Dude wanted to double the money that is why he used it to gamble. Dude is also addicted. Shits like this happens with lots of fella especially when they are having small money or when they have no money with them. It has become very bad because people have not begun to start borrowing or stealing so they can see money to gamble. This lots do this because they are seing gambling as a way to multiply that little money so that they can become rich.
That kind of mindset is very dumb to have because gambling isn't something that is certain. You can loose even everything and get ruined from gambling just as you are trying to win. That is why person have to invest only with what they can afforded to loose and they should never chase losses.
It is not a bad thing if they want more money, but when they want more money, the person should go get a work to do and quit depending on something as gambling that isn't even certain.
Once again this is a reminder for we all to gamble for entertainment only.

If the person whose responsibility it was to control gamblers, provide services, and protect them from danger is himself a victim of a terrible addiction to gambling, he cannot take responsibility for himself, how can he take responsibility for others?
The man who did this knowingly should be severe punishment, when the man realized that gambling had become a part of his life, he should have stayed away from such services because he knew very well that he had no self-control over himself and that any time a big danger could happen, he should have given up this work, and gradually protected himself from gambling addiction.
When people are addicted, they are not in a position to judge good and bad, they can do any kind of bad thing to earn money from gambling, their main goal in life is to gamble and cannot think of anything more than that. Gambling is not just a part of entertainment, so use money that you can lose, keep your mind calm, and enjoy the pleasure of gambling.

This is not the case with this person, are you trying to say that people who works in psychiatric hospitals are also mentally ill people or they will one day become mentally ill? Don't mix things up.
He has one good solid job, to help addicted gamblers become free but in return he got tempted one way or the other and he ended up committing a crime to fulfil that desire, I am sure he isn't the only one working there.
Why aren't the others arrested like him? He is the only one who compromised, humans are build to compeomise this way, the police have their own bad stories like this, even in the military.
Are you trying to argue the fact that one’s environment can influence him? People do certain things naturally we know but others act certain way either out of peer influence or work influence, there are possibilities that this man won’t have been so addicted to gambling to the point of immediately running to gambling with the ill gotten money he got if he wasn’t working in a gambling environment. Not everyone is influenced by their environment but certain persons get carried away and before you know it become slaves to what they were supposed to correct due to fact that they don’t have strong willpower to resist the temptation.

I don't know if this news is already in this board I have checked and did not see, if there is let me know. In the News a certain former gambling help line director from Florida has been sentenced. Also according to the same news he was sentenced for cunning the gambling company he worked of millions but what has been shocked is that he did this just to use the same stolen funds to gamble. I have seen something like this in my country where a young man whose mum is in the hospital took her ATM card and withdrew money meant for her treatment just to gamble. When gambling stops being about Fun you will be doing you and those around you wrong. This is a sad story when someone that's help to do something to help people turn out to be something else but the story you used as an example is different, and the story is just like what happened in Thai days ago where the person whose job was to help people deal with gambling problems/police illegal involvement ended up been accuse of stealing large amounts of money just to feed his own addiction. Although the case is still in court nd the man is yet to be found guilty. What I see in this story is that it shows how powerful the compulsion can become; knowledge and professional experience don’t automatically protect someone once the addiction takes over.

A gambling addict trying to answer the calls of those seeking help from their gambling problems. That's just not right.
Anyway, he used the money he stole to gamble again and lost it all. Now, the company is asking for that money, and his lawyer is creating an illness for him to avoid the fine. Well, the gambling company could just tell themselves that the lost money is their contribution to him. He had a problem, and I think it's also because of his job. He may have tried to test out why those people with gambling problems are calling him, but sadly he got drowned in it.

There are many people who advise people on certain issues even when they struggle with the same problem. There are religious teachers and conventional school teachers who don't practice what they teach. The man in the OP might have been helpful to some addicts since he has been trained to handle them. But his problem is his failure to apply what he knew. Now he is now a convict and would suffer financially since he was instructed by the court to repay the money he stole.

Such a hilarious and possibly concerning headline.
How did he even get the job? did his gambling addiction count as experience? Should it have been flagged instead?
One can argue only a gambler can know what goes on in our minds, but we can also argue that if he cant control himself how can he help others ?
But sometimes its easier to give advice and guide someone rather than actually doing it ourselves..

It turned out to be that the same people who are employed and used to exploit people through their weaknesses and addiction for gambling are also becoming victims of the same circumstances. Unfortunately for this particular fellow, he lost the bet to the same company he represents but even if he had won he could have being prosecuted for defrauding his employers or maybe they would have gone into a plea bargain with him which means he would still forfeited all the money to company he stole from.
Gambling addiction is real and very difficult to deal with which is why these casinos have to come up with practical techniques on how to reduce the tendencies of gambling addiction in order to control the devastating effects of gambling.

When gambling stops being about Fun you will be doing you and those around you wrong.
Some of the things some people do for gambling can make one wonder if they are insane. How can one steal such a huge amount of money and still want to gamble with it? They may not even be able to win such an amount through gambling. I'm not surprised by this because it is normal for addicted gamblers to make crazy decisions in their pursuit of gambling, and people like this usually lose because they are desperate to win a large amount.

