, which led him to commit a crime. It goes to show just how dangerous gambling addiction is - it can even "strike" those who work professionally to combat it. Philip Lee Sullivan, "you were supposed to fight evil", not join the dark side of the "Force". I have seen something like this in my country where a young man whose mum is in the hospital took her ATM card and withdrew money meant for her treatment just to gamble.
This case differs from what happened to our protagonist, because the absurdity of the situation lies in the fact that Philip Lee Sullivan is a "Florida’s former gambling addiction helpline director". It seems necessary to conduct audits of such organizations and implement a rigorous selection process for job candidates (including periodic assessments for gambling addiction). When gambling stops being about Fun you will be doing you and those around you wrong.
An aggravating circumstance is that Philip Lee Sullivan, instead of helping those with a gambling addiction (which is his professional duty) robbed them.

That’s one big irony there. The guy supposedly running Florida’s problem gambling helpline had supposedly stolen a staggering $1.4 million where he previously worked as the CFO, used the money he stole to feed the same gambling addiction which he was supposed to help me get over.
The worst part is that he got the helpline job right after his crime was discovered and the case was still lingering. The ten years sentence is a heavy one though, but the part that beats me the most is how the system failed in its own screening, putting someone who committed a theft due to addiction in charge of the lifeline without properly checking their foundation first.

That is a malicious act that deserves appropriate punishment. It no longer qualifies as gambling once it reaches the point of harming others, because gambling can be viewed in a positive light when done responsibly. When it reaches the level described in that news report and in incidents that have occurred in your country, it is no longer gambling done for fun—it has reached the most severe level of addiction, where people can no longer distinguish between right and wrong.

I think the title should have been Gambling addiction help line director sentenced.
If people like these work in a help line, they will not benefit, rather they will do more harm.
In my country, some people even steal to gamble, a few days ago a gambler stole my brother's mobile phone, an addicted gambler is harmful to the family and also harmful to the society.

So someone whos job is to help addicted gamblers get themselves back is now also a victim of addiction too? Magnificent 🤩 This is why you shouldn't trust yourself when it comes to gambling.
Many people broke their own rules themselves after several weeks of exposure to gambling, at first they thought they are always in control of everything, controlling yourself for few weeks doesn't mean you will always be in control.
This is the main reason why I fear gambling, you let your guide down just for a minute and you got carried away you are in trouble already, before you know what's up you are already doing what you once promised to never do.

I read about this incident. In this case prosecutors argued that individual did not take only money merely on his impulse. Instead, he attempted to conceal transactions by bypassing company’s financial safeguard. wtf! Therefore his action, planning and intent certainly warrant investigation, imo. My question is, can we not address both addiction treatment and criminal accountability simultaneously? Any individual may require treatment but that does not absolve them of responsibility for financial loss incurred by affected company and other parties.

The director was probably earning a good salary which could have provide him with a comfortable income. However, what he did cost him his job and led to him being punish. The millions of dollars he stole may have given him temporary enjoyment but in the end, they turned into a punishment for him. He spent that money on gambling, but it is still unclear whether he made a profit or suffer losses. Instead of stealing money and putting it into gambling, he could have invest it in a business that might have benefit him in the long run. Many people turn to gambling for entertainment and enjoyment, while others do it hoping to make some extra money. Some even gamble because they think it will help them escape mental stress for a while.
