Hey everyone!
I'm curious - how many of you trade BTCUSDT exclusively, without touching altcoins? Or am I a dinosaur in the crypto market? 😄
Personally, I use the 4h timeframe. My approach is pretty slow-paced, with around 2–4 trades per month.
I'm interested in hearing about your experience:
- Do you trade only BTC, or do you trade altcoins too? - Which timeframe do you use? - How many trades do you usually make per month? - What do you like or dislike about focusing on Bitcoin instead of trading multiple coins?
Share your experience. I'd love to see how other traders approach the market!

You are trading bitcoin and you only trade 2 to 4 times in a month. You must be a good patient trader that only look for the best time to open a position. - Do you trade only BTC, or do you trade altcoins too?
I also trade altcoins, but a very good trader can trade just bitcoin. - Which timeframe do you use?
I use many time frame depending on if I want to scalp, day trade, swing trade or going for position holding. - How many trades do you usually make per month?
I will say up to 15, but I may not trade more than 10 at times. I want to reduce it to 1 to 5, but that will be in bitcoin or very good altcoin. - What do you like or dislike about focusing on Bitcoin instead of trading multiple coins?
I use bitcoin direction to gets altcoins direction. Some times it may not be right, but it is almost right all the time. Only to good coins.

To get to that point, I had to overcome the urge to trade all the time. Psychologically, you could say I've almost quit trading altogether. It wasn't easy, though

You are not alone and I don't think you are a dinosaur at the same time, most of us here trade bitcoin exclusively and we don't consider for altcoins. Another thing to point out is that the pair you will use is mostly Bitcoin and USDT, and this is what you will get from most of the traders who really know what they are doing, without gambling by trading with hot coins.

I don't stick to trading with Bitcoin; there's not so much opportunity there. I am more into altcoins with volatile price action. I started analysis at 4H to know the current trend direction. I check 1H for pullbacks and momentum checks, and 30m is where my entry starts.
My strategy is for swing trading only. I don't usually trade much; sometimes I hold position in 3 days or 5 days. I don't ignore any signals from indicators, but I am more in price action, and I can only make 4 to 7 trades per month with a 1:2 minimum ratio, but I use stop-trail to maximize profit.

The thread doesn't belong to Economics but on the Trading Discussion. To get to that point, I had to overcome the urge to trade all the time. Psychologically, you could say I've almost quit trading altogether. It wasn't easy, though I feel you, trading isn't really easy. You'll need to do every test until you find what fits your strategy. Assess the trade and risk that it has, don't be like those traders who feel that they'll have to make 100x from that trade. Set your expectations lower. Start from 5% to 10% or however amount you're satisfied with. Little wins when collected become bigger. Otherwise, if you don't think trading is for you then shift to holding.

Great! I used to trade altcoins too, basing my decisions on Bitcoin's potential moves up or down. I'd then enter altcoin positions to capture more of the market movement. I had my own system for selecting altcoins, and I can say it worked. However, it required a lot of effort and took up too much of my time. By the way, if I were still trading altcoins based on Bitcoin's direction, I'd be looking for short opportunities right now, even if I were trading long setups on Bitcoin.

Well, some altcoins that collerate much to Bitcoin I do trade based on Bitcoin price movements, not at all, because sometimes there are some altcoins have against the Bitcoin price movements, but these days it seems different; all coins are affected by the BTC price drop recently. I don't know what the cause is, but it looks like it's because of the recent surge of crude oil; big institutions just moved again to stocks. Sticking only with Bitcoin to trade, then you lose so much opportunity. The price movement of BTC usually is around only 1% to 2% or less, nearly in consolidation compared to trading with altcoins, where you can gain more. If you trade there, just make sure that your trading system works well with proper risk management. Do you do stop-trail too?

I do not trade only Bitcoin. In fact, I rarely do. My preferred choice are altcoins. That said, I do not see anything weird about trading only on Bitcoin. Trading is about strategy, and if trading only on Bitcoin brings you more profit than altcoins, then stick to it. There's nothing abnormal about it.

- Do you trade only BTC, or do you trade altcoins too? Personally at the beginning of my trading journey, I only traded in Bitcoin. But after gaining some experience, I now trade in altcoins as well as Bitcoin. - Which timeframe do you use?
No I don't have a time frame. I trade based on market conditions. - How many trades do you usually make per month? It is not calculated this way. It can be seen that in some months I do not trade at all and in some months I open several long and short positions. - What do you like or dislike about focusing on Bitcoin instead of trading multiple coins?
Bitcoin is the most trusted and reliable in the crypto market so it is better to trade/invest in Bitcoin. And the best thing is to buy Bitcoin and hodl it for the long term.