If you are addicted to gambling, you are already finished, gambling addiction is going to make you do stupid things, the news is not surprising to me because I have seen people who worked very hard and do risky jobs and then use the money to gamble, not that they are using part of the money to gamble, they are using everything to gamble.
In our different home town we see people who are addicted to gambling who steal just to use the money to gamble, we have many of them in my home town.
People think that they can make huge amount of money through gambling, and that is why they become addicted.

Maybe not the environment influenced such an action but the friends he has who gambles and may have been successful at winning more by using a certain strategy, or it could be he so believe in his strategy and the kind of game he wants to play that he decides to try using huge amount to get huge returns. Well, he was definitely wrong. Am surprised people can still risk their position and status for this kind of foolishness because this isn't the first story I have heard of such folly and it goes to point fingers at gambling activities, that it isn't just a game of fun and entertainment but a game of luck despite the amount you use. His punishment here is going to be more than the ordinary gambler who just uses small budget and maybe gambles frequently. It is a shame really.

Unfortunately, what we see around us today is indeed like that. Not many people truly enjoy gambling for entertainment; they are all already willing to take risks to keep their gambling going. Some exploit their positions to use their clients' funds. Others use their parents' retirement money just to be able to continue gambling. We have already seen many examples of irresponsible gambling. Hopefully, this will not happen to us.

~ When gambling stops being about Fun you will be doing you and those around you wrong. Yeah, stealing $1.4 million is wrong and you must be put in jail for that. It doesn't matter one steals for his gambling addiction or, like in the case you described, maybe he meant to win more for his mum's hospital treatment. It's just wrong. Also, his defense argued that prescription ADHD medication contributed to his gambling behavior. Whaaat? That's just pathetic. This guy should stay in prison until he repays $1.5 million. Stealing is stealing no matter what the amount stolen was used for. ADHD medication did not push him to steal he had the thought to steal the he could argue that his medication led him to gambling but still he should have his warrant and continue his treatment from jail. His problem is being exposed to gambling and the mindset of multiplying the amount he was stealing so that he will continue to gamble but he wasn't lucky to win and he was caught this is a double punishment for him because he must have suffered heart break from losing before facing his sentence. Prison will help his sickness to leave him and the gambling addiction will disappear in prison he deserves what he has gotten.

There is a term like this, when someone is really addicted and does not have the funds to get it, then he will do any way to be able to keep doing it, someone who is already unable to control himself, the values that are in him will disappear, no matter if it is evil, the most important thing is that he can achieve his goals in any way, including those people. I think the context of the discussion had read it, it's just a different case, and had read also people who gamble using medication funds but fortunately he jackpot, one other thing about luck that can not be imitated, people who can not control themselves relatively never really be able to survive the addiction.

He should worry more about the years he will spend behind bars, the repayment of the loan they might sell whatever valuables attached to his name in other ways to raise that money.

Naturally, it is the loss itself rather than the opinions of others that deals the greatest blow to a player’s ego. Following a major loss, a player might feel as though they have been drenched in freezing rain at that point, they may no longer care what happens to them. And, of course, punishment is inevitable for if left unpunished, the player would almost certainly repeat the same behavior, driven by an urgent need to win back their losses and numb the pain and resentment of defeat. They seek to prove to themselves and those around them that they are still capable, but at its core, the desire is simply for luck to finally swing in their favor. That did not happen, and so they must accept the lossand everything that comes with it.

OMG, I’m so heartbroken to see this news. Someone who used to work helping many people recover from addiction is actually struggling with the same problem himself. I mean, how could he possibly be the director of an addiction treatment center when he can’t even help himself? On the other hand, I’m sure he isn’t an expert in this field, and regardless of anything else, I’m sure he must be deeply embarrassed now that the public knows about this.

When gambling stops being about Fun you will be doing you and those around you wrong.
When gambling starts to mess with your mindset, you can go to any length just to satisfy that habit. This isn't even the most shocking story I've heard. Sometimes, we hear stories that make you wonder how any human being could do such a thing. But when someone has a strong urge driving that habit, they may keep going until that urge is satisfied. Gambling addiction is something we discuss often, but the outcomes are usually similar, regardless of the person's intentions. Once someone develops this habit and loses control over it, they may go to extreme lengths to keep gambling. To me, that's a really bad situation.

Yes, but by playing you don't double your money, you lose it Gambling, as the name suggests, is just a way to pass time and not to make money if you intend it to make money, sooner or later you could fall into the trap of addiction, it's not nice.

Yes, there is no surprise anymore because an addition gambler doesn't reason like the normal gamblers; their mindset is always to become rich overnight through gambling. It is a very big problem because they are always making responsible gamblers look irresponsible in the eyes of the people who don't like gambling, because many people already have the feeling that gambling causes a lot of harm, so something like this even makes it worse. Let's just gamble for fun and entertainment and not gamble to become richer.
