Thanks to Visual Capitalist, there are some interesting statistics. I was surprised to see Norway so high on the list.
Sweden, for example, is very far from it on the list, although geographically they are close.

I also didn't know that the British visit online casinos so often.

But South Korea, which is often known for its love of risk in trading, ended up at the very bottom of the list.

What do you think? Did you expect to see your country ranked where it is?

I was also surprised to see Norway so high up. And then the USA – I’m surprised to see it so low down; surely there isn’t a mistake there? Or perhaps it’s down to gambling restrictions in some states.

I see the UK and Spain in the positions I’d expect.

I didn't expect this, Philippines is only 11.5% here? For me it feels way more than that, online gambling is everywhere here now and I already saw some lives and families got wrecked because of it. I'm curious also, is it like when a country is poorer, some people see gambling as their key to make money? I once heard someone struggling with finances say gambling is the only way out he can see.

I don't understand why Japan is so low on the list. They're famous for their love of gambling. True, it's physically prohibited there. But they play some unusual slot machines, and it's hard to figure out: are they considered gambling or not? Probably yes, because you can exchange your winnings for real money in a semi-legal way. So, while these statistics are extremely interesting, there must be a lot of caveats regarding certain countries. Hmm... is it just me, or do all the people who live on the islands love gambling? If I remember correctly, gambling is even allowed in Australia.

It’s interesting to know what website and apps they are using to determine the number of users per country on this survey.

The top country on this list is surprisingly new to me since there’s a lot of countries like Australia that have a huge number of active gamblers. But since this measurement is online gambling then probably Norway beat other country on the number of online gambler.

It’s new knowledge for me. Nice data share.

I don't understand why Japan is so low on the list. They're famous for their love of gambling. True, it's physically prohibited there.

This data measures online casino visits, that’s why the result seems new. I verify it and Norway indeed has a huge number of online gamblers.

You could have just posted the link also along with it which would not have made me ask this question.

I want to know if it is about only casinos or it is about gambling sites generally.

I think no one should be surprised if they see their countries among or on a rank higher on the list as long as gambling is legal in the country and not a Muslim countries. Gambling is legal in Norway.

Kids of 16 years are smart.

South Africa as the first is expected  Grin not after every news that's showing up for the past months about gambling addiction, debts and loans problem here and there, I know something was going to happen.

I expected Nigeria to be on the top 5 list though, that's weird, all I know. Is that developing countries are where loads of gamblers are residing because there is few to no jobs in such countries.

This is my saying about gambling....

Don't give me hope, let me be the one selling the hopes.

Today many people are and will keep struggling to get free from this trap of hopes and dreams on dreams that may never come true, sometimes we have to let go and let the mother earth work things out for us.

What else will they do on cold days? And it's cold all the time...  Cool

Just joking, I guess we can't fully trust these stats, or any other stats. I love them, but most of the time they are simply wrong... Just to start with a small sample size, and to end it with the dishonesty of people who do them. And there are other factors...

What do you think? Did you expect to see your country ranked where it is?

If it has connections with some vice, I expect to see my country ranked... And there it is, Serbia. Golden middle... But funny fact: Serbia has more casinos/betting shops (call it what you like) than all schools combined. So maybe we deserve a better rank!  Cool

This means that our country is not bad if I compare it to the statistics that the op gave here due to the ranking of the country I am in is very far. due to I feel that our country is bad due
to of the rampant promotion of online casinos in this era that we have.

Then there are also many who are addicted now and their lives are ruined due to of those who have become addicted, most of them due to of playing gambling
and also ruined their families in the end.

This is surprising. I thought the Philippines would be at the top because gambling addiction is already a big problem here.

Seriously, I did not expect that we are almost at the bottom 10 of the ranking, I thought we would rank higher, but if gambling addiction is already this bad here, how much worse could it be in other countries at the top. Maybe I would expect those developed countries to be higher since they have stronger economies, but for poor countries, I think this could be a really big problem.

The number of casinos in every country is changing every month or year, whether it is going up or down. Although day by day, I think the number of casinos is increasing because people are interested in gambling and they spend their time playing in gambling every day. At present, South Africa has the largest crowd of people and good and strong countries like it are also included in it. Now people are also interested in gambling because more and more new features are being introduced in them, due to which people are going towards gambling and new casinos are being built every day. As people get older, they are now understanding gambling and they come out after making profits and losing money in it.

I was also very surprised to see Norway ranking so high, I couldn't imagine that. This statistics is very interesting because poor countries and rich countries are very near each other. I was expecting statistics to be like, poor countries in top 5 or something like that and then rich countries here and there.

