Other countries that has the same rules.

This problem has been around for a long time and many countries have banned gambling simply because they do not have gambling licenses. However, if a country has a policy that gambling should not be allowed without a license, then those countries should be careful about it and Australia is one of them. I agree with this, so many gambling dens are emptying and closing due to licenses. In Australia, gambling is also considered quite good and gambling dens are closing there due to licenses. Gambling has become a very big business, so the policy of countries should follow this and protect their dens from these things.

Your reply is not related to what I posted. You are talking about licenses but my point is about licensed bookmakers in general and how they could face penalties or even lose their licenses if they violate Australia's new rules restricting celebrity endorsements of sports betting and I also mentioned some countries that have already implemented similar restrictions. Your reply is not related to what you quoted.

Used to be cigarettes, then used to be alcohol,,, now its gambling. But I would rather celebrities do not make ads for products that are not healthy (food especially and even Ozempic now) first. Gambling is an easy target but man those ads about unhealthy food and snacks and trading apps and all that. Those are the worst. Kids all getting too fat or too thin. Gambling will get to them without the help of celebrities.

While it is certainly not a bad idea to monitor and regulate various aspects of life that could exert an excessive influence on young people, this should be done with great caution to avoid making matters worse. For instance, an outright ban might trigger a backlash, leading many individuals such as gamers to seek out secluded spaces where they can gather with like-minded peers, away from prying eyes. The same applies to issues like junk food or celebrity endorsements; in my view, such bans are not the right approach. Many celebrities are only interested in collecting a paycheck, with little regard for the consequences one need only recall the FTX exchange, which was promoted by a number of famous figures.

I think it is rather irrelevant for Australia to ban celebrities from partaking in gambling advertising, in my opinion. It is like what you mention, eventually gambling reached those who show interest in risking their money for the sake of thrill.

On the other hand, I think it would be very unlikely for Australia to fully ban gambling and betting completely in the country... Australia is considered to be a western country, after all, and western countries are supposed to be about individual freedoms and being able to do whatever we want with our money, it makes sense they keep gambling legal and prefer to apply restrictions on advertising.

Gambling won't stop existing due to parents not educating their children properly regards the risks of this activity.

Nowadays parents just let their kids access smartphones and internet deliberately, because it's an easy way to get rid of the attention they should be giving to their children. And then they complain about the exposure of gambling to the kids.

However, if they were side by side with the kids, it should be easy to point out gambling is to be discouraged, and that is only for people who have a load of money to spend on entertainment, what isn't their case.

Personally, I imagine myself as a kid accessing those ads and having no desire for engaging on this activity, just like I didn't have any desire for alcohol or drugs back then. Adults explained me the consequences and warned me to stay away, and I understood that. I don't think it would be different regards gambling. The kids of the present time need guidance.

For me, governments are a hindrance; they want to control everything, and that can't be called freedom. Gambling, casinos, and sports betting should be preserved in all countries because they are freedoms. I don't see anything wrong with people using casinos and placing bets.

Unfortunately, governments use addiction as an excuse to claim they want to protect people, when in reality their intentions are different. I'm not a politician, but these are the kinds of interests at play, and they hide them behind the excuse of addiction and protection.

The ban applies to all major sports, from football to rugby and Australian football. How would you assess the economic losses from these bans, as well as their rationale?
It is not a bad fight, the reason for this ban is to prevent room for further adoption that will lead to addiction. The government does have a good intention, as they know the damage it is causing, but that is just one way gambling adoption is being advertised, what about the rest and other ways?

Banning gambling entirely is what i don't support, the government has no right to restrict what people do for fun.

How would you assess the economic losses from these bans, as well as their rationale?

I could see many think that this will result in huge loss for bookmaker. But I don't think this ban is any crash. This is opportunity for bookmaker to pivot their marketing strategy.
If high cost promotional activity such as use of celebrity brand ambassador and stadium signage are discontinued then licensed bookmaker could see significant and immediate reduction in their promotional budget and advertising expenditure. These millions of dollar in saving will now be invested in product development, better odds, crypto integration, loyalty bonus and direct digital retention.

Their government may think that removing celebrity from television and banning banner in stadium will put end to gambling. But modern gamblers don't just place bet on impulse after seeing sport advertisement. Betting culture has now largely shifted toward algorithm driven digital marketing, direct in app notification, CRM retention campaign, personalized social media aggregation and offshore GambleFi platform.

Australia will ban licensed bookmakers from using celebrities in advertising starting in January 2027. Advertising during live sports broadcasts in stadiums will also be banned.
So all these to reduce gambling addiction?
Well if these are the measures they feel is best to get their goal of reducing gambling addiction then let it be, although they should consider the individuals that will be affected by this their actions, the jobs Lost, business disruption and so on, if they should do this they should make sure there is enough space for jobs outside gambling field, because you can't make people loose all these and you keep them like that, that will increase more of what you don't want to see in your country.

Bookmaker commercials will not be banned from airing on television during the day, but there will be restrictions on their frequency.
Media reports claim the government considered a complete ban on gambling, but opted for a more lenient approach within the framework of responsible gambling.

In fact Australian govt has also come to realize that more restriction and advertising cap they impose on licensed local operator, more player will gravitate toward more convenient noKYC casino and offshore bookmaker. So, actual casino volume from local player won’t disappear, it will simply shift channel.

This is perhaps why govt has opted for middle path, rather than pursuing any complete ban. They had no other option as this was only way to sustain substantial tax revenue generated from regulated market and to keep job market intact. While number of celebrity endorsement on TV has been reduced to curb political sycophancy, implementation of daily frequency cap ensure that legitimate market flow remains active.

