Australia will ban licensed bookmakers from using celebrities in advertising starting in January 2027. Advertising during live sports broadcasts in stadiums will also be banned.
Bookmaker commercials will not be banned from airing on television during the day, but there will be restrictions on their frequency.
AAAAaa yes. Casinos, the world's most lawful type of business model there is. Banning them to use celebrity names would definitely 100% for sure make them stop using it all together. Stake was from Australia, I think, which means Kick is as well. But I doubt they are "based" there; like, a company headquarters, etc must be somewhere like the Bahamas or Curaçao or whatever, for tax and license reasons, I am sure. I have not checked, of course.

But aside from that, Kick will have a ton of famous people gambling, like drake for example, and Australia will not be able to stop it. Worst case? Casinos will come out and say "we did not pay him to play here; he wanted to play here", and that's it, nothing more is needed, and Australia can't do anything about it.

Used to be cigarettes, then used to be alcohol,,, now its gambling. But I would rather celebrities do not make ads for products that are not healthy (food especially and even Ozempic now) first. Gambling is an easy target but man those ads about unhealthy food and snacks and trading apps and all that. Those are the worst. Kids all getting too fat or too thin. Gambling will get to them without the help of celebrities.

That food stuff and the rest supposed to be handled by the government swiftly as it can cause more harm.

Honestly without the celebrities it will still get to them. Even at that influencers has more reach to people more quickly than any other platforms.

As the government has stated this regulation, they should make sure they enforce it well. At the end, it will be a blow to the government face.

What does the government know how to manage, if anything at all.
his only concern is making money. And above all at the expense of taxpayers, he manages to do it very well.
I'm sorry to be so aggressive but this is the reality of the facts..

While it is certainly not a bad idea to monitor and regulate various aspects of life that could exert an excessive influence on young people, this should be done with great caution to avoid making matters worse. For instance, an outright ban might trigger a backlash, leading many individuals such as gamers to seek out secluded spaces where they can gather with like-minded peers, away from prying eyes. The same applies to issues like junk food or celebrity endorsements; in my view, such bans are not the right approach. Many celebrities are only interested in collecting a paycheck, with little regard for the consequences one need only recall the FTX exchange, which was promoted by a number of famous figures.

Um dude they are banning bookies from using celebrities in ads, not even banning ads,,, what kind of backlash you think can happen? Celebrities going to onlyfans? Good for them.

Because celebrities often don't understand what they're promoting. Remember the rapper Creed, who promoted slots despite his primary audience being teenagers and even children. The public subsequently forced him to apologize. Celebrities somehow don't understand that if they start promoting something, they can't just avoid responsibility by saying, "Oh, come on, it's business."

Like all the sig campaigners with casinos they never gamble on, right?

Young people listen to celebrities- singers, actors, and showmen.
Therefore, it's really important for regulators to constantly keep their finger on the pulse and monitor who's advertising what.

These celebrities are mostly interested in how much they get from promoting a brand rather than the negative impact of such publicity. I remember how some influencers in my area promoted several Ponzi schemes. They later apologized and accepted that they didn't investigate the projects.

Regulating the activities of these celebrities is essential to reducing the exposure of underage children to gambling. In some countries, celebrities are fined for failing to abide by the law.

Before the government takes any final decisions as related to banning anything or function, they must have done their studies and proper check's and balance to see the effect of their decisions on the economy of their government and nation as a whole but in some situations, if the decision is what could salvage some certain occurrences and protect the lives of their citizens from dangers and further harm, they take a drastic measures not minding the economic down tone on their country nationals just to protect and prevent events that could lead to chaos in the country.
Maybe putting a ban on celebrity they think could help reduce the effect on casino publicity in their country. Many people follow celebrities and casino's do use them as their brand ambassadors, marketers etc just to promote their brands to the wider community including their followers and this generates traffic for the casinos and in most cases, majority of the casino's they promote are scan and fake casinos which abscond with player's money.

this regulation seems to be increasingly making gambling a little more urgent because in any case sports are always an attraction and a little difficult to separate from gambling but on the one hand it is also possible to minimize so that children do not see gambling or gambling ads directly because we know the more open the gambling room, the greater the factors that can trigger children under age to gamble.