Nah, in fact trading BTC is probably the most stable money printer for me, those altcoins are ultimately fugazi only worth to trade for short term and hop to another when market dried up, BTC is timeless and always highly liquid. - Do you trade only BTC, or do you trade altcoins too? - Which timeframe do you use? - How many trades do you usually make per month? - What do you like or dislike about focusing on Bitcoin instead of trading multiple coins?
1. I trade both. 2. 4h, 1d, 1w. 3. I'm the on the lower side, probably 4-5x. 4. I like the fact that BTC is more predictable than altcoin, no wintermute to ruin your day, no random shady market maker and exchange having hands to liquidate your position, just overall a good market. Trading multiple altcoins is sometime high risk low reward activity. If you're winning such as having good winrate, you're already doing good and if it ain't broken don't fix it.

- Do you trade only BTC, or do you trade altcoins too?
I trade Bitcoin mostly but sometimes I trade good alt coins as well. I must say those who don't understand the market should only trade Bitcoin as trading Bitcoin is less risky compared to other coins. - Which timeframe do you use?
I trade on different time frames but I have to check the charts and have some indicators as well which are part of my trading strategy. - How many trades do you usually make per month?
Sometimes I do 10 - 20 trades a month but sometimes I rarely do more than 5 trades a month. - What do you like or dislike about focusing on Bitcoin instead of trading multiple coins?
The best thing about Bitcoin trading is that one can always switch to DCA mode if a trades goes the wrong way for a long time. Sometimes our trades don't go well and in such situations we can rather DCA Bitcoin overtime to get a better average and then sell it with profit. So my approach is different from others when it comes to Bitcoin trading, a few times when my Bitcoin trades go wrong, instead of selling in loss I hold that Bitcoin and buy more over time and when it goes profitable sell it and take profit. Sometimes I have to wait for weeks or months to get profit. So this approach works for me, it might not work for those who are impatient but it works well for me.

I think Bitcoin to be the best medium for long-term investment. I have been accumulation Bitcoin regularly since the beginning of investment. I am doing DCA regularly for decent size Bitcoin holding. I use altcoins for trading, but this amount is very small. I focus more on long term investment. Although I started with trading in the initial stage, I am now a long-term investor. There is a risk of losing money in trading but the risk is much less in long term investment. I do not use time frames for trading in the literal sense, but I use funds in such a way that I do not have to panic sell in the future.

It's not about whether you trade BTC or alts. Its about having a clear strategy and knowing how to manage risk. Sticking to Btc can be a reasonable personal choice but it is not the only approach for people who know what they're doing. What matters is knowing what you are trading, and assessing the risks, and having a strategy that fits . Even if you trade BTC exclusively, you can still take heavy losses if you manage your capital poorly or use too much leverage . Trading Btc alone doesn't make you a real trader, and it doesn't make you any better than people who trade altcoin , either.

This is a really interesting approach, and I’m going to adopt it as well. I actually used to do something similar but lost sight of it over time. My current Bitcoin trading strategy uses 16x leverage, but I could allocate part of my funds to a separate, unleveraged long-term BTC position on the weekly or monthly timeframe. That way, I could combine active trading with long-term accumulation.

You will need to have lots of fund to do that in btc pair. Hedging your trade is only good with fund so that you have free floating capital to be able to execute other trades if you are not focusing on just that pair or just that particular trade order. That is quite risky to hedge bitcoin, I prefer letting go if a trade order goes wrong. Hey everyone!

I don't dislike it. Rather, I like to focus on just one pair because it keeps your focus alive and you have time to do other things offline. If you trade multiple coins and times, you will get hooked up online because you find yourself always checking up trades to go into or to exit. It is quite stressful. - Which timeframe do you use?
4hours and daily for trade set up and lower time frame for execution.

Actually I prefee altcoins more when it comes to trading as I love more volatile assets. I didnt use timeframe as I am heavily dependent on price action I only sell when the price appreciated and hold if its goes down to my entry price. I believed I trade like 5 to 10 altcoins in a month with different budget. I just hold bitcoin and accumulate it so I like more altcoins when it comes to trading.

Haha you are not alone bro, I am also one of those people who only trade in Bitcoin, there are no other coins like altcoins that I trade, I don't know but I am not interested in other coins especially those that do not have a clear prospect of fundamentals, in addition, previously there was one of my friends who experienced a big loss in one of the altcoins (although I understand that it may be due to his own mistake who was less thorough in choosing a decent coin).
But the point is never too late, Bitcoin is still a potential asset regardless of whatever your initial purchase price, as long as people's trust is still stable then Bitcoin will remain valuable.

I just really like how Bitcoin behaves on the 4-hour timeframe. I’ve looked through hundreds of altcoins, and I haven’t found a single one with a chart that looks this clean and predictable. It’s honestly amazing to me! Today, I heard some news claiming that gold is now being synthesized from mercury on an industrial scale, and that it has become more cost-effective than mining. Apparently, this is one of the reasons gold prices have been falling.