By the way, OP, are you sure that this statistics is right? I still find it hard to believe that gambling is that popular in Norway. I know that lotteries are very popular in Norway but I have never heard that online casinos were popular there. I wonder about, does this statistics also include online lottery websites?

It's not that I have the data to prove this wrong, but I highly doubt its accuracy. I didn't read how they come up with the numbers, though.

Also, the list will be completely different when the numbers are translated into their monetary equivalents. You mentioned South Korea, for example, being at the very bottom. That's understandable because online gambling is illegal there. However, that small percentage actually translates into an amount that far surpasses that of Norway, for example, which surprised you to be so high on the list. The illegal market alone in South Korea has a 2025 volume of more than $70 billion. Norway only has more than $1 billion.

Now I understand about this South Africa online gambling  Cheesy

But to be honest, I'm surprised with this list.  Angry

How come Nigeria is ranked below South Africa and Ghana in this table?

Considering how popular sports betting is in Nigeria every corner, I expect us to be among top five in the world and first in Africa. I have no evidence to discredit this but I'm really shocked seeing South Africa on top of the list. I don't know they gamble that much in that country.

Do I say it's commendable to see just five countries in the list from Africa?

Various programs and news reports often talk about the gambling problem in the Philippines. And judging by the table, even in quiet and boring Switzerland, people visit casino websites more often. This is incredibly surprising. Not to mention that Norwegians visit online casinos four times more often than Filipinos. But perhaps the truth lies in the fact that Filipinos prefer physical casinos? Just a guess; I don't know for sure, as I'm far from these beautiful lands, so I can't know for sure.
As for Norway, apparently they're bored sitting in the snow and are trying to entertain themselves this way. I know they're actually quite fond of computer games there, as I've supported some Norwegian Counter-Strike teams.

A very strange looking statistics. First thing that I have noticed it was stated "Internet users aged 16+". Since when gambling is from 16+ ? Is this a visualization of illegal gambling market? That makes me doubt that statistics is correct and true. Second thing that made me doubt in data are true is how they managed to category gamblers by country. VPN users spoil all the true data. Third reason, knowing how huge gambling market is in US, it is hard to believe they are so low in rating (and for example Greece be so high, as Greece population is +30 times less than in US).

it's disheartening to see that the top 1 country in gambling is a country where the economy is bad and unemployment is high, so I can already see how this will affect the people and I don't know if the government sees that or not because if they do they should have acted to regulate gambling more effectively. At that rate, banning gambling is probably the best solution, because it seems gambling addiction is already that serious.

This documentary will help us see how is gambling there.

Wow, I am surprised to see my country not on the chart. I see most people around me gambling online. Even five years ago, gambling was not that prevalent in my area, but recently online gambling has become so prevalent that if you check the phone of anyone, young or old, you will see that most people have gambling apps installed on their phones. Although gambling has been banned in my country recently and is now punishable by law, I don't think the amount of gambling has decreased at all, rather more people are gambling now than before. Those who didn't know anything about gambling before, after it was banned by law, are now gambling out of curiosity.
However, I was a little surprised to see South Africa on the chart, but I thought the United States would be at the top of the list. I used to live in New Zealand, so the number of gamblers may be very low, but we can see New Zealand at the top of the chart.

I would have questioned the stats but the information came from a legitimate source. However I’m not too surprised that my country is a bit busy with online casino, onsite betting companies are slowly losing their grip on customers especially when comfort is the headline of discussions. I can’t even remember when last I gambled in an onsite betting hall, I’m talking about a year plus without that experience.
Honestly I’m a bit surprised to see South Africa at the top of the list, I though countries with very poor economies would be at the leading position but then we see nations like Norway, Greece, United Kingdom…
So my question is, what drives people in a particular country to make this much gambling effort?

I was also very surprised to see Norway ranking so high, I couldn't imagine that. This statistics is very interesting because poor countries and rich countries are very near each other. I was expecting statistics to be like, poor countries in top 5 or something like that and then rich countries here and there.

By the way, OP, are you sure that this statistics is right? I still find it hard to believe that gambling is that popular in Norway. I know that lotteries are very popular in Norway but I have never heard that online casinos were popular there. I wonder about, does this statistics also include online lottery websites?
It's hard to believe Norway is at the top of the list as a user of online casino web or app version, do not know also whether this data is indeed credibility? This is worth questioning, but for the United States there is indeed a decrease in the volume of bets and you can see other data even though this was only published a few months ago.