Not that this is also free gambling from children who are not old enough but this can minimize the spread of gambling for children.
This becomes a plus minus for me but gambling going there will probably start a slightly newer way of promotion later on as this is only slightly restricted rather than a total ban.

It's the same ban that the government did with all cigarette brands, and because gambling in sports could also be very addictive especially to young people, I believe it's the right move.

We don't want a generation of corrupted youth to become those people who will take over and run society.
What concerns me now is how some of their professional clubs are now responding and anticipating this because when regulation is done then adjustments not only occur in terms of the government as a regulator but some sports clubs such as for some clubs in Australian football or some other sports such as cricket and AFL which are still largely dominated by sponsors of gambling.

Maybe it will be the same as in the UK, or maybe a little more complicated.
In England especially in football (EPL) clubs that have sponsorship with gambling are now not allowed to make the sponsor's name on the front jersey (main sponsor) but there is still a bit of leeway by keeping the gambling site logo on the sleeve and I would like to see how Australia sets their gambling regulations.

To minimize that early childhood addiction in gambling indeed I have no problem with it because this regulation can be right but the slightest mistake in this treatment can also make Australia lose some of their money from gambling taxes that are always received before.

I guess this kind of restriction is already there in many countries but the platforms will simply bypass the ban by becoming the sponsor so the athlete or the celebrity will be wearing their branded logo in their jersey, or as celebrity they just do some random internet video while wearing a T-shirt with the brand name on. Laws are there, but there are ways to bypass them like that.

The truth is that, when lawmakers place these kinds of bans on gambling ads, what they are simply doing is playing a useless game of catch up. They may succeed to ban gambling commercials on TV all day long, but the moment a popular streamer or celebrity wears the logo on instagram or social media, millions of people would still see it. These platforms have endless budgets, and social media has made it even more easier for them to reach millions of people in matter of seconds. So as long as they’ve got the money to push their name, the ways to do it wouldn’t be the problem because there’ll always be back doors.

They are simply getting their name out to the potential customers and if people are stupid and think that they can make easy money by gambling then it makes the job easier for the gambling platforms. Government should start teaching these stupids about the importance of financial management, and schools and colleges are there too which should be creating knowledge about this. But ban something then it will paves the way for unregulated market.

The worst about these gambling adverts is that they are almost in all apps one downloads from the play store for either android or iOS or even from PC stores.
Banning celebrities or popular streamers from doing these adverts or them restricting the space we see them, only makes them more creative in finding less restrictive methods that still help them put their gambling business out there.

Worst is that illegal gambling will rise because from what I know, gambling can never be totally eradicated.

That’s literally the harsh reality here. As long as people continue to see gambling as a source of income, the casinos will not only have customers but also continue to thrive. If the government like, they can ban all they want, the casinos would always look for alternatives to reach their target audience. And what these strict regulations and bans would help them actualize is to push these people into the shadows of unregulated gambling black markets where they can completely become vulnerable without even knowing it.

When people's interest in illegal gambling increases, just as licensed casinos will suffer losses, governments will also suffer. If the number of gamblers is high, the government will also get more revenue, but when gamblers try to go to the other side due to government restrictions, the government will not be able to trace them. That is why a platform should not be allowed to go beyond its control. The government should have a positive attitude towards licensed casinos regarding gambling. If gamblers are put under pressure or pressured by new regulations, then of course gamblers will be encouraged to find their alternative platforms.

