Competition will always spark excitement, especially when there’s a point to prove by the players. But then again, there’s indeed a thin line between enjoying the fun and entertainment that comes with gambling and allowing one’s desire to win to cloud and influence their judgement and thus control their rational thinking and decision making. Players can still enjoy the game and maintain the excitement without putting so much money or personal pride on the line. So the real challenge now is getting to know competition is actually adding to the fun and also when it is beginning to take more than it is giving.

I see local betting as the best form of gambling because it's more exciting and less addictive, like casino gambling that may wreck you if you cannot control yourself while at it. Usually here in the Philippines, it's always basketball if it's about sports and of course it will have some type of betting with just race to 8 or 12 score. Conditions like this can still happen even now for small tournaments and my place is also always like this even though for betting this is a little tightened because gambling rules are illegal in our country.

This has been a sport experience for most people especially in Africa and I believe it is also happening in other part of the world. It is always for the passion, and youths come together to plan everything just to have fun, the price is there for the winning team, it is not something that worth a fortune, but we all appreciate it and have fun especially during holidays when school closes. Mine was a football game, we love it even now, we played it for passion and now we keep watching it for passion, and I can see that the street is still there with that same habit, it is not something to easily forget because that’s the background of so many professional footballers today and they can all testify to that.

This is still held until tomorrow, we do have village league every christmas, every community is represented and they have to bring a certain amount to participate, prizes are spiced up from funding from known wealthy people who like football. It is always first, second and third positions that are rewarded. The christmas celebration is not complete without the tournaments.

Side bets are also placed by supporters, it's really a good mixure of sports and gambling and unites the communities that fall under the village together.

What you just said happened in my village but in my village we play family competition and it takes place every August we don't use to source for money to reward the teams that will finish first, second, and third the person that set the family competition cover the expenses for the competition what the family that registered for the competition will do is just to pay for the card they will receive. Gambling today have been seen only when one place bet with money, but it far beyond that, years back a man bet with his house, and at the end of the game he lost the game to his opponent. I have seen the case where someone used his wife to bet, kids, property even some go as far as using there life's as bets and cost them losing everything when it becomes obvious that it was not in there favour.

It may cause problems, but not lots of it as you assume. It doesn't cause problems if the bet is within a small circle of friends, the one that causes problems is street gambling with random people or strangers. I believe this also relies upon the individuals involved and the kind of mindset they have. In my personal opinion, not all friendly competitions will have to end in arguments just because of small money is in the middle of the competition.

For me, most times it's just about putting a bit of spice into the game and at least having something to laugh about after everything. But yeah to some extent I will agree that when people approach such friendly games with a serious attitude or when money becomes a factor in the friendship, then that alone can kill the fun. Having with your friends should always come first.

Indeed, there is much conflict between teams playing the game due to the fact that losing teams have to pay fees for the pitch's usage. The game itself turns out to be much less about fun and much more of competition for superiority where emotions may sometimes get too hot. In such a situation, it is hard for anyone of the two teams to take care of the rent when a tough game is played. Such amateur games can easily turn into major disputes between athletes upon their end. Desire to win becomes stronger than the idea of good sportsmanship in such conditions, with physical fights and verbal quarrels often being caused by excess ambitions and desire to not lose the game.

Because some have become adults, then they put forward high sportsmanship, meaning we do is pay 50/50 so that the game becomes calm there is no emotion anymore, when our youth often fight and become their enemies.

When it comes to games like this or any other games, the motivating factor is usually the money staked or the reward at the end because guys can’t just be interested if there is nothing to win at the end and sometimes I find myself not playing but being excited to see who takes the reward that exactly gets people gathering. In most cases it’s a totally different experience and games based on what the guys in the areas enjoy more. The most interesting part is the fact that people can bet outside the official/unofficial bets, like two different people can just place a bet on there own while watching the local game.

Money is one of the reasons people lose family, friends, and even spouses.
I am very aware of the power of money when it comes to changing people, that is why I have actively chosen not to bet with friends and family, I don't want to risk to lose my personal relationships because a disagreement during a betting session.

It is actually easier to bet with strangers than it is to do it with friends and family members.

Just my personal opinion on this matter... It is better safe than sorry.

Not cricket but basketball.

In the past, I used to play on the street and play basketball for money. The bet was not meant for gambling but only to make the game more serious instead of just playing around like kids. Then, the older ones would also place their bets against each other, and some of them would give a tip to the winners of the game.

This is some kind of a traditional thing when street basketball was allowed. But it's rare nowadays since most of the kids would rather spend their time on their phones.

These remind me of the days when kids would be becoming adolescents and the hunger for risk taking would be clear cut and fresh. They would start betting on anything they loved from cricket to tennis among themselves.

Often friends would gather in the person''s house which had the best TV and would start raising bets among each other while the match progressed.

These can still be organized among friends but I guess busy life and availability of online betting platforms mean that such events are no longer common.