This is a fantastic news and I love it.
Most of those celebrities do not even gamble so they do not have any idea what they are doing other than how much gets into their pockets.
I commend the Australian government for this... this is another strict form of regulation rather than an outright ban. Unlike what most countries are doing.
In addition to this, the government should start a small grants program for NGOs and Civil societies to carry out interventions on gambling addiction inaddition to responsible gambling awareness campaigns all over the country especially in hard to reach places.

Celebrities are the best easy access to market a product for people to buy, but they don’t even know about the implications of somethings they’re promoting which makes it more workload for government to actually find a balance. I don’t blame the celebrities or those that offered them the deal, both sides are on the winning side. It’s now the work of the government to develop outreach on the proper use and implications of such adverts they’re displaying. The Australian government has taken a good step and with this, it will not affect all parties involved severely, they can still cope while new rules are being implemented for all to benefit from.

Normally responsible gambling awareness should go beyond social media and i agree with you on this it school not just be on social media alone but if should also go viral to communities where people may not have access to proper information or good technology i believe there are still cities like that and this groups yoi mentioned  NGOs and civil society groups supporting them can help people understand the risks and provide assistance to those struggling with addiction. And all this celebrities should also be held accountable for the products they promote not everything should be promoted because of money, most especially when young people are watching them, if they are earning money from gambling advertisements, they should understand the damage it can cause to a person.

Personally, I hate advertisement that is noisy, and distracting user's attention, maybe these ads are not condusive but brings distraction when viewing sport during live sport sessions.

If an agent keeps talking about, or animated video keep distracting spectators from viewing sport games comfortably, then there should be a ban on it.

Ads are supposed to be simple, quite and easy going. If celebrities are using it to make noise with it, then a ban should be approved.

It's silly to say that gambling is addictive, yes everyone knows that not today.

It's the same ban that the government did with all cigarette brands, and because gambling in sports could also be very addictive especially to young people, I believe it's the right move.

We don't want a generation of corrupted youth to become those people who will take over and run society.

I agree, most especially with regard to some young people that may not be fully aware of the risks attached to gambling. They might not understand how addiction in gambling can destroy a person life if that individual doesn't know how to control his or her emotions.

Another point is that if they keep in seeing their favorite celebrities all the time promoting gambling,  they may think of it as something harmless or even view gambling as something that they can use to make easy money from.  So i believe if we can limit that kind of influence it will help the youth make better decisions.

Gambling through sports, memecoins, memestocks, and to some degree "gambling" in Bitcoin, is being done by younger people probably because they feel that finding a job and doing things the "normal way" won't help them get ahead in life/society - WHICH IS A FACT. The median age of owning your own home currently is about 57 years old. It was 36 years old in 1996.

Their viewpoint probably is to, "Gamble my way out of financial mediocrity".

It's not because of that because if it were, it would not result in a ban, they could just ask them to minimize it. This ban is all about controlling the growing problem of gambling addiction, and that problem will only get worse if gambling is easily advertised as if it isn't risky. You should understand the government, they are doing their job to help the people while still allowing the gambling industry to grow, that's called proper regulation.

Australia will ban licensed bookmakers from using celebrities in advertising starting in January 2027. Advertising during live sports broadcasts in stadiums will also be banned.
Bookmaker commercials will not be banned from airing on television during the day, but there will be restrictions on their frequency.

Media reports claim the government considered a complete ban on gambling, but opted for a more lenient approach within the framework of responsible gambling. The ban applies to all major sports, from football to rugby and Australian football. How would you assess the economic losses from these bans, as well as their rationale?
The authority have taken it to a whole new level this time, and from the opted option you can see that the initial motive was to completely ban gambling advertisment, but then too we have to come to another term, if the government ban advertisment in live sports events, but allow gambling in the society, what effect will this have over the adults gambler's, because as much as this can work it only limited to preventing underage who watches football games from getting gambling content while watching live matches.

Because celebrities often don't understand what they're promoting. Remember the rapper Creed, who promoted slots despite his primary audience being teenagers and even children. The public subsequently forced him to apologize. Celebrities somehow don't understand that if they start promoting something, they can't just avoid responsibility by saying, "Oh, come on, it's business."
Young people listen to celebrities- singers, actors, and showmen.
Therefore, it's really important for regulators to constantly keep their finger on the pulse and monitor who's advertising what.

What solution do you offer? Restrict gambling advertisement globally? People already are familiar what gambling is and how it works. Even if celebrities stop promoting gambling, or there would be no single gambling advertisement, people would still keep bringing money to gambling industry and some of them would keep making same mistakes by betting everything, risking and everything, even though warnings are written everywhere.

I think australia is trying to prevent children from getting addicted to gambling.  These celebrities are role models to young people and also people favourite celebrity and they can easily influence their fans when they are used for promoting gambling. If the government wants to do this it is not bad and they have a good reason.

The government cant completely ban gambling because even if they try to do some gamblers will still look for a means to gamble. It will be better for them to regulate it in a way that it wont have much influence on young people.

This is just the basic truth, no matter the steps that the government takes to stop gambling in Australia, those who gamble will always look for means to gamble either by going offline to gamble. Either ways they must execute their gambling activities, it's very wrong for government to want to ban gambling or stop allowing celebrities to advertise for them because it needs media publicity with influencial people so the bookmarks can get customers.

What the government should do is to look out for means to regulate the rate of addiction in the country and  not to try to ban gambling entirely because it won't be successful as people will still look for means to gamble irrespective of the sanctions on it. The solution is not to allow underage get access to gambling platforms and monitor players so as to restrict anyone who seems to be addicted from his statistics overtime.