The ban might sound helpful to the authorities in-charge, considering gamblers will still find means visiting casinos, using provided codes to place bet even with or without celebrities adverts.
Sometimes I wonder why the authorities are so forced to regulate activity that’s way beyond their power, for a fact Celebrities will no longer create advert while both parties will be affected meaning the celebrities no longer have access to earn using this means and the platform might find it difficult marketing the site, the only party that will not be deeply affected obviously gamblers, the authorities might think they’re protecting gamblers especially young gamblers but, I doubt because gamblers always find means no matter the circumstances although this is a regulatory means.

I think australia is trying to prevent children from getting addicted to gambling.  These celebrities are role models to young people and also people favourite celebrity and they can easily influence their fans when they are used for promoting gambling. If the government wants to do this it is not bad and they have a good reason.

Not so long ago promoting gambling was seen as something shady and now it's become the new normal for influencers and streamers and other celebrities. So I get why the government would want to step in since young fans look up to them. Hard to say if it will work but the reason behind it sounds fair.

To me I think this method is far better than banning gambling completely in a country, this is what people refer to as regulation,so in my opinion a regulation is way better than a ban.Young ones might become gamblers at their young age when they watch their favorite celebrities promote a gambling site/bookmaker and they would try to convince them by saying that their fans would earn a high chance of winning if they use their promo codes to stake the bet.Every sector knows that using celebrities to promote their services is a good marketing strategy to attract more customers and those celebrities are paid for sugarcoating a platform even when it doesn’t worth it.So this regulation from the government would help reduce the increase of gambling addiction from the youths and on the other hand it would affect their marketing strategy.
I totally agree with you on this. Banning gambling completely has never been an effective strategy to regulating gambling disorder and addiction, in fact it has never really actually solved any real gambling problem, it has only made people sort for other means to still access gambling underground.
Stopping big celebrities and influencers from promoting casinos with fake guaranteed wins is a lot more better than completely banning gambling ads.

Huge athletes are obviously sponsors by huge casino or gambling platform, we can just see it on there shirt and they mostly wearing the logo or brand of the platform in most of the game, I mean almost all of the sports they have this gambling logos these days, since sportbetting was getting really popular. Maybe the athletes is something because of the sportbetting then we could just remove the celebrities that doesn't have anything to do with gambling, because these celebrities have huge influence for sure they could surely influence a lot of people that doesn't relate to gambling, even children.

So, unlike athletes, we might expect it already because of sports betting, but if you're going to ask me, influencers just have a huge influence, and we just can't control who gets targeted by the advertisement as long as it is their idol, they might easily trust the website that is being promoted by their idol.

Australia will ban licensed bookmakers from using celebrities in advertising starting in January 2027. Advertising during live sports broadcasts in stadiums will also be banned.
Bookmaker commercials will not be banned from airing on television during the day, but there will be restrictions on their frequency.

Media reports claim the government considered a complete ban on gambling, but opted for a more lenient approach within the framework of responsible gambling. The ban applies to all major sports, from football to rugby and Australian football. How would you assess the economic losses from these bans, as well as their rationale?

We should be doing more to protect the youngest generations from gambling, especially as these companies target the relentlessly because they have not yet learned it's a foolish way to spend your money. You see gambling glamorized all over the place and young adults are very susceptible to peer pressure or following trends, their favorite "influencers" use all sorts of deceptive tactics to get themselves paid and celebrities take massive endorsements as well. These people are meant to be role models but in many cases are purely looking out for their own bank accounts, almost anyone can be bought at the right price it seems these days. The real way to prevent it might be to push up age limits to 21 or 25, maybe even have staggered amounts that are allowed to be wagered annually in different age groups.

The ban here in Brazil caused enormous damage to football teams, whose main, if not only, sponsors were casinos, which were once regulated. Regarding the prohibition of advertising by celebrities, it may be valid because, depending on the celebrity, they attract an audience that generally doesn't gamble. I cite Brazil again: celebrities led their followers to gamble using the social benefit, not explicitly, but with promises of easy and quick profit; many became indebted.
