Oh man that's serious. How can a 8 year old girl get her menstrual so quick ? should be the sudden shock but still.
Isn't it normally around 12-13 years old ? Keeping that aside, what could have he done even if the door was locked and the robbers broke through the door?

First of all, this is sad news, a robbery is not something to be taken lightly, it can cost you your life in an instant. I’m grateful that your friend and his niece survived this incident.

I agree that this is a very specific case, and it doesn't mean that everyone who gambles will necessarily experience something similar. And at that point, it doesn't really matter whether the person is winning or losing, because the real problem is losing self-control.

The problem in this story isn't the gambling. The problem in this story is a person that doesn't have awareness of the particularly bad corner of the world that they live in. Regardless of whether they were gambling they might have just as easily forgotten to lock the door. Maybe they forgot before taking a bath, or before cooking, or before.. it doesn't really matter. A "group of men" can even find their way into most houses without having the use the door as well. While it does happen rarely, it's quite an unrealistic story that you've dreamed up with the idea to put the blame on gambling rather than the criminals. How about you work on making your country better, petitioning your politicians or police, or whoever can really make a change to a society that allows such rampant abuses of people to take place or alternative, accept that sometimes people just become the victim of crimes that they had very little ability to stop.

Externally, it seems that the main poster's friend's house is not in a safe place, which led to this incident. In my opinion, gambling should not be blamed. Because gamblers feel comfortable placing bets while keeping themselves hidden, which makes them feel safe. However, there is some negligence on his part, resulting in such an accident.
